GALA: the festival without headliners
Most festivals are built around names on a poster, and the day becomes a series of dashes between stages to catch them. GALA in Peckham Rye Park is not arranged that way, and the practical effect is a crowd that settles in one place and stays there for hours.

A day at GALA
Nearly a local trip
At six miles from Bromley and under an hour from most of north Kent, Peckham Rye is about as close as a London festival gets to our patch. That makes GALA one of the cheaper festival bookings we do, and one where a group of eight or ten will find the fare per head is genuinely trivial against the ticket price.
Multi-day tickets need multi-day planning
There is no camping at a city park festival, so a weekend ticket means going home each night and coming back the next day. Booked as three separate journeys that gets expensive; booked as one arrangement it does not. Tell us the days and the numbers for each, since groups often shrink or grow over a weekend.
The gentler exit is real
Because the crowd is not all standing in front of one stage waiting for a headliner to finish, people drift out over a longer window rather than surging through the gates in one movement. It does not remove the need for a sensible collection point, and it does make the last twenty minutes of a GALA noticeably more civilised than the equivalent at a bigger event.
Peckham is residential on all sides
The park sits in a dense part of south London with terraced streets around it and controlled parking throughout. We agree a collection point back from the gates where a vehicle can actually stop, usually ten minutes' walk, and we do not attempt anything closer.
