Leeds Bradford is the highest major airport in England. It sits up at Yeadon on the moor, several hundred feet above the city, and it gets weather Leeds does not. It also has no railway station. Those two facts govern every journey to LBA — and they are exactly why a fixed-fare car, planned for the hill rather than the valley, is the sensible way up.

Every airport has a quirk. Leeds Bradford's is that it is on a hill — the highest major airport in England, perched at Yeadon on the moor above the Aire valley. That single geographical fact explains almost everything people find frustrating about LBA: the fog when Leeds is clear, the snow when the city has rain, the winter diversions, the delays that arrive from nowhere. It also explains why there is no railway station: you do not casually run a line up a moor.

RushXO runs LBA on one fixed taxi fare for the vehicle, not per person, agreed before you travel, with the drop-off charge, the short-stay parking your driver uses to meet you and any tolls already inside it. What we add here that matters more than anywhere else on our network is that we plan for the weather on the hill, not the forecast in the city. The hill

Why LBA's Weather Is Its Own Thing

This is not a complaint about the airport. It is a fact of the geography, and the reason we plan LBA journeys differently.

🌫

Fog on the moor when Leeds is clear

Six hundred and eighty feet is enough to put the airport inside a cloud base that the city sits comfortably below. LBA can be fogged in while people in Leeds are looking at blue sky and wondering why their flight is delayed. We watch the airport's own conditions, not the city's.

Snow and ice arrive earlier and leave later

When the valley gets sleet, the moor gets snow. The approach roads up from Horsforth and Guiseley are genuinely steeper than they look on a map, and in December they are the reason we set off earlier rather than driving faster. A gritted A658 is not the same as a clear one.

Diversions and long delays are a real feature

LBA's reputation for winter disruption is earned. Flights divert; arrivals sit; a two-hour delay is not unusual. This is precisely why our sixty free minutes matter here more than at a mild-weather airport — and why we track your flight rather than trusting the schedule.

🕑

Which is why we build the margin in

On a frosty January morning we will collect you earlier than the mileage suggests, and we will say so when we quote. Being early at LBA costs you a coffee in a compact terminal. Being late costs you the flight, and there may not be another one that day.

What this means in practice

Nothing dramatic. We check the airport's conditions rather than the city's, we add time in winter without being asked, and we track the inbound flight so a weather delay simply moves your pickup instead of leaving a driver on the meter or, worse, gone.

You will not notice any of it when it works — which is the point.

Indicative saloon fares, both directions. Executive, MPV and 8–9 seat vehicles are priced above these. Journey times are typical off-peak and in fair weather; the climb up from the valley in winter or peak runs longer. Fares last reviewed June 2026.

How the Arrival Works

Single terminal, straightforward arrival — with one extra thing we do at LBA that we do not need to do elsewhere.

1

We watch the flight

Your flight number is tracked from departure. At LBA this is not a formality — weather delays and diversions are common and often long. A delay simply moves your pickup, at no cost, however long it runs.

2

We watch the hill

The bit we do not do anywhere else. We check the airport's own conditions, not the Leeds forecast, and set off earlier in fog, frost or snow. You will not know we did it. That is the idea.

3

Driver waits inside

Short-stay car park, then into the arrivals hall with your name on a board. One building, one hall. The parking cost is ours, not yours.

4

60 free minutes

The clock starts at touchdown. LBA is exactly the airport where that hour earns its keep, because the delay that got you here rarely stops at the runway.

5

Bags to the car

Trolley taken, cases loaded, walked to the vehicle. On departures the same in reverse: terminal door, bags out, forecourt charge already settled by us.

6

Fixed fare, paid your way

Pay online at booking or by card in the car. The number does not move — not for snow on the A658, not for a three-hour delay, not for a 04:00 pickup.

A big Yorkshire catchment, none of it on a rail line to the terminal.

🏭 Leeds & Bradford

The two cities in the name, and the two shortest city runs. Twenty-five to forty-five minutes depending on the traffic and the hill, fixed fare, met inside arrivals on the way home rather than a queue for the rank.

Timing & roads

When to Leave for Leeds Bradford

Two hours before short-haul, three before long-haul — and in winter, more. We plan the collection backwards from the flight using live traffic and the airport's own conditions, which at LBA is a meaningfully different exercise from anywhere else on our network.

The climb

Every approach to LBA is a climb. From Leeds it is the A65 and the A658 up through Horsforth; from Bradford it is up through Shipley and Guiseley. These are ordinary roads in June and serious ones in January, and the last two miles are steeper than the map admits. Your driver watches the conditions on the hill, not the forecast in the valley.

The A65 and the ring road

The A65 through Kirkstall and Horsforth is the main artery and it is slow in the morning peak. The Leeds Outer Ring Road adds its own queue. Neither is dramatic, but both are predictable enough that we simply build them in rather than hoping.

Winter, honestly

In December, January and February we will quote a departure time that looks early. It is early on purpose. LBA is where an optimistic schedule meets a moor, and the moor wins. We would rather you had a coffee in the terminal than a conversation with a closed gate.

About RushXO Leeds Bradford Transfers

One fixed taxi fare agreed at booking, a licensed and enhanced-DBS-checked driver whose name and vehicle you have before the day, and a clean recent-model car. What LBA specifically asks of an operator is respect for the hill. Any firm can quote a mileage. Fewer will look at the airport's own conditions on a January morning, add half an hour without being asked, and still hold the fare they quoted in October. That is the job here, and it is why the sixty free minutes and the flight tracking are not marketing lines at this airport — they are the product.

Child seats are free on request. Accessible and step-free vehicles can be arranged in advance subject to availability. Returns are set on the same fixed-fare basis with the inbound flight tracked automatically — which matters a great deal at an airport where a two-hour weather delay is an ordinary Tuesday.

About RushXO

RushXO Ltd is a Dartford-based private hire operator licensed by Transport for London, registered at Companies House under number 16464640 and with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZC112187. Every driver holds a current Private Hire Driver licence, which requires an enhanced DBS check, a medical and topographical testing. Our entire model rests on one promise: the fixed fare quoted at booking is the fare you pay, every time. Learn more at www.rushxo.com, or browse the full airport transfer hub.

Frequently asked

Leeds Bradford Airport Taxi — Your Questions

Is there a train station at Leeds Bradford Airport?
No. Leeds Bradford Airport has no railway station. It sits at Yeadon, high on the moor above the Aire valley, and the nearest stations are several miles away in the valley below — from which you would still need a bus or taxi to climb up to the terminal. A booked car goes straight to the terminal door and skips the climb entirely.
Why does Leeds Bradford get so much weather?
Because of where it is. LBA is the highest major airport in England, sitting at roughly 680 feet on the moor above Yeadon. That altitude gives it fog, low cloud and snow that Leeds city centre, a few hundred feet lower, simply does not get. It is why LBA has a reputation for diversions and delays in winter, and why we plan the approach for the weather on the hill rather than the forecast in the valley.
How much is a taxi to Leeds Bradford Airport?
Fares start from £30 in a saloon and are quoted as one fixed price for the whole vehicle, not per person. Leeds and Bradford are typically £32 to £45; Harrogate, Wakefield and Halifax are priced on distance; York, Sheffield and Hull are longer regional runs. The drop-off charge and any tolls are included.
Does Leeds Bradford have more than one terminal?
No — a single terminal, one arrivals hall, one set of departures. That makes meeting simple: your driver comes inside with a name board and there is nowhere else to stand. The terminal is compact and has been progressively improved, and most passengers are out of the building quickly.
Is Leeds Bradford or Manchester the better airport?
It depends entirely on the flight. LBA is close to home if you are in Yorkshire, small and quick to move through, and covers short-haul Europe and the sun routes well. Manchester is a much bigger airport with a real long-haul network, and it is an hour or more away across the Pennines. If your route flies from Leeds Bradford, fly from Leeds Bradford. If you need long-haul, Manchester is the airport and we run that too.
Is the Leeds Bradford drop-off charge included?
Yes. Leeds Bradford charges vehicles that use the terminal drop-off zone, and that fee is inside your quoted fare, as is the short-stay parking your driver uses to meet you and any tolls on the route. LBA is far from any clean-air charging zone, so there is no charge of that kind at the airport end. Nothing is added on the day.
How early should I arrive at Leeds Bradford Airport?
Two hours before short-haul and three before long-haul is the working rule, and in winter we lean towards the generous end. LBA's schedule sends several departures out on the same hour and the security queue builds when that wave arrives. On a frosty or foggy morning we would rather set off early than arrive at a gate that has already closed.
Where does the driver meet me at Leeds Bradford arrivals?
One terminal, one arrivals hall. Your driver parks in the short stay and comes inside with a name board. The meeting point is confirmed by text before you land and the parking cost is included in your fixed fare. Because the building is compact there is no ambiguity about where to stand.
Do you cover Harrogate, York and the whole of Yorkshire?
Yes. Leeds Bradford serves a huge Yorkshire catchment — Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, Wakefield, Halifax, Huddersfield, York, Skipton, Ilkley, the Dales and beyond. None of it has a rail link to the terminal, and much of it is rural. Those runs are the core of our LBA work, all fixed-fare and door-to-door.
How long do you wait if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight number from takeoff, so a delay moves the pickup automatically at no cost. After landing you get 60 minutes of free waiting time. It matters more at LBA than at most airports, because weather delays here are common and can be long — and a driver who is still standing in arrivals with your name on a board when you finally get down is worth the fare on its own.
Do you provide child seats for Leeds Bradford transfers?
Yes, free of charge. Tell us the number and ages of your children when you book and the right infant seat, child seat or booster is fitted before your driver sets off. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before pickup.
