London City Airport Taxi – Fixed Price from £85, Book Online 24/7
Landing at London City Airport? Let us take the stress off
Your driver is waiting with a name board the moment you come through customs into arrivals – not in a car park, not on the phone. We track the flight, so a late landing costs you nothing, and the first 60 minutes after the plane lands are free waiting time. Luggage trolleys, a child seat, a wheelchair-friendly car: tell us when you book and it is ready.
SIM card and money on the way. Still carrying your own currency? That is fine: every car takes cards and contactless, so you need no pounds in hand for the journey. If you want a UK SIM or some cash, say so and your driver will point you to the kiosks in arrivals (SIM cards: WHSmith; currency: no bureau de change airside – use a cash machine or change in town) or, usually cheaper, stop at a supermarket, Post Office or bank on the route. Our local drivers know where the fair rates and the working cash machines are – trust them to sort it in minutes.
Disabled-friendly arrival. Special assistance: Book via your airline at least 48h ahead. Step-free: Compact single terminal; DLR station step-free. Airport accessibility page Our driver meets you at the assistance desk if you prefer, carries folding wheelchairs and walkers free, and assistance dogs always travel with you at no charge.

Eat and shop like a Londoner: fish & chips, Sunday roast, full English, afternoon tea, pies, pale ale, vegan & the best British brands
Our drivers get asked for these every day, so here is the shortlist we give in the car. Prices are from the venues’ own menus and booking sites (seen October 2026); tap the Google Maps link for photos, today’s menu and star ratings. Want a stop on the way? Say so when you book and the driver will wait.

Tipping: 10–12.5%% service is often added in restaurants, never in pubs or chippies. Most places take cards; a few old caffs and Sam Smith’s pubs are cash-only. Vegan and gluten-free options are marked on almost every London menu – just ask. The airport shops sell the same tea tins and biscuits at 2–3 times the supermarket price, so buy souvenirs in town.

London City Airport taxi prices: fixed fares from the terminal
London City Airport transfers with Rushxo are a fixed fare per car, agreed when you book and unchanged by traffic, the time of day or how busy the apps are. The driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board, your flight is tracked, and 60 minutes of waiting after landing is included. The tables below are our published saloon fares from the airport; the same price applies in the other direction, and a return booked together is 10% off.

Every fare includes the driver, fuel, the airport charges, the Congestion Charge and ULEZ where they apply, and meet and greet. Executive cars, 6-seat MPVs and V Class minibuses are quoted the same way, per vehicle, not per person.

About London City Airport: terminal, drop-off charge and how pickups work
London City is the small one: a single terminal on the Royal Docks, about three miles from Canary Wharf and seven from the City. It handles business traffic to Europe and a growing leisure schedule, and it is the fastest London airport to get through in both directions, which is exactly why a pre-booked car makes sense here. The terminal has one arrivals exit, so the meeting point is simple: your driver stands just past baggage reclaim with a name board.
Drop-off is a barrierless forecourt with a charge of £8 for up to five minutes, then £1.60 a minute (September 2026; the airport publishes changes on its own site). We build the charge into your fixed fare, so there is nothing to pay at the kerb. For pickups the driver uses the short-stay car park beside the terminal and walks over to arrivals. The DLR station is on the terminal doorstep, which is worth knowing if you are one person with a rucksack; for anyone with cases, a group, or a meeting to reach, the car wins on time and certainty.
| London City Airport at a glance | Detail |
|---|---|
| Terminals | One passenger terminal; one arrivals hall |
| Drop-off charge | £8 for 5 minutes, then £1.60 per minute, included in our fare |
| Pickup point | Short-stay car park, two minutes from arrivals; driver meets you inside |
| Distance to the City | About 7 miles, 20 to 45 minutes |
| Distance to Canary Wharf | About 3 miles, 10 to 25 minutes |
| Rail alternative | DLR from the terminal to Bank in about 22 minutes |
Meet and greet, flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting
Give us the flight number when you book and we monitor it from departure. If it lands early the driver is there early; if it is late the pickup moves with it and you are not charged for the change. From the moment the aircraft is on the ground you have 60 minutes of free waiting, which covers the walk, passport control and baggage at an airport where most people are through in 20. Domestic and Schengen arrivals are met at the same point.
The driver is named, with a photo and the vehicle registration, in your confirmation the day before. On arrival you also get their direct mobile number, and our dispatch desk answers 020 8888 9988 around the clock if anything changes on the day.
Vehicles for London City Airport transfers
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon | Up to 4 | 2 large cases and hand luggage | Solo and couple transfers, the everyday choice |
| Executive | Up to 3 | 2 large cases | Client pickups, quiet business travel |
| MPV | 5 to 6 | Up to 6 cases | Families, small teams, extra luggage |
| V Class minibus | 7 to 8 | Up to 8 cases | Groups, crews, sports teams |
| Wheelchair-accessible | Varies | Ramp or lift, chair stays occupied | Booked in advance, no extra charge for the vehicle type |
Child seats are available on request at booking. For anything larger than eight passengers we send two vehicles or a 16-seater minibus, priced per vehicle in the same way.
How booking works
- Get the fare: enter pickup and drop-off on the booking page for an instant fixed quote, message +44 7466 237870 on WhatsApp, or call 020 8888 9988. The price you see is the price you pay.
- Confirm: pay online by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or secure the car with a 30% deposit and pay the balance 24 hours before travel. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
- Relax: you receive the driver’s name, photo and registration the day before, a text when they are on the way, and the meeting point inside arrivals for airport pickups.
- Coming back: book the return in the same booking and it is 10% off. For a departure we recommend a pickup time based on your flight and the traffic that day.
Taxi, DLR, black cab or app: what works from London City
For one traveller with a cabin bag the DLR is cheap and usually quick: Bank in about 22 minutes, Canary Wharf in 15 with a change at Poplar or Canning Town, and then whatever the onward leg looks like with luggage. A black cab from the rank is metered, so the fare depends on the traffic that day. A ride-hailing app quotes a price that can be re-quoted at a busy moment, and drivers will not always accept an airport job at 6am.
A pre-booked fixed fare is the option that does not move. Two people to the West End, a family to Kent with cases, or a client who must be at a meeting in the City by nine: the car is confirmed the day before, the driver is inside the terminal, and the fare was settled when you booked.
| Option | Price behaviour | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Rushxo fixed fare | Agreed at booking, includes airport charges and waiting | Groups, luggage, early flights, meetings, anywhere outside Zone 1 |
| DLR | Cheapest; pay per person | One person, light bag, central destination on the line |
| Black cab rank | Metered; rises in traffic | Kerbside, short hop into the City or Docklands |
| Ride-hailing app | Dynamic; can re-quote before pickup | Off-peak, short distance, no deadline |

Why book London City Airport transfers with Rushxo
We are a TfL-licensed private hire operator (licence 11588) based in Dartford, on the Kent side of the Dartford Crossing, and London City is the nearest airport to our home patch. That matters for the journeys other operators quote badly: Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Dartford, Gravesend, Sevenoaks, Maidstone and the Medway towns are all local runs for our drivers, priced as fixed fares rather than metered guesses. We cover every London postcode, Kent and Essex 24 hours a day, and the fare is the same at 4am as at 4pm.
Drivers are TfL-licensed with enhanced DBS checks, vehicles are licensed and insured, and you can read what customers say before you book. If you land at London City on an early flight and want a car into central London, our early-arrival guide covers the roads and the timing.

London City Airport transfers: questions
How much is a taxi from London City Airport to central London?
Our published saloon fares from the airport start from £85 for the nearest boroughs and Canary Wharf and rise with distance across London; the tables above show the figure for each destination and the same price applies in the other direction. The fare is per car for up to four passengers, includes the airport drop-off charge and any Congestion Charge, and is fixed when you book.
Where do I meet my driver at London City Airport?
Inside the single arrivals hall, just past the baggage reclaim exit, holding a name board with your name on it. The exact meeting point and the driver’s mobile number are in your confirmation.
Is there a drop-off charge at London City Airport?
Yes. The forecourt is barrierless and charges £8 for up to five minutes, then £1.60 a minute (September 2026). We include it in the fixed fare, so there is nothing to pay on the day. Pickups use the short-stay car park beside the terminal.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track the flight and move the pickup automatically. Free waiting is 60 minutes from the actual landing time, not the scheduled one, and the fare does not change for a delay.
Is the DLR cheaper than a taxi from London City?
For one person with a cabin bag, yes: the DLR runs from the terminal to Bank in about 22 minutes. For two or more people, anyone with cases, a destination off the DLR line, or an early or late flight, a fixed-fare car is usually the better value once the onward leg and the time are counted.
How far is London City Airport from Canary Wharf and from Heathrow?
Canary Wharf is about three miles, 10 to 25 minutes by car. Heathrow is about 30 miles across London, 50 to 100 minutes depending on traffic, and we run it as a fixed fare shown in the airports table above.
Do you charge extra for luggage or waiting time?
No. Luggage is included within the vehicle’s capacity, and airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting. If you need more space we suggest an MPV or V Class at booking rather than adding charges later.
Can I book a return transfer in advance?
Yes. Book both legs together and the return is 10% off. For the departure leg we agree a pickup time based on your flight and the traffic that day, and the driver waits at the address if you are running behind.
Can I cancel or change a London City Airport booking?
Yes. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the pickup, and changes to the time or address are made by phone or WhatsApp at no cost. Payment is by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay online, or a 30% deposit with the balance due 24 hours before travel.

London City Airport: questions first-time visitors ask
What is the best way to get from London City Airport to central London?
The DLR stops right at the London City Airport terminal, with direct trains towards Bank in the City. That works well if you are travelling light and staying near Bank. With suitcases, children or a hotel away from the station, a pre-booked Rushxo car takes you door to door from £85 fixed.
Should I pre-book a London City Airport taxi or use the taxi rank?
A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the fare depends on traffic and the queue depends on how many flights have just landed. A pre-booked Rushxo fare is fixed before you fly; your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board and we track your flight, so a delay does not change the booking or the price.
How far in advance should I book a London City Airport transfer?
Book as soon as your flight times are confirmed so the right vehicle is reserved, especially if you need an MPV, an V Class or a very early pickup. Pickups run 24/7.
Can I book a London City Airport transfer for a family of four with two young children?
Yes. For four people with luggage an MPV is the comfortable choice. Child seats are available: add each child's age when you book. Under UK rules, if a suitable child seat is not available in a licensed taxi or private hire car, children under 3 may travel in the rear without one and children aged 3 or over must wear an adult seat belt in the rear, so asking for seats when you book is the safer choice.
