Landing at Stansted Airport? Let us take the stress off

Your driver is waiting with a name board the moment you come through customs into arrivals – not in a car park, not on the phone. We track the flight, so a late landing costs you nothing, and the first 60 minutes after the plane lands are free waiting time. Luggage trolleys, a child seat, a wheelchair-friendly car: tell us when you book and it is ready.

SIM card and money on the way. Still carrying your own currency? That is fine: every car takes cards and contactless, so you need no pounds in hand for the journey. If you want a UK SIM or some cash, say so and your driver will point you to the kiosks in arrivals (SIM cards: WHSmith in arrivals; currency: ICE / Travelex desks in the arrivals concourse) or, usually cheaper, stop at a supermarket, Post Office or bank on the route. Our local drivers know where the fair rates and the working cash machines are – trust them to sort it in minutes.

Disabled-friendly arrival. Special assistance: Pre-book via airline/agent at least 48h ahead; Assisted Travel run by ABM; Assistance Desk Zone A before security. Step-free: Single-level terminal; lifts to the rail station. Guide & assistance dogs: Recognised assistance dogs welcome; relief areas at the far end of the forecourt (landside) and airside via the Assisted Travel team. Pets: Only assistance dogs and dogs travelling as passengers' pets enter the terminal. Airport accessibility page Our driver meets you at the assistance desk if you prefer, carries folding wheelchairs and walkers free, and assistance dogs always travel with you at no charge.

Eat and shop like a Londoner: fish & chips, Sunday roast, full English, afternoon tea, pies, pale ale, vegan & the best British brands

Our drivers get asked for these every day, so here is the shortlist we give in the car. Prices are from the venues’ own menus and booking sites (seen October 2026); tap the Google Maps link for photos, today’s menu and star ratings. Want a stop on the way? Say so when you book and the driver will wait.

Souvenirs & British brands

Tipping: 10–12.5%% service is often added in restaurants, never in pubs or chippies. Most places take cards; a few old caffs and Sam Smith’s pubs are cash-only. Vegan and gluten-free options are marked on almost every London menu – just ask. The airport shops sell the same tea tins and biscuits at 2–3 times the supermarket price, so buy souvenirs in town.

Stansted airport taxi prices: fixed fares from the terminal

A Stansted airport taxi with Rushxo is a fixed fare per car, agreed when you book and unchanged by traffic, the hour or the state of the M11. The driver meets you inside the single arrivals hall with a name board, your flight is tracked, and 60 minutes of waiting after landing is included. The tables are our published saloon fares from Stansted; the same price applies to the airport, and a return booked together is 10% off.

Every fare includes the driver, fuel, the express set-down charge, the Congestion Charge and ULEZ where they apply, and meet and greet. Executive cars, 6-seat MPVs and V Class minibuses are quoted the same way, per vehicle rather than per person.

One terminal, one meeting point: pickups and the £10 set-down charge

Stansted has one terminal used by every airline, so there is no North-or-South or numbered-terminal decision: one departures hall, one arrivals hall, one meeting point. The airport is about 40 miles north-east of central London up the M11, roughly 60 to 90 minutes by road, and it is Ryanair’s largest base, which is why its busiest hours are 5am to 7am and late evening, exactly when public transport is thinnest.

The terminal forecourt is an express set-down zone with a barrierless charge of £10 for up to 15 minutes, rising to £28 if a car stays longer (September 2026; check stanstedairport.com for changes). We include it in your fare. For pickups the driver uses the short-stay car park and walks to arrivals; there is no traditional taxi rank on the forecourt, so a pre-booked driver with a name board is the simplest way out of the building.

Stansted drop-off charges: what you pay, how to pay, and the free option

Stansted charges for every private car that uses the terminal forecourt, and the charge is camera-enforced with no barrier, so people who did not know it existed find out by letter. Here is how it works in September 2026, checked against the airport’s own pick-up and drop-off page; the figures change most years, so check there before you travel.

OptionCostTime allowed
Express Set Down (terminal forecourt)£10Up to 15 minutes; £28 if you stay 15 to 30 minutes, more beyond that
Mid Stay car park, free drop-off areaFreeFirst 20 minutes, then a free shuttle every 5 to 10 minutes; about 3 to 5 minutes to the terminal
Short Stay car park (the pick-up option)£13 for up to 30 minutes, £21 for up to an hour, £25 for two hoursTwo minutes’ walk to arrivals
Pre-booked Rushxo transferSet-down charge included in the fixed fareDoor to terminal door

How to pay the £10 set-down charge

There is no barrier and no machine on the forecourt. Cameras read the number plate on the way in and out, and you pay afterwards, online through the airport’s portal or by phone on 03450 175046, by midnight the day after your visit. Cash and cheques are not accepted. Miss that deadline and the airport issues a £100 Parking Charge Notice, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. If you drop people off at Stansted regularly, an AutoPay account settles it automatically.

How to drop off at Stansted for free

Follow the signs for the Mid Stay car park rather than the terminal. The first 20 minutes there are free, and a free shuttle bus runs to the terminal every 5 to 10 minutes, a ride of roughly 3 to 5 minutes. Allow an extra quarter of an hour over the forecourt option; on a 5am Ryanair departure that is often the difference between a relaxed bag drop and a run. Blue Badge holders get no automatic exemption on the forecourt; the airport asks anyone who needs longer than 15 minutes to speak to a traffic marshal on site.

Picking someone up

The forecourt is for setting down only, so pick-ups mean the Short Stay car park at £13 for the first half hour, which becomes £21 if the flight or the bags run late. That is why our Stansted pick-ups include 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time and a driver who meets you inside arrivals: the delay becomes our problem rather than a parking bill.

Booking a Stansted transfer removes the whole question. The fare you are quoted covers the set-down charge, the driver stops at the terminal door, and there is nothing to pay afterwards. Get a fixed quote for Stansted.

Meet and greet, flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting

Give us the flight number and we monitor it from departure. Land early and the driver is already there; land late and the pickup moves with the flight at no cost. From touchdown you have 60 minutes of free waiting; if the queues at the e-gates or the baggage hall run long, the driver waits and the fare does not change. You receive the driver’s name, photo and registration the day before and their direct mobile on the day, and our UK dispatch desk answers 020 8888 9988 24 hours a day. Our meet and greet page explains the process step by step.

How booking works

  1. Get the fare: pickup and drop-off on the booking page give an instant fixed quote; or message +44 7466 237870 on WhatsApp, or call 020 8888 9988.
  2. Confirm: pay online by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or secure the car with a 30% deposit and settle the balance 24 hours before travel. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
  3. The day before: the driver’s name, photo and registration arrive with the meeting point in arrivals.
  4. On the day: the flight is tracked, the driver texts when in position, and a return booked together is 10% off.

Taxi, Stansted Express, coach or app

The Stansted Express reaches Liverpool Street in about 50 minutes and is the right answer for one person with a cabin bag heading for the City or Shoreditch. It does not run through the night, it does not go to Kent, Essex towns off the line or the outer boroughs, and at Liverpool Street the rest of the journey starts with cases on the Tube. Coaches are cheaper still and slower. A black cab is metered; apps can re-quote when a bank of Ryanair arrivals lands at once.

A pre-booked fixed fare is door to door, per car, and settled before you fly. For two or more people, a family with luggage, a 5am departure or a midnight arrival, or anywhere outside central London, it is usually the better value once the last leg is counted, and always the more predictable. Our Stansted Express vs taxi guide runs the numbers for common journeys.

Stansted Airport transfers: questions

How much is a taxi from Stansted to central London?

Our published saloon fares from Stansted start from £120 to the West End and run to about £185 for the City, Canary Wharf and the stations, per car for up to four passengers, including the set-down charge and 60 minutes of waiting after landing. The tables above show each destination, and the same price applies in the other direction.

Where do I meet my taxi at Stansted Airport?

Inside the single arrivals hall, where the driver waits with a name board at the meeting point named in your confirmation, along with their mobile number. There is no traditional taxi rank on the forecourt, so pre-booking is the simplest route out of the building.

Is a taxi cheaper than the Stansted Express?

For one person travelling light to Liverpool Street in the daytime, the train usually is. For two or more, anyone with luggage, an early or late flight, or a destination beyond central London, a fixed fare per car is usually cheaper once the onward leg is counted, and it is door to door at any hour.

Do you charge extra if my flight is delayed?

No. We track the flight and move the pickup automatically. Free waiting runs for 60 minutes from the actual landing time, and if the terminal is slow the driver waits without a change to the fare.

How many passengers and bags can one car take?

A saloon carries up to four passengers with two large cases and hand luggage; an MPV five or six with up to six cases; an V Class minibus seven or eight with up to eight cases. Tell us the numbers at booking and the right vehicle is allocated.

Can I book on arrival or do I have to pre-book?

Pre-book. Same-day bookings are often possible by phone, but a car booked the day before is allocated to a named driver who is inside the terminal when you land, at a fixed fare agreed in advance.

Is there a charge for pickup at the Stansted forecourt?

The express set-down zone charges £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 beyond that (September 2026). We include the charge in your fare, and for pickups the driver uses the short-stay car park and meets you inside arrivals, so there is nothing to pay on the day.

Do you provide child seats or accessible vehicles?

Yes. Child seats are added at booking, and wheelchair-accessible ramp or lift vehicles are booked in advance so the passenger travels in their own chair, with no extra charge for the vehicle type.

How far is Stansted from Cambridge and how much is a taxi?

About 30 miles, 40 to 55 minutes up the M11. Our fixed fare to Cambridge is in the table above, per car, with the same price in the other direction.

Can you handle a 4am or 5am Stansted flight?

Yes. Early departures are the most common Stansted booking we take. Pickups run through the night at the same fixed fare, with no early-morning surcharge, and we confirm the car the evening before.

Stansted: questions first-time visitors ask

What is the best way to get from Stansted to central London?

The Stansted Express reaches London Liverpool Street in about 48 minutes, with trains every 15 to 30 minutes. That works well if you are travelling light and staying near Liverpool Street. With suitcases, children or a hotel away from the station, a pre-booked Rushxo car takes you door to door from £85 fixed.

Should I pre-book a Stansted taxi or use the taxi rank?

A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the fare depends on traffic and the queue depends on how many flights have just landed. A pre-booked Rushxo fare is fixed before you fly; your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board and we track your flight, so a delay does not change the booking or the price.

How far in advance should I book a Stansted transfer?

Book as soon as your flight times are confirmed so the right vehicle is reserved, especially if you need an MPV, an V Class or a very early pickup. Pickups run 24/7.

Can I book a Stansted transfer for a family of four with two young children?

Yes. For four people with luggage an MPV is the comfortable choice. Child seats are available: add each child's age when you book. Under UK rules, if a suitable child seat is not available in a licensed taxi or private hire car, children under 3 may travel in the rear without one and children aged 3 or over must wear an adult seat belt in the rear, so asking for seats when you book is the safer choice.
