Black Deer transfers: our own county's festival
Eridge Park sits on the Kent and Sussex border, a beautiful deer park with an Americana festival in it and absolutely no useful public transport. For once, that is our home ground rather than a long trip.
Twenty minutes from Tunbridge Wells, under an hour from most of Kent. Short journeys mean small fares, and it means our drivers know the lanes around Eridge rather than following a satnav into a hedge.
What a local festival means in practice
Four things that make this different from every other festival on our list.
Eridge is not walkable
There is a small station at Eridge but the site is a distance from it along unlit lanes. Nobody arrives on foot with camping kit.
The approach roads
Rural lanes with passing places, which back up quickly on arrival day. Local knowledge is worth more here than motorway experience.
Both work
Because it is close, a lot of Kent people do Black Deer as day tickets and go home each night. That is not an option at Glastonbury.
Different requirements
A gentler festival with a family audience, which means pushchairs and grandparents rather than five days of mud.

The lanes are the constraint
Eridge Park is reached along rural roads that were not designed for festival traffic, and on the Friday afternoon they behave accordingly. Our drivers know the alternatives, which matters more here than on a motorway run where everyone is stuck in the same place regardless.
Sleeping at home is a real option
This is the only festival on our list where going home each night is genuinely practical for a Kent audience. For families in particular, day tickets with a run home each evening avoids the entire camping question and often costs less overall than the tickets plus the kit.
A gentler crowd, different requirements
Black Deer draws families and an older audience than most festivals, which means pushchairs, camping chairs and occasionally someone who would struggle with a long walk. Tell us at booking and we will set down as close as we are permitted and size the vehicle for what you are carrying.
Book early anyway
June is the start of our busiest season, and a local festival competes for the same vehicles as weddings and proms. Being close does not make it easier to find a minibus on the day.

There is a small station at Eridge, but the festival site is a distance away along unlit rural lanes. It is not a practical arrival route with camping kit or with children.
How far is it from Kent?
Very close. Twelve to twenty minutes from Tunbridge Wells, half an hour from Tonbridge, under an hour from most of the rest of Kent. It is one of our shortest festival runs.
Can we go home each night instead of camping?

Can you drop us at the entrance?
As close as the arrangements on the day permit. On the busiest arrival afternoon the marshals direct traffic differently and we confirm the point before you travel.

Yes, tell us what is coming when you book. Black Deer draws a family crowd and the load is usually different from a typical festival.

Early. June is the start of our busiest season and being local does not mean vehicles are available at short notice.
