South Facing: the closest London festival to Kent

south facing festival transfers fixed-price taxi booking with Rushxo

The Crystal Palace Bowl sits in a park on top of a south London hill, which makes it the nearest festival site to most of our patch and gives it a walk that catches people out on the way in.

25 min

From Bromley, and under an hour from most of Kent. On distance alone this is the cheapest London festival we run, which for a site hosting names of this size is worth knowing.

A park on a hill

Four things about the Bowl

A small, well-run site with a couple of practical quirks worth planning around.

THE HILL

Crystal Palace is high up

The park sits on one of the highest points in south London, and the walk from most drop-off points is uphill. It is short but it is not flat.

EARLY CURFEW

Residential surroundings

Finishes earlier than most festivals, which makes the journey home genuinely easy. You will be back in Kent before midnight.

SMALL SITE

Quick to clear

A few thousand people rather than tens of thousands, so the exit is comparatively civilised.

VERY CLOSE

From south east London and Kent

Bromley, Orpington and Sidcup are all inside half an hour, which makes this an easy evening rather than a day out.

The shortest London festival run we do

Crystal Palace is on our side of the river and on the Kent side of London, so nothing about this journey involves a tunnel, a crossing or a trip through the centre.

An easy evening rather than a day out

Because it finishes early and sits close to home, this books more like a gig than a festival.

Practical notes

Everything is easy except the hill

There is nothing complicated about this site. It is small, well run and close to home. The one thing to know is that Crystal Palace sits high up and the walk from wherever we set down is uphill, which matters if anyone in your party would find that difficult. Tell us and we will get as close as the restrictions permit.

The early finish is the main advantage

Residential surroundings mean a firmer curfew than a rural festival, which works entirely in your favour. You are travelling home while the roads are still moving and you are back in Kent at a reasonable hour rather than in the small hours.

Cheap enough to be a spontaneous booking

At twenty-five minutes from Bromley, this is one of the few festival fares small enough to book on a whim. For a group of six or eight, the per-head cost is close to trivial and there is no reason for anyone to be driving.

Collection sits below the site

We hold position on roads that traffic can leave by rather than immediately around the park, which means walking back down the hill rather than waiting at the top. The exact point and registration are sent before the headline set ends.

South Facing travel questions

Short answers for a short journey.

How close is Crystal Palace to Kent?

Very. Fifteen to twenty-five minutes from Bromley, half an hour from Sidcup or Orpington, under an hour from Maidstone or Medway. It is the nearest London festival site to our patch.

Is there a steep walk?

There is a climb, yes. Crystal Palace sits on one of the highest points in south London and the walk from most drop-off points is uphill. It is short, but tell us if anyone would find it difficult.

What time does it finish?

Earlier than most festivals because the park is surrounded by housing. That works in your favour: you will be home at a sensible hour on roads that are still moving.

Where do you collect?

Below the site on roads that traffic can leave by, rather than immediately around the park. It means walking back down rather than waiting at the top.

Do we need a big vehicle?

No. It is a day and evening event with nothing to carry, so seat count is the whole sizing question.

Can we book at short notice?

Often yes. It is a short run and a small fare, which makes it one of the easier bookings to take at a day or two's notice.

Can you drop everyone home individually?

Yes, several drops on the way back are part of the booking rather than extra journeys.

Is the fare fixed?

Yes, agreed at booking and unaffected by the finish time or traffic.
