Fingerprints and a photo instead of passport stamps — what the Entry/Exit System means for your Eurostar trip, in plain English.

Travelling by car? Rushxo quotes one fixed price before you book — no meter, no surge, no night premium. The fare you see is the fare you pay.

The Entry/Exit System (EES) is the EU's digital border, now in operation across the Schengen area: instead of a wet-ink stamp, non-EU travellers — including UK passport holders — have their fingerprints and a photo registered at the border, and each crossing is logged electronically.

What it means on Eurostar

Because French and Belgian border controls operate inside St Pancras, your EES registration happens before you board, not on arrival. First-time registration takes a few minutes at the kiosks or booth; repeat trips are quicker because your biometrics are already on file. The practical takeaway: the 60–90 minute arrival buffer is not optional any more, especially at peak times.

What you don't need to do

There's nothing to apply for, no fee, and no paperwork in advance — EES happens entirely at the border. Don't confuse it with ETIAS, the separate online authorisation that is not yet live and now expected in 2027.

Getting to St Pancras

Every Eurostar journey starts with reaching the station on time. Rushxo runs fixed-fare private hire across London and the UK, 24/7 — the quote is the fare, with no surge for early starts or late arrivals. Book a St Pancras transfer, WhatsApp us, or call 020 8888 9988.

Quick answers

Do I need to register for EES before travelling?

No. EES registration happens at the border itself — on Eurostar, at St Pancras before boarding. There is no advance application and no fee.

Does EES apply to UK passport holders?

Yes. UK citizens are non-EU travellers, so fingerprints and a photo are registered at the EU border in place of passport stamps.

Is EES the same as ETIAS?

No. EES is the biometric border check, live now. ETIAS is a separate online travel authorisation that is not yet in operation and is expected in 2027.
