Vegan and gluten-free options are marked on almost every London menu – just ask. The airport shops sell the same tea tins and biscuits at 2–3 times the supermarket price, so buy souvenirs in town.

Arrivals essentials for London: money exchange, luggage storage & cloakrooms, tours, children, pets and step-free access (prices checked October 2026)

Money and currency exchange

Pay by card almost everywhere (contactless, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted on buses, the Tube and in shops); choose to be charged in GBP, never in your home currency. Airport bureaux and the hotel desk are the worst rates (typically 8–12% worse than mid-market). If you need cash, the best walk-in rates in central London are at Thomas Exchange Global (Strand WC2 and Cannon Street EC4) and the independent bureaux around London; Post Office counters are fair and everywhere; fee-free ATMs are marked “Free cash withdrawals” (Link network). A Wise or Revolut card gives near mid-market rates. Tipping: round up or 10% in restaurants if service is not already added (12.5% usually is).

Luggage storage and cloakrooms

Hotel cloakrooms hold bags free on the day of arrival and departure. Elsewhere: Stasher and Radical Storage use shops and hotels near London from about £5–£6 per bag per day; station left luggage (Excess Baggage at King’s Cross, Paddington, Victoria, Liverpool Street, Waterloo) is £7.50 for 3 hours and £12.50 per 24 hours per item; big museums (British Museum, V&A, Tate) have free or £1–£5 cloakrooms but refuse large cases. Our drivers can also keep the bags in the car on a stop-and-wait booking. Full list: luggage storage in London.

Tours, tickets and recommendations

Hop-on hop-off buses (Tootbus, Big Bus) are £39–£49 per adult for 24 hours; Uber Boat by Thames Clippers £9–£13 per hop or £24.60 for a river roamer; free walking tours (tip-based, £10–£15) start at Covent Garden and Westminster daily; the London Pass is worth it only from three big attractions a day. Headline prices: Tower of London £37, Westminster Abbey £31, St Paul’s £27, London Eye from £29, Tower Bridge £18, Kew Gardens £25, Hampton Court £29, Windsor Castle £32, Warner Bros. Studio Tour £58.50 (adult). Book online and in advance; our drivers run half-day and full-day hires for Windsor, Stonehenge, Oxford and the Cotswolds at a fixed price (visitor guides by country and traveller type, food & shopping guide with prices).

Children, pets and step-free travel

Children: under-11s travel free on the Tube and buses with an adult, child seats are fitted on request at no charge, and the big museums are free. Pets: dogs are welcome in our cars when you tell us at booking (a blanket or carrier, please); assistance dogs always travel free; dogs ride the Tube and buses free. Step-free and reduced mobility: wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV) on request, drivers trained to assist, and the “Getting around” section on this page lists step-free stations near London; Blue Badge rules apply in London bays, and our airport meet and greet includes assistance from the gate on request. See London for wheelchair users and London for families.
