NEC transfers from Kent: 145 miles to a trade show
The NEC is the biggest exhibition site in the country and it is a long way from us. That distance is the whole planning problem, and the answer depends entirely on whether you are visiting for a day or exhibiting for a week.
Each way from north Kent, which is around three hours in normal traffic and more at either end of a working day. For a single day visit that is six hours in a vehicle, which is worth deciding on deliberately rather than by accident.
Day trip, overnight, or the full show run
At this distance, the shape of the trip matters more than the vehicle. Here is what each option actually involves.
Out and back in a day
Leave around half five in the morning, home mid-evening. Fine for a single visitor day at a show, and long for anyone doing it more than once.
Travel the evening before
Down the night before, a full day at the show, home afterwards. Considerably more civilised and the option most visitors choose once they have tried the alternative.
Build, show days, breakdown
The vehicle stays for the duration, running between hotel and halls daily. One booking, one invoice, no daily arrangement.
Train to Birmingham International
You take the train, we handle the local legs and the kit. Often the cheapest option for a small team, and the station sits right beside the site.
Getting there, honestly
The route is the M25 and the M40, or the M20 and M25 from further east. Times below are for a normal working day and assume no incident, which on the M40 is a fair assumption more often than on the M6.

What the NEC hosts
Twenty halls and a calendar that runs most of the year, covering everything from trade-only industry weeks to enormous consumer weekends. The two behave very differently.

Making 145 miles work
Be honest about the day trip
A single-day return to the NEC from Kent means roughly six hours in a vehicle around a day walking an exhibition floor. Plenty of people do it and it is perfectly manageable once. If you are going for two days, or you have a stand to run, the overnight option costs a hotel room and buys back an enormous amount of energy. We will tell you which we think fits rather than quoting whatever you first asked for.
Exhibitors should book the whole run
Build day, show days and breakdown as one arrangement is markedly cheaper and simpler than four separate bookings. The vehicle stays with you, the daily hotel-to-hall legs are covered, and the kit does not have to be repacked into a different boot every morning. One invoice at the end, with a VAT receipt.
The station option is genuinely good
Birmingham International sits directly beside the NEC with a covered link to the halls, and the train from London is quick. For a small team without much kit, taking the train and booking us only for the Kent-to-London leg and the local runs can work out cheaper than a full road trip. We would rather point that out than pretend the only option is the one that bills the most.
Consumer shows and what you buy there
Motor shows, caravan shows and craft fairs all end with people carrying more than they arrived with. If there is any chance of that, tell us when you book. A minibus with the rear seats configured for load is a different vehicle from one packed with eight passengers, and we would rather know in advance than reorganise in a car park in Solihull.

Distance, format and cost.
How far is the NEC from Kent?
About a hundred and forty-five miles from north Kent and up to a hundred and eighty from east Kent, which is roughly three to four hours each way. It is one of the longer regular runs we do and worth planning as a trip rather than a commute.
Is a day trip realistic?
Yes for a single visitor day, if you accept a half five departure and a mid-evening return. For two days or an exhibitor stand, an overnight is considerably better value in energy terms even accounting for the room.
Do you cover exhibitor build and breakdown?
Yes, and it is best booked as one arrangement covering build day, the show days and breakdown. The vehicle stays with you for the duration and you get a single invoice at the end.
Can you carry stand kit?
Yes. Tell us the volume rather than just the number of people, because a crew with flight cases and graphics needs a minibus rather than an estate. Getting that wrong on build day morning is a bad start to a week.
Would we be better off on the train?
Possibly, and we will say so. Birmingham International station is right beside the halls, so for a small team travelling light the rail option is often cheaper. Where we add most value is the Kent leg, the kit and the local runs during the show.
Can you take a club or society group?
Yes, up to forty-nine seats. Craft fairs, motor shows and collectors' events draw a lot of group bookings from Kent, and they travel far better together than in a convoy of cars.
What if we buy something large?
Tell us in advance if it is likely. Motor and caravan shows in particular send people home with more than they arrived with, and the vehicle needs configuring for it before we set off, not after.
Do you invoice on account?
Yes, with monthly billing and VAT receipts. For companies exhibiting at several NEC shows a year, an account removes the arrangement from every individual event.
Can you collect from several addresses across Kent?
Yes, and for a long trip it makes obvious sense. Multiple pick-ups on the way out are standard and save everyone driving to one meeting point before dawn.
Is the fare fixed?
Yes, agreed before travel. Motorway delays, an overrunning breakdown or a later finish than planned do not change what you pay.
