The shape of N19
N19 is Archway and Upper Holloway: the Archway gyratory and tower, the Whittington Hospital, the steep streets up to Highgate and Dartmouth Park, and Holloway Road’s shops. Archway (Northern line) and Upper Holloway (Overground, Gospel Oak–Barking) are the stations; Highgate Hill and the A1 are the roads everyone uses.
The journeys N19 actually books
Hospital journeys to and from the Whittington – outpatients, discharges, maternity at odd hours – are a large share of what we do in N19, alongside airport runs for families (Luton is 35 minutes up the A1/M1), students at the Archway campus of London Met, removals-day runs and evenings back from Camden and the West End.
Fixed-fare airport runs from N19
Saloon prices from the live quote engine (checked October 2026); estates, 8-seaters and executive cars quoted at booking. Arriving instead? Fixed prices from each airport to N19 are on the linked airport pages and on Airports to London.
When a taxi beats the tube in N19
The Northern line to King’s Cross takes 10 minutes and to Bank about 20, which is unbeatable for one person. Luton and Stansted by public transport mean a change at King’s Cross or Tottenham Hale with the bags; from Archway a fixed-price car is door to door in under 40 minutes to Luton most of the day.

Local know-how: Archway & Upper Holloway
Archway Road up to Highgate is the postcard route (Highgate Cemetery and Waterlow Park are a short hop); the Boogaloo and St John’s Tavern are the local pubs people ask us for. The gyratory was replaced by a two-way road in 2017, which made pick-ups at the station much easier: we stop on Junction Road or the Highgate Hill side by the tower. Whittington Hospital has a drop-off bay on Magdala Avenue.

Tipping: 10–12.5%% service is often added in restaurants, never in pubs or chippies. Most places take cards; a few old caffs and Sam Smith’s pubs are cash-only. Vegan and gluten-free options are marked on almost every London menu – just ask. The airport shops sell the same tea tins and biscuits at 2–3 times the supermarket price, so buy souvenirs in town.
