Rushxo is a TfL-licensed private hire service covering every Central London postcode, 24 hours a day. You get your fare before you book, and that's what you pay: no meter, no surge pricing and nothing extra at the kerb. Choose a saloon, executive car, MPV or V Class minibus for journeys across the City, the West End, Westminster and the South Bank, all part of our London taxi service.

Fixed-fare airport transfers, quoted before you travel: Heathrow airport transfer, Gatwick airport transfer, Stansted airport transfer, Luton airport transfer and London City airport transfer. Business accounts with monthly invoicing are on our corporate travel page.

Pre-Booked Taxi in London at a Fixed Fare, with Zero Surge Pricing

A pre-booked fixed-fare minicab costs the same at 5am on a Tuesday as it does at 10:40pm on a Saturday when the theatres empty. Ride-hailing apps reprice every few minutes as demand changes, and a meter keeps running while you sit in traffic on the Strand. A Rushxo fare is set when you book, using real Central London traffic conditions rather than map estimates, and it doesn't change after that.

  • Price locked at booking: the quote you confirm is the amount you pay
  • Congestion Charge included: every fare is all-in
  • No surge: peak hours, bad weather, strikes and event nights don't change the fare
  • Driver details sent before pickup: name, car and registration
  • Business accounts: monthly invoicing on our corporate travel page

Every Central London Postcode, 24/7

Central London covers the City, the West End, Westminster and Whitehall, Holborn, Bloomsbury and the South Bank. These are the streets where a running meter costs the most. A fixed fare means time spent waiting at junctions doesn't cost you anything.

  • Every postcode from EC1–EC4 and WC1–WC2 to W1, SW1 and SE1
  • Saloon, executive, MPV and V Class minibus
  • Live traffic routing on every job

How a Central London pickup actually works

Booking a car into the middle of town is not the same as booking one to a suburban driveway, and it helps to know why. Large stretches of the centre sit on red routes and loading-restricted streets where a car physically cannot sit and wait at the door. What a good operator does instead — and what we do — is agree a precise pickup point with you at booking: the side street around the corner from a pedestrianised block, the hotel's designated set-down bay, the office building's actual vehicle entrance rather than its postal address.

That last one matters more than people expect. Plenty of Central London buildings have a front door on one street and a vehicle entrance on another; put the postal address into an app and the car arrives somewhere you can see but not reach with a suitcase. When you book with us we confirm the exact kerb, not just the postcode, and your driver messages you on approach so you walk out as the car pulls in — nobody circles the block, nobody stands in the rain.

  • Exact kerbside pickup point agreed at booking, not guessed on the day
  • Driver messages you on approach — step out as the car arrives
  • Hotel bays, office vehicle entrances and stage doors all handled routinely

The City and the West End are two different jobs

On a map, EC2 and W1 sit twenty minutes apart. As taxi work, they might as well be different cities. The Square Mile runs on a weekday clock: the earliest airport pickups of our whole week come out of City apartments and hotels between half past four and six in the morning, and by Saturday afternoon the same streets are so quiet you can hear your own footsteps on Threadneedle Street. Book a weekend pickup in EC3 and the run out of the zone is often the fastest of the entire journey.

The West End is the opposite animal. W1 and WC2 barely have an off-peak: retail crowds through the day, restaurant trade into the evening, theatre traffic at night, and delivery vehicles filling the kerbs in between. A fixed fare earns its keep here precisely because the traffic is unpredictable — whatever Regent Street decides to do on the day, your price was settled when you booked, not negotiated with a meter in a queue.

We plan the two differently as well. City pickups get routed east and south towards the river early; West End pickups avoid the shopping spine altogether where a parallel street will do. Neither of those decisions costs you anything — the fare was fixed before the wheels turned.

Leaving Central London for a flight: honest timing notes

Every transfer company quotes a journey time; almost none tell you the part that actually decides whether you relax or sweat, which is when the middle of town lets you out. From W1 or WC2, the first fifteen minutes are the journey. Once you're clear of the zone and onto the arterial roads, Heathrow, Gatwick and the rest behave predictably — it's the escape from the centre that varies.

Our working rules, learned the slow way: before seven in the morning, Central London releases you almost instantly, which is why dawn flights from a central hotel are far less stressful than they look on paper. Mid-morning to early afternoon is steady and honest. The window to respect is late afternoon into early evening on a weekday, when the centre, the ring roads and the motorways are all busy at once — for a departure in that window we'll quote you a pickup time with real slack in it and explain why, rather than promise a miracle. And late evening flips again: after the theatres empty, the roads out of town clear quickly, and a 22:30 pickup often runs as smoothly as a 5am one.

None of this changes your fare. It only changes the pickup time we recommend — and we'd rather you spend twenty spare minutes at the gate than one anxious minute on the Hammersmith flyover.

Taxi or train with luggage? The answer depends on your hands

We'll say something few taxi firms will: for one person with a small cabin bag, the train from central stations to Heathrow or Gatwick is genuinely good, and we won't pretend otherwise. The honest dividing line is luggage and party size. The calculation changes completely the moment you have a full-size case per person, a pushchair, a wheelchair user, more than two travellers, or a departure before the first trains run.

What the rail option never shows on the ticket price is the labour: the walk to the platform with cases, the gap between train and platform, the stairs or the queue for the one working lift, the change with everything you own hanging off your shoulders. A door-to-door car converts all of that into sitting down. For two or more people sharing, the fare per head usually lands close to the train tickets anyway — and for a family of four with holiday luggage, the car frequently wins on pure arithmetic before you even count the effort.

  • Travelling alone, one small bag, sociable hour → the train is a fair choice, honestly
  • Full cases, families, early flights, mobility needs → door-to-door wins clearly
  • Two or more sharing → compare the fare per head, not the headline figure

Theatre nights and the ten-forty rush

Most West End curtains fall within the same half hour, and for about forty minutes afterwards the streets around Shaftesbury Avenue and Covent Garden fill with several thousand people all wanting a way home at once. App prices notice; surge pricing exists for exactly this moment. A pre-booked fixed fare doesn't notice — the price was set that afternoon when the streets were empty.

The trick to a painless theatre pickup is the one nobody tells you: don't meet the car at the theatre doors. Give us the show and the venue when you book, and we'll agree a pickup point one street back from the crush — a two-minute walk that saves fifteen minutes of the car inching through the crowd to reach you. Your driver tracks the time, allows for the curtain running late, and messages you as you're collecting your coats.

From the driver's seat: crossing the middle of town

A few things our drivers know that a satnav discovers too late. East–west across the centre is nearly always harder than north–south, so a route that looks longer on the map but drops to the river early often arrives first. The famous shopping streets are for shopping, not driving — a parallel street one block over does the same work at three times the speed. And roadworks in the centre move weekly; a route that was clever last month may be closed this month, which is why our drivers run live traffic on every job rather than trusting habit.

You don't need to know any of this to travel with us. It's simply the answer to a question we're asked constantly — "why did the driver go that way?" — and the reason the fixed fare can stay fixed: we price the route knowing what the centre of London actually does, not what the map says it should do.

Oxford Street Goes Traffic-Free from 26 October 2026: Where to Get Picked Up

From 26 October 2026, the 0.9 km stretch of Oxford Street between Orchard Street (by Selfridges) and Great Portland Street (past Oxford Circus) closes to all traffic, including private hire, black cabs and buses. The closure is a live trial ahead of a permanent redesign. Fares don't change, but pickup points do. Book your pickup on the nearest open cross-street:

  • Selfridges / Marble Arch end: Orchard Street, Portman Street, Duke Street
  • Bond Street: Davies Street, Stratford Place, Vere Street, New Bond Street
  • John Lewis / Oxford Circus: Cavendish Square, Holles Street, Henrietta Place, Great Portland Street

The Marble Arch and Tottenham Court Road ends stay open, so pickups at the door continue there. Booking tip: enter the side street as your pickup address (e.g. Stratford Place, W1C) so your quote, the driver's satnav and your meeting point all match.

Central London Taxi FAQs

How much is a taxi in Central London?
Local fixed fares start from about £75, and Heathrow transfers start from £85 in a saloon. Your exact price depends on the pickup, drop-off and vehicle, and it's confirmed before you book.
Is the price fixed, or can it surge?
It's fixed. The fare you confirm is the fare you pay, with no meter, no surge pricing and no hidden extras.
Is the Congestion Charge included?
Yes. Every fare is all-in and agreed before you travel.
Do you cover the City and the West End?
Yes. We cover every central postcode (EC1–EC4, WC1–WC2, W1, SW1 and SE1), 24/7.
My street is a red route or pedestrianised. Can you still pick me up?
Yes. We agree an exact legal pickup point when you book, usually a nearby side street or bay, and your driver messages you on approach.
Can a taxi still drop me on Oxford Street?
Not between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street from 26 October 2026. Book the nearest open cross-street instead, such as Duke Street, Davies Street, Cavendish Square or Great Portland Street. The fare is unchanged.
Can the driver wait while I'm at dinner or a show?
For theatre and restaurant pickups, we time the collection to the finish rather than leaving the car idling on restricted streets. Give us the venue and finish time, and we'll build the wait into a fixed fare.
Is a car worth it if the train also goes to the airport?
If you're travelling alone with a small bag, the train is fine. Full luggage, children, mobility needs, early flights or two or more people sharing usually make door-to-door the better choice.
How do I book a pre-booked taxi in London?
Get a quote online, on WhatsApp or by phone, 24/7. Confirm your pickup time and address, and your driver's details arrive before the journey. Business accounts can book on monthly invoice.
Is Rushxo a licensed operator?
Yes. Rushxo journeys are operated by Get London Transfer Ltd, licensed by Transport for London (Operator Licence No. 11588). Rushxo Ltd is registered at Companies House (No. 16464640). Drivers are DBS-checked and public liability cover is up to £10 million.
