It happens often, and it means two drop points and one collection. We plan it as one job so nobody ends up walking the length of the course to find the vehicle.
Where we actually wait
Off the Downs on the approach roads rather than on them. The common empties slowly and a vehicle stuck in the middle of it is a vehicle going nowhere for an hour.

The Derby is the headline, but the course races through the summer and the quieter fixtures are far easier and cheaper to attend.

Surrey from Kent, which is easier than it sounds
Epsom is one of the closer courses to our patch, reachable on the M25 anticlockwise without going near central London. Derby Day is the exception, when the last few miles onto the Downs slow considerably.

Derby Day in practice
The Downs empty very slowly
A hundred thousand people spread across open common land, much of it without formal roads, is a genuinely difficult thing to clear. Vehicles parked on the Hill can sit for a long time after the last race, and the approach roads back down towards Epsom and Tattenham Corner move in fits. Our answer is to wait off the common on a road that is actually flowing, accept a short walk, and be moving while the field is still full of cars going nowhere.
Picnics, gazebos and the boot space question
The Hill crowd travels heavy. Chairs, tables, cool boxes, gazebos and enough food for the afternoon all have to come with you, and they do not fit in the back of a saloon alongside six people. This is a minibus job for most groups, and it is worth telling us what you are bringing rather than just how many of you there are, so the vehicle matches the load.
Two enclosures, one group
Mixed parties are common: some with grandstand badges, some on the Hill, all wanting to travel together. That is straightforward if it is planned, and a nuisance if it is not, because the two sides are a long way apart on foot. We agree the drop points and a single collection point in advance so nobody spends the end of the day walking around a racecourse in the dark.
Quiet fixtures are the secret
If the occasion matters less than the racing, Epsom's summer evening meetings are excellent and almost nobody thinks to book transport for them. Short journey, small crowd, easy exit and a much lower fare than Derby Day. We would rather tell you that than sell you the expensive version by default.

What is the difference between the grandstand and the Hill?
The grandstand enclosures are ticketed, with seating, hospitality and a dress code. The Hill is open common land on the other side of the course, free to access, and it draws an enormous picnic crowd with a funfair and open-top buses. They are different entrances, different approach roads and different days out, so tell us which you are attending.
Can you drop us on the Hill?
We set down as close as the traffic management allows on Derby Day, which varies with how the common is being managed that year. For a picnic party with a lot of kit, that closeness matters, and we confirm the arrangement before your date rather than guessing.
Where will you collect us afterwards?
Off the common, on an approach road that is actually moving. Vehicles waiting on the Downs after the last race can sit for a long time, so a short walk buys a considerably shorter wait. The exact point goes to your phone before the final race.
How long does it take from Kent?
Between an hour and two hours depending on where you start, using the M25 anticlockwise rather than going through London. Derby Day adds significantly to the final few miles. The table above gives the detail by area.
Can you carry picnic kit and a gazebo?
Yes, and you should tell us about it when you book. Chairs, tables, cool boxes and gazebos change which vehicle we send. Most Hill parties end up in a minibus rather than an V Class for exactly this reason.
Our group is split between the two sides. Is that a problem?
Not if we know in advance. We drop at two points and set a single collection spot that works for both, which saves somebody a long walk around the course at the end of the day.
Do you cover the Oaks and the evening meetings?
Yes, and the quieter fixtures are considerably cheaper and easier. Summer evening racing at Epsom is one of the better-value days out in the South East and hardly anyone books transport for it.
Is there parking at Epsom?
There is, including on the Downs themselves, and on a quiet day it is fine. On Derby Day the exit is the problem rather than the entry, and it is slow enough that a lot of people who have done it once do not repeat it.
Can we drink at the races?
That is largely the point, and it is the main reason people book us. One fixed fare split across the group is usually cheaper than the parking and the fuel once you account for somebody having to abstain all afternoon.
Is the fare fixed?
