Hever Castle: lovely castle, narrow lanes

hever castle event transfers fixed-price taxi booking with Rushxo

Hever was Anne Boleyn's childhood home and is one of the most attractive castles in the country, sitting in the Kent Weald near Edenbridge. It is reached by single-track lanes with passing places, which is the one thing worth planning around.

The lanes

Are the whole constraint. Wealden lanes were built for farm traffic and they carry event visitors slowly, in both directions. A coach cannot wait on them, so we agree a drop and collection point in advance rather than improvising on the day.

Plan the approach

Getting to Hever

Nothing difficult, and worth arranging rather than assuming.

Slow when an event is on, in both directions.

We agree a specific point where a large vehicle can safely stop.

Which means shorter walks once you are there.

EVENTS ALL YEAR

Not just summer

Jousting, triathlons, Christmas and seasonal trails. Say which.

Genuinely local for the west of the county, and a proper cross-county run from the east.

A day at Hever

The lanes are the only real planning point

Everything else about Hever is straightforward. The approach roads are single track with passing places, they carry event traffic slowly in both directions, and a coach cannot sit and wait on them. We identify a drop and collection point in advance where a large vehicle can safely stop, which takes one conversation and removes the whole issue.

Tell us which event, because the calendar is broad

Jousting in summer is a family daytime outing. The triathlon events involve very early starts and competitors with kit. Christmas at Hever runs after dark with a later return. They are the same address and nothing else, and the arrival time in particular differs enormously.

It is genuinely close for west Kent

Ten minutes from Sevenoaks, twenty-five from Tunbridge Wells, half an hour from Bromley. For that part of our patch Hever is about as local as a proper day out gets, and the fare reflects it. From east Kent it is more of a cross-county run at around an hour and a half.

A smaller site than Leeds Castle

Which is worth knowing if you are choosing between them. Hever is more compact, with the castle, the gardens and the lake close together, so it involves less walking and works well for a half day or for anyone who would find a large estate hard going.
