Travel for Armed Forces Personnel and Veterans

rushxo armed forces travel fixed-price taxi booking with Rushxo

Published 26 July 2026 · Last reviewed 26 July 2026

RushXO provides pre-booked private hire for serving personnel, veterans, families and units — getting to a gate with all your kit before a report time, transits between base and station, airport runs, and journeys to events and appointments. Arranged in advance, at a fixed fare where applicable, and invoiced where an account is in place.

Two things make these journeys different: a base postcode gets a driver to a gate rather than to where you're going, and plans move at short notice. We plan the gate before the day, and we write our amendment terms for people whose dates change.

Arranging duty travel for others? A unit account means a reference, a monthly invoice and one contact rather than a stack of individual claims.

The practical bit

The Postcode Gets You to the Gate

A satnav takes an establishment postcode and stops at the perimeter. What happens next isn't the driver's decision, and it varies a great deal between sites — so it's worth settling at booking rather than at a barrier.

When you book, tell us whatever you know:

  • Which gate. Larger sites have more than one, they don't all open at the same hours, and they can be a long way apart. The one nearest on a map is often not the one you want.
  • Whether a civilian vehicle can go past it. Sometimes yes, sometimes only with prior notice, sometimes not at all. If the answer is no, we plan a drop at the gate and factor in the walk.
  • Whether the driver will need photo ID, or to be signed in, or to be on a list beforehand. Tell us and we'll make sure the driver has what's needed.
  • Where you're actually going. The block, the mess, the terminal, the medical centre, the HQ building. On a large site that distance matters and it changes what time we collect you.
  • Anything the establishment tells visitors. If there are published arrival instructions, forward them — that's worth more than any address.

Our drivers won't wait at a gate longer than they're asked to, won't photograph anything, and won't ask you questions about where you're going or why. They'll drop you where you've told us and leave.

Kit and timings

Kit, and Being There on Time

Size the vehicle on the kit, not the seats

One person moving between postings or heading out with full kit is not a one-suitcase booking. A bergen, a grip and a holdall will fill a saloon boot on their own, and two people with the same will not fit at all.

  • Tell us the number of large items, not just the number of people. It's the boot that decides the vehicle.
  • Mention anything long, heavy or awkward. It changes the vehicle rather than just the packing, and it's better known at quote stage.
  • Several people travelling together with a full load each is usually two vehicles or an 8-seater — see group and 8-seater transfers.

A report time is a fixed point

Tell us the time you need to have arrived rather than a time to be collected, and we'll work backwards through the route, the traffic on that day, the gate and the walk. If the collection time that produces is uncomfortably early, you'll know when you book rather than on the morning.

For anything before about six in the morning, book the night before at the latest — those journeys are much easier arranged with hours of notice than minutes.

When the date moves

Movements slip. Flights go back a day, a move gets brought forward, a course changes. That's normal and our terms should reflect it rather than penalise it.

[CONTENT TEAM: state the actual amendment and cancellation policy here, plainly and specifically. This is the single most important paragraph on the page for this audience. If the standard terms are tight, consider whether a more generous position is worth the trade — a booking that can't be moved without a charge is a booking made with someone else.]

Regular journeys

Transits, Leave and Weekend Travel

A lot of these journeys repeat: base to station on a Friday, station to base on a Sunday night, the same run every few weeks for the length of a posting.

  • Book the pattern rather than the journeys. Set it up once and it runs, with a fixed fare where applicable so it's predictable.
  • Pause it rather than cancel it. Exercises, courses, leave, a deployment — tell us and we'll pause the pattern instead of you having to cancel each one.
  • Share the vehicle. If several of you are heading the same way at the same time, one vehicle split between you is cheaper than three. Mention it and we'll match where we can.
  • Sunday nights and Friday afternoons are the busy ones — book early for those specifically, because everyone else is travelling then too.
  • Long journeys in one leg. Base to home city without changing trains with a full load — see UK-wide private hire and train station transfers.

Airport journeys, including for personnel travelling overseas or returning, via London airport transfers. Where flight monitoring is available the transfer follows the actual arrival rather than the scheduled one, which matters on a route where timings move.

For units and messes

Unit Accounts and Duty Travel

Written for whoever arranges travel rather than whoever takes it.

  • One account, many travellers. Anyone you authorise books against it. No cards, no cash, nothing to reclaim afterwards.
  • Your reference on every booking, carried through to the invoice so it can be checked and coded without a phone call.
  • A monthly invoice with a breakdown by journey, date and traveller.
  • A named contact here, so a query goes to someone who already knows the account.
  • Fixed fares where applicable, which makes recurring travel budgetable rather than estimated.
  • Standing bookings for regular runs, set up once and paused when the unit is away.

See business accounts for the general terms, or call and we'll set one up.

Content team. Same verification as the school staff page: confirm the finance process can genuinely store a reference against a booking and reproduce it on a consolidated monthly invoice with a per-journey breakdown, and that there is a named account contact. Cut any bullet that can't be delivered — this will be tested within the first month.

Veterans

Veterans

For most journeys this section is unnecessary — you want a car that turns up on time at a fare you agreed, which is what we do for everyone.

Where it's useful is the things you can ask for without explaining. Some people want them, most don't, and we don't assume either way:

  • A quiet journey — no conversation, no radio unless you ask for it.
  • Driver details before travel where available — name, vehicle and registration, so you know what's coming.
  • The route stated at the start, and the driver saying so if it changes.
  • A specific pickup point, and extra time so nothing is rushed.
  • To stop at a safe, public place at any point in a journey, without being asked why.

You can set any of these once and have them applied to every booking — see travel preferences you can save. No reason needed, no explanation asked for, and nothing recorded beyond the instruction itself.

Events and commemorations

Remembrance services, unit reunions, association events, veterans' funerals, memorial dedications. These often mean a group travelling together, sometimes a long way, sometimes with people who'd rather not drive on the day.

  • Several pickups into one vehicle, or several vehicles arriving together
  • A named drop-off point close to where you actually need to be, agreed in advance
  • Return journeys booked at the same time, which around a large event is the leg that disappears first
  • Longer journeys between towns in one leg, with the whole thing quoted together

See event transfers for larger bookings and hotel transfers where there's an overnight involved.

Families

Family Travel

Journeys to and from a base, airport runs to meet someone coming home, moves between postings, and travel to events where the whole family is going.

  • Group vehicles where several of you are travelling, with luggage counted separately from people.
  • Odd hours are normal. Arrivals and departures don't respect the working day, and a pre-booked car at four in the morning costs the same as one at four in the afternoon where fixed pricing applies.
  • Short notice happens. Tell us what you know and we'll do what we can; if the date is uncertain, book something moveable rather than nothing.
  • Child seats — tell us ages and numbers when you book. [CONTENT TEAM: state the actual child seat policy.]
  • Moves between postings with a full car load — tell us the volume and we'll size it properly.

One thing we don't do: we don't carry cadets or under-18s travelling without a parent or guardian. That's a separate arrangement with its own requirements and we're not set up for it.

Our commitment

The Armed Forces Covenant

[CONTENT TEAM: this section publishes only if RushXO has signed. If it has, state it plainly with the date and let people verify it. If it hasn't, delete this section entirely rather than writing something adjacent — implying a commitment that doesn't exist is worse on this page than on any other in this series.]

RushXO has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a public commitment that businesses make to treat those who serve, have served, and their families fairly. You can read what the Covenant involves on GOV.UK rather than relying on us to describe it.

What that means here is ordinary and specific rather than ceremonial: amendment terms written for plans that move, vehicles sized for kit, gates planned before the day, and no assumptions made about anybody.

What we don't claim: we hold no Ministry of Defence contract, framework place or approved-supplier status, we have no relationship with any establishment or unit, and we're not a defence contractor. We're a private hire company that has signed a public commitment and tries to do the ordinary things properly.

Your information

What We Ask For, and What We Don't

  • We ask for what the journey needs. Where from, where to, when, how many people, how much kit, a contact number. Nothing else.
  • We don't ask where you're going beyond the drop-off, what you'll be doing, what unit you're with, or anything about dates or movements past the journey itself. Please don't put it in the booking notes either — a booking record is a commercial record, not a secure one, and it isn't information we should be holding.
  • Your driver gets the operational minimum — the booking name, the addresses, the time and any instructions you've added.
  • No categorising. Bookings aren't tagged or grouped by anything about the passenger, and nothing carries between bookings unless you ask us to save a preference.
  • On a unit account, the account holder sees what it is invoiced for: journey, date, traveller and reference. Personal journeys should be booked personally.
  • Retention. Booking records are held for [X] as required for accounting and licensing, then deleted. Detail in our privacy policy.
Accessibility

Accessibility and Travel Requirements

What we can arrange depends on your specific need, your location and your date, so tell us before booking rather than hoping on the day.

  • Step-free or easier access into and out of the vehicle
  • A wheelchair, prosthetic, walking frame or other equipment travelling with you
  • Extra time at pickup and drop-off
  • Assistance with kit and bags
  • An assistance dog travelling with you, at no additional charge
  • A companion or family member travelling in the same vehicle
  • A specific drop-off point relative to a particular entrance
  • Any of the journey preferences listed above, saved once — see travel preferences you can save

Content team. Publish no claim about wheelchair-accessible vehicles unless RushXO genuinely operates them and can say where and when. If they aren't offered, say so plainly and signpost a provider who does. Replace this box with an accurate statement either way. See also accessibility.

Call "020 8888 9988" or message WhatsApp before booking and we'll tell you honestly what we can arrange.

Why pre-book

Why Pre-Booking Suits These Journeys

  • The gate gets sorted in advance. Which one, whether the vehicle goes past it, what the driver needs — decided at booking rather than at a barrier.
  • The report time gets planned backwards from, including the walk from the drop-off.
  • The vehicle is sized on the kit, so nothing gets left on a pavement.
  • Fixed fares where applicable — the same journey costs the same at 0430 as at 1430.
  • Recurring runs just run, paused rather than cancelled when you're away.
  • Shared journeys are possible, which needs arranging in advance to happen at all.
  • A number that reaches a person, which matters when a date has just moved.

Insert here — indicative "from" fares for the main base-to-station and base-to-airport routes. Blocked on operations rather than writing. This audience is price-transparent and frequently comparing against a rail fare and a long walk with kit. A band is better than silence.

Journey types

Example Journeys

Examples of journey types — not fixed routes or scheduled services. Everything is quoted individually against its own date, time and addresses.

  • Home → a base gate, arriving before a report time, with full kit
  • Base → nearest station on a Friday, and back on a Sunday night
  • Base → airport for personnel travelling overseas
  • Airport → home or base for someone returning, with the family meeting them
  • A shared vehicle for several people from the same unit heading the same way
  • Home → a medical or rehabilitation appointment, and back
  • Several pickups → a remembrance service or a reunion, arriving together
  • A move between postings with a full vehicle load

Longer journeys via UK-wide private hire. If you're arriving into the UK from overseas, arriving in the UK covers that separately.

Booking

How to Book

  1. Tell us the time you need to have arrived

Not a pickup time. We work backwards through the route, the gate and the walk.

  2. Give us the establishment and the gate

Plus anything you know about access — whether a vehicle can go past, whether the driver needs ID or prior notice, and where on the site you're heading.

  3. Count the kit separately from the people

Number of large items, and anything long, heavy or awkward.

  4. Say if it repeats

A weekly run or a posting-length pattern set up once, paused when you're away.

  5. Say if you'd share

If others are heading the same way at the same time, one vehicle split between you is cheaper.

  6. Say whether it's personal or on an account

On a unit account, give us the reference and it goes on the invoice.

  7. Ask about moving it before you book

If the date might change, ask what the terms are first. We'd rather tell you upfront than surprise you later.

Content team: verify every step against the live booking flow. Steps 1, 3, 4 and 6 need fields that don't currently exist — fixed arrival time, luggage count, recurring pattern and account reference. All four have now been requested across multiple pages in this series.

13 — Questions

FAQs

Can you drop me inside the base or only at the gate?

That depends on the establishment and it isn't our decision. Tell us which gate you need and whatever you know about access — whether a civilian vehicle can go past it, whether the driver needs photo ID or prior notice — and we'll plan accordingly. Where the answer is a drop at the gate, we build the walk to your block into the timing rather than discovering it on the day.

I've got a report time. Can you work to it?

Tell us the time you need to have arrived rather than a pickup time, and we'll work backwards through the route, the traffic on that day, the gate and the walk. If the collection time that produces is earlier than you'd like, you'll know when you book. For anything before about six in the morning, book the night before at the latest.

Will my kit fit?

Tell us the number of large items as well as the number of people and we'll size the vehicle on the kit, because that's what decides it. A bergen, a grip and a holdall will fill a saloon boot on their own. Two people with a full load each is usually two vehicles or an 8-seater — we'll tell you at quote stage rather than turning up too small.

My date might move. What happens to the booking?

[CONTENT TEAM: state the actual amendment and cancellation policy here, specifically. This is the most important answer on the page for this audience — plans move routinely and a booking that can't be changed without a penalty is a booking made elsewhere.] Ask us about the terms before you book rather than after, and we'll tell you plainly.

Can several of us share a vehicle from camp?

Yes, and on a Friday afternoon or a Sunday night it's usually the sensible option. Tell us where you're all heading and when, mention that you'd share, and we'll match where we can and split the fare. For a group with full kit each it may be an 8-seater or two vehicles rather than one car.

Can our unit set up an account and be invoiced?

Yes. Anyone you authorise books against it, your reference is carried on the booking and shown on the invoice, and you get a monthly invoice with a breakdown by journey, date and traveller — plus a named contact here rather than a general queue. Call and we'll set it up.

Can I book the same journey every week for a posting?

Yes. Set the pattern once and it runs, with a fixed fare where applicable. Exercises, courses, leave or a deployment get the pattern paused rather than each booking cancelled — just tell us the dates.

Do you have a discount for armed forces personnel or veterans?

[CONTENT TEAM: answer plainly. If RushXO participates in a recognised scheme, name it. If not, say so in one sentence. Do not use warm or appreciative language that a reader could read as an offer that doesn't exist.]

Have you signed the Armed Forces Covenant?

[CONTENT TEAM: yes or no, plainly, with the date if yes. If not signed, the honest answer is "not yet" — and see §01, because signing it is free, quick and the strongest credential available on this page.]

Are your drivers security cleared?

No, and we won't imply otherwise. Our drivers are licensed private hire drivers with the checks their licensing authority requires — we can tell you exactly what those are if you ask. Clearance is a different thing entirely and we don't hold it. If your journey requires a cleared driver, we're not the right supplier and we'd rather say so now.

Do you have an MOD contract?

No. We hold no Ministry of Defence contract, framework place or approved-supplier status, and we have no relationship with any establishment or unit. We're an independent private hire company, and everything we do offer is set out on this page.

Can you take cadets or under-18s travelling alone?

No. Journeys for under-18s travelling without a parent or guardian are a separate arrangement with their own requirements and we're not set up for it. Adults travelling with children in the same vehicle is an ordinary booking.

Can I ask for a quiet journey?

Yes, and you never need to say why. No conversation, no radio unless you ask for it. You can also ask for driver details before travel, the route stated at the start, a specific pickup point, or extra time — and you can save any of those so they apply to every booking rather than being asked for each time.

Will the driver ask me questions?

They're asked not to. No questions about where you're going beyond the drop-off, what you're doing, or anything about your service. We don't record it either — a booking record is a commercial record and that information has no business being in it.

Tell us the gate and the time you need to be there.

A transit with full kit before an early report time, a weekly run to the station, an airport journey, or several vehicles to a service. Send the details and we'll plan it backwards from the deadline — and if the date might move, ask us about that first.
