Landing at Gatwick Airport? Let us take the stress off

Your driver is waiting with a name board the moment you come through customs into arrivals – not in a car park, not on the phone. We track the flight, so a late landing costs you nothing, and the first 60 minutes after the plane lands are free waiting time. Luggage trolleys, a child seat, a wheelchair-friendly car: tell us when you book and it is ready.

SIM card and money on the way. Still carrying your own currency? That is fine: every car takes cards and contactless, so you need no pounds in hand for the journey. If you want a UK SIM or some cash, say so and your driver will point you to the kiosks in arrivals (SIM cards: WHSmith and Sim Local in both terminals’ arrivals; currency: Travelex / Moneycorp desks landside in North and South) or, usually cheaper, stop at a supermarket, Post Office or bank on the route. Our local drivers know where the fair rates and the working cash machines are – trust them to sort it in minutes.

Disabled-friendly arrival. Special assistance: Book via airline at least 48h ahead; Assisted Travel receptions at drop-off points, help points at bus stops, entrances, Short Stay car parks, check-in, pre-security and departure lounge; Eagle Hoist with 24h notice. Step-free: Most gates via airbridges; Ambulift where stairs; lifts to station platforms; Premium car parks same-level access. Guide & assistance dogs: Only assistance dogs allowed in terminals; notify airline 48h; Service Animal Spend Area via the Assisted Travel team. Pets: Dogs flying must meet the PETS scheme. Airport accessibility page Our driver meets you at the assistance desk if you prefer, carries folding wheelchairs and walkers free, and assistance dogs always travel with you at no charge.

Eat and shop like a Londoner: fish & chips, Sunday roast, full English, afternoon tea, pies, pale ale, vegan & the best British brands

Our drivers get asked for these every day, so here is the shortlist we give in the car. Souvenirs & British brands

Tipping: 10–12.5%% service is often added in restaurants, never in pubs or chippies. Most places take cards; a few old caffs and Sam Smith’s pubs are cash-only. Vegan and gluten-free options are marked on almost every London menu – just ask. The airport shops sell the same tea tins and biscuits at 2–3 times the supermarket price, so buy souvenirs in town.

Taxi, Gatwick Express, Thameslink or app

The Gatwick Express takes about 30 minutes to Victoria and Thameslink runs to London Bridge and St Pancras; for one person with a cabin bag and a hotel near Victoria that is hard to beat. The train does not go to Kent, Essex, Surrey villages or the outer boroughs, and at 5am or 11pm the timetable thins out. A black cab from the rank is metered; apps can re-quote at busy arrival banks.

A pre-booked fixed fare is door to door, per car, and settled before you fly. For two or more people, a family with luggage, an early or late flight, or anywhere outside central London, it is usually the better value once the last leg is counted, and always the more predictable.

Reliable Gatwick transfers when the trains stop

Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink are hit by strikes, engineering works and late-night closures, often at the start of the school holidays. Your Rushxo fare is fixed when you book and does not change because of rail disruption, late landings or busy periods.

  • Door to door with all your cases, no platform changes with children and luggage
  • Flight tracked, so a delayed landing costs you nothing extra
  • Booked 24/7, including early-morning and late-night flights when trains are not running

Gatwick airport taxi prices: fixed fares from both terminals

A Gatwick airport taxi with Rushxo is a fixed fare per car, agreed when you book and unchanged by traffic, the hour or how busy the M23 is. The driver meets you inside the arrivals hall of the North or South Terminal with a name board, your flight is tracked, and 60 minutes of waiting after landing is included. The tables are our published saloon fares from Gatwick; the same price applies to the airport, and a return booked together is 10% off.

Every fare includes the driver, fuel, the forecourt drop-off charge, the Congestion Charge and ULEZ where they apply, and meet and greet. Executive cars, 6-seat MPVs and V Class minibuses are quoted the same way, per vehicle rather than per person.

North or South Terminal: where we meet you and the drop-off charge

Gatwick has two terminals about a mile apart, linked by a free shuttle that takes two to three minutes. British Airways, TUI, Emirates and part of the easyJet schedule use the North Terminal; most easyJet, Ryanair and Vueling flights use the South Terminal. Airlines occasionally switch, so it is on your booking and we confirm it with you the day before. Each terminal has its own arrivals hall, and that is where your driver waits.

Drop-off at both terminals is a barrierless forecourt charge of £10 for up to ten minutes, then £1 a minute to a 30-minute maximum (September 2026; the airport publishes changes on its own site). We include it in your fare. For pickups the driver uses the short-stay car park beside the terminal, walks over and waits inside arrivals, so nobody is standing on the forecourt with cases.

Heathrow to Gatwick taxi: the airport-to-airport transfer

Heathrow to Gatwick is the transfer we are asked about most, because there is no direct train and the coach takes a busy motorway at its own pace. By car it is about 45 miles around the M25, 60 to 90 minutes in normal traffic, and we run it as a fixed fare from £91 for a saloon: the driver meets you inside arrivals at Heathrow, loads the cases and drops you at the right Gatwick terminal door with the drop-off charge paid. The reverse direction is the same price. For a connection we ask for both flight numbers, track the inbound, and advise a pickup that leaves a sensible margin for the second check-in. See the Heathrow to Gatwick taxi page for the full route notes.

Gatwick’s second runway: what changes for transfers and when

Gatwick’s Northern Runway Project won its final court approval on 4 August 2026, ending the legal challenges to the £2.2 billion plan to move the existing standby runway 12 metres north so both can be used routinely. Dual-runway flying is expected by 2030, adding up to 100,000 flights a year, and it comes with the surface-access commitments the airport signed up to: a rebuilt South Terminal roundabout and Longbridge roundabout on the A23, and a target for more passengers to arrive by rail. For anyone booking a transfer the practical points are these. Between now and 2030 the works sit on the north side of the airfield and on the A23 approaches, so allow for lane restrictions around the South Terminal on the way in. From 2030 the airport handles more early and late flights, which is when the Gatwick Express and Thameslink are thinnest and a pre-booked car earns its keep. And the drop-off charge, currently £10 for 10 minutes on the forecourts then £1 a minute, with two hours free in the long-stay car park and a shuttle to the terminals, is likely to rise as the airport funds the works; it is included in our fixed fare either way. Gatwick is one of four projects reshaping journeys to the airports over the next decade; the others, and what they mean for your route, are on new transport developments around London.

Gatwick drop-off charges: what you pay, how to pay, and the free option

Gatwick charges every private car that uses the terminal forecourts at both North and South Terminal, and the charge is camera-enforced with no barrier, so people who did not know it existed find out by letter. Here is how it works in September 2026, checked against the airport’s own parking pages; the figures change most years, so check there before you travel.

OptionCostTime allowed
Forecourt drop-off zone (either terminal)£10Up to 10 minutes; £1 a minute after that, 30-minute maximum stay, £30 daily cap
Long Stay car park, free drop-offFreeFirst 2 hours, then a shuttle bus: about 5 minutes from North Terminal Long Stay, 7 to 12 from South
Short Stay car park (the pick-up option)From about £5 for 30 minutes, £8 for an hour, more at peakA short walk under cover to arrivals at both terminals
Pre-booked Rushxo transferDrop-off charge included in the fixed fareDoor to terminal door

How to pay the £10 drop-off charge

There is no barrier and no machine on the forecourt. Cameras read the number plate in and out, and you pay afterwards, online through the airport’s post-pay portal or by automated phone on 0330 174 4503, by midnight the day after your visit. Miss that deadline and the airport’s parking partner issues a £100 Parking Charge Notice, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. Blue Badge holders are exempt but must register with the airport before travelling, and anyone who drops off regularly can open an AutoPay account so it settles automatically.

How to drop off at Gatwick for free

Follow the signs for Long Stay rather than the terminal. The first two hours there are free, and a shuttle bus runs to the terminals around the clock; allow 15 to 25 extra minutes for the bus at each end. For an early flight with luggage, most people decide the £10 is worth it.

Picking up at Gatwick

The forecourt is drop-off only. For a pick-up, use the Short Stay car park at the terminal your passenger arrives at, or wait in Long Stay for free until the flight lands and then move. A pre-booked driver removes the calculation: we track the flight, wait in the car park, and meet your passenger in arrivals with a name board; the parking is in the fare.

Meet and greet, flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting

Give us the flight number and we monitor it from departure. Land early and the driver is already there; land late and the pickup moves with the flight at no cost. From touchdown you have 60 minutes of free waiting; if passport control or the baggage hall overruns, the driver waits and the fare does not change. You receive the driver’s name, photo and registration the day before and their direct mobile on the day, and our UK dispatch desk answers 020 8888 9988 24 hours a day. Our meet and greet page explains the process step by step.

Gatwick Airport transfers: questions

How much does a taxi cost from Gatwick Airport to central London?

Our published saloon fares from Gatwick to central London start from £103 from Victoria, are about £106 for the West End and the City, and run to about £115 for Canary Wharf, per car for up to four passengers, including the forecourt charge and 60 minutes of waiting after landing. The tables above show each destination, and the same price applies in the other direction.

How much is a taxi from Heathrow to Gatwick?

From £91 for a saloon, fixed at booking, about 45 miles and 60 to 90 minutes via the M25, with the driver meeting you inside arrivals at Heathrow and the Gatwick drop-off charge included. The same fare applies from Gatwick to Heathrow.

Do I have to pay a drop-off charge at Gatwick?

Not with us. Gatwick charges £10 for up to ten minutes on the terminal forecourts (September 2026); we include it in the fixed fare. Pickups use the short-stay car park and the driver meets you inside arrivals.

Which terminal do I need, North or South?

Your airline decides. British Airways, TUI and Emirates mostly use the North Terminal; most easyJet, Ryanair and Vueling flights use the South Terminal. It is on your booking, airlines do move, and we confirm the terminal with you the day before.

Is a taxi cheaper than the Gatwick Express?

For one person travelling light to Victoria, the train usually is. For two or more, anyone with luggage, an early or late flight, or a destination beyond central London, a fixed fare per car is usually cheaper once the onward leg is counted, and it is door to door.

How do I book a Gatwick airport taxi in advance?

Online for an instant fixed quote, on WhatsApp at +44 7466 237870, or by phone on 020 8888 9988. Pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or a 30% deposit with the balance 24 hours before travel. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We track the flight and move the pickup automatically. Free waiting runs for 60 minutes from the actual landing time, and if the terminal is slow the driver waits without a change to the fare.

How many passengers and bags fit in a Gatwick taxi?

A saloon carries up to four passengers with two large cases and hand luggage; an MPV carries five or six with up to six cases; an V Class minibus carries seven or eight with up to eight cases. Tell us the numbers at booking and the right vehicle is allocated.

Do you cover Brighton, Crawley and Sussex from Gatwick?

Yes. Brighton is about 26 miles down the A23, roughly 30 to 45 minutes, and Crawley, Horley, Worthing, Eastbourne and Guildford are all fixed fares in the tables above.

Are you available for early and late flights at Gatwick?

Yes. Dispatch runs 24 hours a day, every day, and the fare is the same at any hour, with no night surcharge.

Gatwick: questions first-time visitors ask

What is the best way to get from Gatwick to central London?

Gatwick Express trains leave the South Terminal twice an hour and reach London Victoria in about 30 minutes. That works well if you are travelling light and staying near Victoria. With suitcases, children or a hotel away from the station, a pre-booked Rushxo car takes you door to door from £103 fixed.

Should I pre-book a Gatwick taxi or use the taxi rank?

A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the fare depends on traffic and the queue depends on how many flights have just landed. A pre-booked Rushxo fare is fixed before you fly; your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board and we track your flight, so a delay does not change the booking or the price.

How far in advance should I book a Gatwick transfer?

Book as soon as your flight times are confirmed so the right vehicle is reserved, especially if you need an MPV, an V Class or a very early pickup. Pickups run 24/7.

Can I book a Gatwick transfer for a family of four with two young children?

Yes. For four people with luggage an MPV is the comfortable choice. Child seats are available: add each child's age when you book. Under UK rules, if a suitable child seat is not available in a licensed taxi or private hire car, children under 3 may travel in the rear without one and children aged 3 or over must wear an adult seat belt in the rear, so asking for seats when you book is the safer choice.

How much is a taxi from Gatwick to central London?

Rushxo fixed fares from Gatwick to central London start from £103 for a saloon, about 28 miles. See Gatwick to central London taxi prices for every vehicle size.
