The British Grand Prix: the traffic is the event
Silverstone on race Sunday draws the largest crowd of any sporting occasion in Britain, into a former airfield in rural Northamptonshire served by country roads. Everything about planning this weekend follows from that one fact, and the people who enjoy it most are the ones who plan the exit before the entrance.
On race day alone, with well over four hundred thousand across the weekend. No other UK sporting event comes close, and the surrounding road network was built for a village rather than for a small city arriving at once.

Hours, not minutes
Traffic builds from before dawn on race day. Arriving at nine for a two o'clock start is not cautious, it is normal.
Two to four hours
A hundred and sixty thousand people leave country lanes at once. There is no clever route around it.
Practice, qualifying, race
Friday and Saturday are far easier to reach and considerably cheaper.

Doing the Grand Prix properly
Consider Friday or Saturday instead
Practice on Friday and qualifying on Saturday cost a fraction of race day, involve perhaps a third of the crowd and are dramatically easier to get in and out of. For a first visit, or for a group with anyone who would struggle with a fourteen-hour day, Saturday qualifying is the better ticket by a wide margin and you still see the cars at full speed.
If you camp, the transport problem disappears
A very large share of the Silverstone crowd camps on site for the weekend, and it neatly removes the worst part: you arrive Thursday or Friday when the roads are manageable and leave Monday when they are clear. We run a drop on the way in and a collection days later, which is a simpler and cheaper booking than a race-day return and a far more pleasant weekend.
We will not promise you a quick exit
Some operators will. A hundred and sixty thousand people leaving a rural circuit take hours, and any vehicle in that queue takes hours with them. What we can do is agree the collection point in advance, hold outside the worst of it, and be honest at the booking stage about what time you will actually be home. A fixed fare means the waiting does not cost you more.
Book months ahead
Grand Prix weekend competes for vehicles with the height of the wedding season and the festival calendar, and it is a fixed date everybody knows about a year in advance. Coaches for that weekend go early. If you have tickets, arrange the transport now rather than in June.

What time do we need to leave Kent on race day?
Between half three and half four in the morning. That is not an exaggeration: traffic into Silverstone builds from before dawn and a hundred and sixty thousand people are arriving on country roads.
How long does it take to get out afterwards?
Two to four hours to clear the circuit and surrounding roads, depending where you are parked. There is no route around it and we will not pretend otherwise.
Is Friday or Saturday easier?
Considerably. Practice and qualifying involve perhaps a third of the crowd, cost far less and are much easier to reach. For a first visit, Saturday is the better ticket.
What if we are camping?

How far is Silverstone from Kent?
Around a hundred to a hundred and forty miles, which is two to three and a half hours on a normal day. Race day bears no relation to that.
Does the fixed fare cover the waiting?
Yes. The fare is agreed before travel and the exit queues do not add to it, which is the main reason to book rather than drive.
How far ahead should we book?
Months. Grand Prix weekend is a fixed date that competes with the wedding and festival season, and coaches go early.
Can you take a full coach?
Yes, up to forty-nine seats, with multiple vehicles run as one booking for larger parties.
