Luton Airport Taxi – Fixed Price from £85, Book Online 24/7
Landing at Luton Airport? Let us take the stress off
Your driver is waiting with a name board the moment you come through customs into arrivals – not in a car park, not on the phone. We track the flight, so a late landing costs you nothing, and the first 60 minutes after the plane lands are free waiting time. Luggage trolleys, a child seat, a wheelchair-friendly car: tell us when you book and it is ready.
SIM card and money on the way. Still carrying your own currency? That is fine: every car takes cards and contactless, so you need no pounds in hand for the journey. If you want a UK SIM or some cash, say so and your driver will point you to the kiosks in arrivals (SIM cards: WHSmith in arrivals; currency: ICE desk in the terminal) or, usually cheaper, stop at a supermarket, Post Office or bank on the route. Our local drivers know where the fair rates and the working cash machines are – trust them to sort it in minutes.
Disabled-friendly arrival. Special assistance: Tell your airline when booking or at least 48h before departure; the Assisted Travel team meets you; help points including lower level near Gates 20-28. Step-free: Lifts before the departure lounge; DART step-free. Guide & assistance dogs: Register your assistance dog via the airport page; relief area outside the terminal front near bus stop T; airside via Assisted Travel staff. Airport accessibility page Our driver meets you at the assistance desk if you prefer, carries folding wheelchairs and walkers free, and assistance dogs always travel with you at no charge.

Tipping: 10–12.5%% service is often added in restaurants, never in pubs or chippies. Most places take cards; a few old caffs and Sam Smith’s pubs are cash-only. Vegan and gluten-free options are marked on almost every London menu – just ask. The airport shops sell the same tea tins and biscuits at 2–3 times the supermarket price, so buy souvenirs in town.

Luton airport taxi prices: fixed fares from the terminal
A Luton airport taxi with Rushxo is a fixed fare per car, agreed when you book and unchanged by traffic, the hour or the M1. The driver meets you inside the single arrivals hall with a name board, your flight is tracked, and 60 minutes of waiting after landing is included. The tables are our published saloon fares from Luton; the same price applies to the airport, and a return booked together is 10% off.

Every fare includes the driver, fuel, the drop-off charge, the Congestion Charge and ULEZ where they apply, and meet and greet. Executive cars, 6-seat MPVs and V Class minibuses are quoted the same way, per vehicle rather than per person.

One terminal, no DART needed: pickups and the £7 drop-off charge
London Luton has one compact terminal used by every airline, with easyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair and TUI making up most of the schedule. It sits about 35 miles north of central London off junction 10 of the M1, 55 to 85 minutes by road, and it is the closest airport to St Albans, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes and Bedford, all of which are short fixed fares for us.
Drop-off outside the terminal is a barrierless charge of £7 for up to ten minutes, then £1 a minute to a 30-minute maximum (September 2026; check london-luton.co.uk for changes). We include it in your fare. For pickups the driver uses the short-stay car park and meets you inside arrivals. The Luton DART, the people-mover between the terminal and Luton Airport Parkway station, is only for rail passengers: if we are driving you, you never need it.
| Luton at a glance | Detail |
|---|---|
| Terminals | One terminal, one arrivals hall |
| Drop-off charge | £7 for 10 minutes, then £1 per minute; included in our fare |
| Pickup point | Short-stay car park; driver meets you inside arrivals |
| Distance to central London | About 35 miles, 55 to 85 minutes via the M1 |
| Distance to St Albans | About 10 miles, 15 to 25 minutes |
| Rail alternative | Luton DART to Luton Airport Parkway, then Thameslink or East Midlands Railway to St Pancras |
Luton Airport expansion and the Universal Studios effect
The Transport Secretary approved Luton’s expansion on 4 April 2025, overruling the Planning Inspectorate: a second terminal, new taxiways and capacity for 32 million passengers a year by 2043, up from 18 million now. The airport will grow in phases through the early 2030s, which means a decade of works on the terminal approaches and the Airport Way spur; the DART shuttle from Luton Airport Parkway stays the rail link. Two things make this airport unusual for the next few years. First, it is the closest airport to the Universal United Kingdom Resort being built at Kempston Hardwick near Bedford, about 20 miles and 30 to 40 minutes away, opening in 2031 with 8.5 million visitors expected in its first year; Luton is the gateway for that traffic and our Luton to Bedford transfer is £69 for up to four people. Second, Luton’s drop-off zone charges £7 for 10 minutes then £1 a minute, with two hours free in the long-stay car park and a ten-minute bus to the terminal, and like Stansted it is camera-enforced. Both charges are included in our fixed fare. Our guide to getting to Universal Studios Bedford covers the site, the new East West Rail station and fares from each airport; the wider picture, including Gatwick’s second runway and the Lower Thames Crossing, is on new transport developments around London.
Luton drop-off charges: what you pay, how to pay, and the free option
Luton charges every private car that uses the terminal drop-off zone, and like Stansted and Gatwick it is camera-enforced with no barrier, so the first many people hear of it is an enforcement notice. Here is how it works in September 2026, checked against the airport’s own parking pages; check there before you travel, because the figures change most years.
| Option | Cost | Time allowed |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal drop-off zone | £7 | Up to 10 minutes; £1 a minute after that, 30-minute maximum stay |
| Long Stay car park, free drop-off | Free | First 2 hours, then a free shuttle bus about every 20 minutes, around 10 minutes to the terminal |
| Terminal Car Park 1, short stay (the pick-up option) | £15 for 30 minutes, £21.50 for an hour, £30.50 for up to 3 hours | Two minutes’ walk to arrivals |
| Pre-booked Rushxo transfer | Drop-off charge included in the fixed fare | Door to terminal door |
How to pay the £7 drop-off charge
There is no barrier and nothing to pay on the day. Cameras record the number plate on the way in and out, and you pay online afterwards through the airport’s portal by midnight the day after your visit. Miss the deadline and an enforcement notice goes to the registered keeper, currently £95 with the usual discount for early payment. Blue Badge holders should check the airport’s exemption rules before travelling.
How to drop off at Luton for free
Follow the signs for Long Stay instead of the terminal. The first two hours are free and the shuttle runs every 20 minutes or so; allow half an hour extra end to end, which on a 6am departure is usually the difference between the £7 and a missed bag drop.
Picking up at Luton
Terminal Car Park 1 is the closest and the most expensive; Long Stay is free for two hours, so wait there until the flight lands and then move. With a pre-booked driver the airport parking is in the fare and the driver meets your passenger in arrivals with a name board, which matters at Luton because the terminal forecourt is the busiest part of the airport at peak times.
Meet and greet, flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting
Give us the flight number and we monitor it from departure. Land early and the driver is already there; land late and the pickup moves with the flight at no cost. From touchdown you have 60 minutes of free waiting; if passport control or the baggage hall overruns, the driver waits and the fare does not change. You receive the driver’s name, photo and registration the day before and their direct mobile on the day, and our UK dispatch desk answers 020 8888 9988 24 hours a day. Our meet and greet page explains the process step by step.
Vehicles for Luton transfers
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Typical use |

| Executive | Up to 3 | 2 large cases | Business travel |
| MPV | 5 to 6 | Up to 6 cases | Families, holiday luggage |
| V Class minibus | 7 to 8 | Up to 8 cases | Groups, stag and hen parties, ski luggage |
| Wheelchair-accessible | Varies | Ramp or lift, chair stays occupied | Booked in advance at no extra charge for the vehicle type |

- On the day: the flight is tracked, the driver texts when in position, and a return booked together is 10% off.
Taxi, DART and train, Uber or coach from Luton
By rail you ride the DART to Luton Airport Parkway, then a Thameslink or East Midlands Railway train to St Pancras in about 25 to 40 minutes, and then whatever the onward leg looks like with cases. For one person with a cabin bag and a destination near the Thameslink line it is good value. It does not go to Kent, Essex or most of outer London, and the early easyJet bank leaves before the first trains are useful.
Uber does operate at Luton, from a designated pickup area, at a price that can move with demand. A pre-booked fixed fare is door to door, per car, settled before you fly, with the driver inside the terminal. For two or more people, a family with luggage, a 6am departure or a late arrival, or anywhere outside central London, it is usually the better value once the last leg is counted, and always the more predictable.
| Option | Price behaviour | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Rushxo fixed fare | Agreed at booking, includes the drop-off charge and 60 minutes of waiting | Groups, luggage, early and late flights, Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire and outer London |
| DART and Thameslink | Per person | One person to St Pancras or the Thameslink line, daytime |
| Coach | Per person, cheapest | Budget travel with time to spare |
| Uber | Dynamic; can re-quote | Off-peak, short distance, no deadline |
| Black cab | Metered | Short local runs |

Why book your Luton taxi with Rushxo
Rushxo journeys are operated by Get London Transfer Ltd, a TfL-licensed private hire operator (licence 11588), based in Dartford, Kent. Luton is the far side of London for most of our customers, which is exactly why they book it: Dartford, Bromley, Bexley, Gravesend and the Medway towns to Luton around the M25 and up the M1 at a fixed fare quoted before we leave, rather than a metered guess or a train with two changes. We cover every London postcode, Kent and Essex 24 hours a day, and the 4am pickup costs what the 4pm one costs.
Drivers hold TfL licences and enhanced DBS checks, vehicles are licensed and insured, and the company carries £10m public liability cover. Read what customers say, or see our guides to early-morning Luton flights and early arrivals into London.

Luton Airport transfers: questions
How much is a taxi from Luton Airport?
Our published saloon fares from Luton start from £85 for the nearby Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire towns, from £125 to the West End and about £170 for the City and Canary Wharf, per car for up to four passengers, including the drop-off charge and 60 minutes of waiting after landing. The tables above show each destination, and the same price applies in the other direction.
Is it easy to get a taxi at Luton Airport?
With a pre-booked car, yes: the driver is inside arrivals with a name board when you land. Without one you are choosing between the rank, an app pickup area and the DART to the station, at a time of day when all three can be busy.
Can I use Uber at Luton Airport?
Yes, from the airport’s designated pickup area, at a price that can change with demand. A Rushxo fare is fixed when you book, includes the drop-off charge and meet and greet, and does not move on the day.
Is the Luton DART cheaper than a taxi?
The DART plus a train to St Pancras is cheaper for one person with a cabin bag going somewhere near the Thameslink line. For two or more, anyone with luggage, an early or late flight, or a destination beyond central London, a fixed fare per car is usually cheaper once the onward leg is counted, and it is door to door.
Is there a charge for being picked up or dropped off at Luton Airport?
The forecourt drop-off charge is £7 for up to ten minutes, then £1 a minute (September 2026). We include it in the fixed fare. For pickups the driver uses the short-stay car park and meets you inside arrivals, so there is nothing to pay on the day.
Where do I meet my pre-booked driver at Luton?
Inside the single arrivals hall, at the meeting point named in your confirmation, holding a name board. The driver’s mobile number is in the same confirmation.
What happens if my flight is delayed or lands early?
We track the flight and move the pickup either way at no cost. Free waiting runs for 60 minutes from the actual landing time, and if the terminal is slow the driver waits without a change to the fare.
How far in advance should I book a Luton airport taxi?
The day before is enough for most journeys; 48 to 72 hours ahead is wise for early departures, bank holidays and Christmas. Same-day bookings are often possible by phone on 020 8888 9988.
Do you cover St Albans, Watford and Milton Keynes from Luton?
Yes. St Albans, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Dunstable, Hitchin and Northampton are all fixed fares in the table above, with the same price in the other direction.
Can I cancel or change a Luton booking?
Yes. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup, and changes to time or address are made by phone or WhatsApp at no cost. Pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay online, or a 30% deposit with the balance due 24 hours before travel.

Luton: questions first-time visitors ask
What is the best way to get from Luton to central London?
From Luton the DART shuttle takes about 4 minutes to Luton Airport Parkway, where Luton Airport Express trains reach St Pancras in roughly 22 to 32 minutes. That works well if you are travelling light and staying near St Pancras. With suitcases, children or a hotel away from the station, a pre-booked Rushxo car takes you door to door from £85 fixed.
Should I pre-book a Luton taxi or use the taxi rank?
A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the fare depends on traffic and the queue depends on how many flights have just landed. A pre-booked Rushxo fare is fixed before you fly; your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board and we track your flight, so a delay does not change the booking or the price.
Can I book a Luton transfer for a family of four with two young children?
Yes. For four people with luggage an MPV is the comfortable choice. Child seats are available: add each child's age when you book. Under UK rules, if a suitable child seat is not available in a licensed taxi or private hire car, children under 3 may travel in the rear without one and children aged 3 or over must wear an adult seat belt in the rear, so asking for seats when you book is the safer choice.
How much is a taxi from Luton to central London?
Rushxo fixed fares from Luton to central London start from £170 for a saloon, about 36 miles. See Luton to central London taxi prices for every vehicle size.
