Brighton: nothing to book
Almost every other day out on this site needs a ticket, a timed slot or a plan. Brighton needs none of them. You arrive, you wander, you eat somewhere, and the only thing anybody has to decide in advance is roughly when they want picking up.
Which is the entire appeal and the reason this is one of the easiest bookings we take. There is no entry time to hit, no closure to work around and no schedule to hold to. Tell us a drop time and a collection time and the rest looks after itself.

A day in Brighton
The pebbles catch people out
Brighton beach is shingle rather than sand, which is fine and is not what people picture when they say a day at the seaside. If small children are coming expecting to build sandcastles, that is worth knowing beforehand. Everything else about the city more than makes up for it.
The road beats the train, unusually
Kent to the Sussex coast by rail is slow along the coastal route and goes via London on the alternative, neither of which is quick. The drive across Sussex is direct, pleasant and about an hour from west Kent. It is one of the few journeys where we would say the road is clearly the better option regardless of cost.
Set the collection later than you think
Brighton evenings extend. A group that planned to leave at six regularly finds itself still eating at eight, and there is no reason not to plan for that. We agree a collection time at booking and it costs nothing to set it later, whereas changing it on the day is harder.
It works for almost any group
Families, friends, a birthday, a mixed-age group, a couple. There is no ticket to buy, no age restriction and nothing that excludes anyone, which makes it the most adaptable day out on this site and the one we would suggest when a group cannot agree on anything else.

Do we need to book anything?
No. There are no tickets, no timed entry and no schedule. The only decision is roughly what time you want collecting.
How far is Brighton from Kent?
Around thirty-five to eighty miles, roughly an hour from Tunbridge Wells to two and a half hours from east Kent, across Sussex rather than through London.
Why not take the train?
Kent to the Sussex coast by rail is slow along the coast or routes via London. The drive across Sussex is direct and much quicker.
Is the beach sandy?
No, it is pebbles. Worth knowing if small children are coming expecting sandcastles.
What is there to do?
The Lanes for independent shops, the seafront and pier, the Royal Pavilion, and a very good selection of places to eat and drink.
What time should we book the return?
Later than you think. Brighton evenings extend, and it costs nothing to set the collection later at the booking stage.
Is parking really that bad?
Seafront spaces fill by mid-morning on any decent summer weekend, and the Lanes are pedestrianised. Being dropped avoids all of it.
Is the fare fixed?
Yes, agreed at booking including the waiting.
