Whitstable is a small town with narrow streets, a working harbour and a seafront, and in July it absorbs a very large number of visitors. Add the Oyster Festival and the parking situation moves from difficult to genuinely not worth attempting.

A day in Whitstable
The whole argument is the parking
We are not being dramatic about this. Whitstable in July is among the hardest places in Kent to leave a car, and festival week makes it worse. Being dropped in the town and collected from an agreed point removes the single most frustrating part of a day at the coast, and it costs less than most people expect for such a short journey.
Stay for the sunset
Whitstable faces north west across the Thames Estuary, which means it gets a proper sunset over the water, which is rare on the Kent coast. A great many day trips here end up staying later than planned for exactly that reason. Tell us and we will set the collection for the evening rather than the afternoon.
Book somewhere to eat
The town's restaurants and oyster bars are the reason a lot of people come, and during festival week they are extremely busy. Turning up and hoping is optimistic. This does not affect the transport, and it affects whether the day works, so it is worth saying.
We know where to stop
This is our own county and half an hour from Medway. We know which streets a vehicle can use during festival week, where the restrictions are and where a group can be collected without a twenty minute walk. For a town this tight, that local knowledge is the practical value.

Yes, and not only during the festival. Whitstable in July is among the hardest places in Kent to leave a car, with residents' parking across most of the town and unrestricted spaces gone by mid-morning.
How far is Whitstable from the rest of Kent?
Fifteen minutes from Canterbury, half an hour from Medway and around an hour from the west of the county. It is a short journey by our standards.

In July, running across a week, with the oyster landing and parade as the ceremonial centre and food and drink events throughout.
Should we book a restaurant?
If you intend to eat properly, yes. The oyster bars and restaurants are extremely busy during festival week and turning up and hoping is optimistic.
