Isle of Wight Festival: the ferry is the whole problem
This is the only festival on our list you cannot drive to. A crossing sits in the middle of the journey, sailings sell out weeks ahead during festival week, and missing one does not cost you twenty minutes, it costs you hours.
Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington all run crossings, and they go to different places on the island with different journey times at the other end. Which one you book determines where we take you.
Choose the crossing before you book anything else
Your ferry determines your mainland port, which determines your departure time from Kent. Get these in the wrong order and you will be rebooking something.
To Fishbourne and Ryde
The busiest route and generally the most convenient for Newport. Our most common port run for this festival.
To East Cowes and West Cowes
Slightly further from Kent by road, and lands closer to the north of the island.
To Yarmouth
The longest road journey from Kent and the westernmost landing. Less common but occasionally the only sailing left.
It changes everything
A foot passenger crossing needs only a drop at the terminal. Taking a vehicle across is a different arrangement entirely and needs discussing.
Kent to the mainland ports
All three ports are on the south coast, reached from Kent via the M25 and M3 or the A27. Allow properly: a missed sailing during festival week may not be replaceable the same day.

Kit, and the fact you carry it onto a boat
Foot passengers carry everything themselves across a terminal, onto a ferry and off again at the other end. It is the single best argument for packing lighter than you would for a mainland festival.

Getting the sequence right
Ferry, then transport, then everything else
Book the crossing first. Sailings during festival week sell out well in advance, and the one you get determines which mainland port you need, which determines what time you leave Kent. Booking the road transport before the ferry means guessing, and guessing wrong here is expensive.
Build in a buffer that feels excessive
We aim to reach the terminal with a comfortable margin, because a missed sailing in festival week may not be replaceable the same day. That means leaving Kent earlier than a satnav suggests, and it is not us being cautious for its own sake.
The return sailing needs the same care
Coming back, the constraint is the same in reverse: your sailing arrives at a fixed time and we collect from the terminal. Give us the return crossing details when you book and we will be there, including if it is delayed.
Foot passenger or vehicle
Most of our customers cross as foot passengers, which means we simply take you to the terminal and collect you from it. If you are taking a vehicle across, that is a different arrangement and worth discussing before you book anything.

All of it comes back to the crossing.
Do you take us to the island itself?
We take you to the mainland ferry terminal and collect you from it on the way back. The crossing and the island leg are separate arrangements, and most of our customers cross as foot passengers.
Which port should we use?
Whichever your ferry booking specifies. Portsmouth is the most common for Newport, Southampton lands nearer the north of the island, and Lymington is the furthest from Kent. Book the sailing first, then tell us the port.
How long does it take from Kent to Portsmouth?
Between two and three hours depending on where you start and the traffic. We build a comfortable buffer because a missed sailing during festival week may not be replaceable that day.
What if our ferry is delayed on the way back?
Tell us and we will adjust the collection. Sailings run late and we would rather wait than have you arrive at an empty terminal.
Should we book the ferry or the transport first?
The ferry, always. Sailings sell out during festival week and the one you get determines your port and therefore your departure time from Kent.
How much luggage can we bring?
Pack for carrying it. As foot passengers you will move everything across a terminal, onto a boat and off at the other end. Soft bags rather than wheeled cases, and agree who carries the shared kit.
Can you take a large group?
Yes, up to forty-nine seats. Larger groups often split across sailings, so tell us if that is the case and we will time the runs accordingly.
Is the fare fixed?
Yes, agreed at booking on the port, the timings and the vehicle. A delayed sailing on the return does not change it.
