Stamford Bridge: no space around it at all
Chelsea's ground occupies a footprint so tight that the club built hotels and apartments into the stadium itself. There is a main road on one side and buildings on the others, which means forty thousand people leave through a handful of gates onto the Fulham Road.
Capacity, in a stadium hemmed in on every side. The footprint is the smallest of any major London ground relative to the crowd it holds, and that constraint decides everything about arriving and leaving.
What a hemmed-in ground means on a matchday
Stamford Bridge has no car parks, no plaza and no room. Everything follows from that.
The only frontage

Working a matchday in SW6
The Fulham Road closes, so we sit back from it
On a matchday the road outside the ground is closed to through traffic and the surrounding residential streets are permit-controlled with firm enforcement. We drop as close to the closure line as stewards allow, which is usually a five to ten minute walk, and collect from further out towards Fulham or Earls Court where the roads are moving.
Football crowds clear quickly, which helps
Forty thousand supporters who have done it before disperse considerably faster than the same number at a concert. The closures also lift sooner. It means the walk out is brisker than at a stadium event and we are typically moving within twenty-five minutes of the whistle.
European nights are the ones people book
An eight o'clock midweek kick-off means leaving Kent in the rush hour and getting home around midnight with work the next day. Doing that on public transport, with a change and a Kent connection at the end, is the journey people are unwilling to attempt twice. It is comfortably our most-booked fixture type here.

Chelsea's women's team plays a good share of its home fixtures at Kingsmeadow in Kingston rather than at Stamford Bridge, and that is a different ground in a different part of London entirely. Your ticket says which. It is worth checking before you book anything.

What time should we leave for an 8pm European night?
From Gravesend around half five, from Medway closer to five. Midweek evening kick-offs coincide with the rush hour, which makes them the hardest fixtures to time.
What time will we get home?
Around midnight for north Kent after an evening kick-off, later further east. Worth knowing before agreeing to a midweek European tie.
