Utilita Arena Birmingham: the day return that works
Every other major arena outside London is far enough from Kent that we tell people to stay over. Birmingham is the exception. At around a hundred and forty miles it is a comfortable evening out and back, and that makes it the most useful regional arena on our list.
From north Kent, roughly two and three quarter hours each way on the M25 and M40. Out at four, show at eight, home by two. Long, but entirely reasonable, which is not true of anywhere further north.
Why this one does not need an overnight
The maths is different here, and it changes the whole trip.

Birmingham has two arenas. Know which.
This catches people out constantly, and the two are nine miles apart.

Getting a Birmingham evening right
Leave earlier than you think and eat there
The arena sits on the canals in central Birmingham, surrounded by restaurants and bars in Brindleyplace and Gas Street. Leaving Kent at four rather than half five turns a rushed arrival into a proper evening, and it costs nothing extra on the transport. Given that you are travelling nearly three hours, arriving with time to eat is worth planning for.
Central location, sensible exit
Fifteen thousand people leaving a city-centre arena disperse into a city rather than onto a handful of approach roads. Compared with a campus arena or a stadium, the exit here is quick. We hold on a road a short walk from the venue and are usually moving within fifteen minutes.
Split across a group it is cheap for the distance
A coach or minibus from Kent to Birmingham and back divided between eight or sixteen people is a modest amount per head for a two-hundred-and-eighty-mile round trip with a show in the middle. It compares well with rail, particularly once you count getting to a London terminus at both ends.
The other Birmingham arena is not in Birmingham
bp pulse LIVE, formerly the Resorts World Arena, is on the NEC campus about nine miles from the city centre beside Birmingham International station. It is a completely different journey and a different departure from the M42. Check which venue is on your ticket before you plan anything.

Can we do Birmingham as a day return from Kent?
Yes, comfortably. Around a hundred and forty miles and two and three quarter hours each way. Leave at four, home around two. It is the only major regional arena where we would suggest that as the default.
Is this the same as bp pulse LIVE?
No. The Utilita Arena is in central Birmingham at B1 by the canals. bp pulse LIVE is on the NEC campus at B40, nine miles out beside Birmingham International. Different journeys entirely.
What time will we get home?
Between half one and half two in the morning for most of Kent, depending on where you start. The table above gives it by area.
Can we eat before the show?
Yes, and you should. Brindleyplace and Gas Street are a few minutes' walk with plenty of choice. An earlier departure costs nothing extra when it is built into the quote.
Where do you collect after the show?
A short walk from the venue on a road that is moving. City-centre arenas clear faster than campus ones, so we are usually away within fifteen minutes.
Is it cheaper than the train?
For a group, generally yes, once you count getting to a London terminus at both ends. For one person travelling light, rail is competitive.
Can you take a coach?
Yes, up to forty-nine seats, with more than one vehicle run as a single booking for larger parties.
Is the fare fixed?
Yes, agreed before travel and unaffected by traffic or a late finish.
