Which Heathrow terminal your US flight lands at

Every nonstop flight from the United States arrives at Terminal 2, 3 or 5. Your airline decides, and because the flight number is on your booking, your driver goes straight to the right one.

AirlineFrom the US (main routes)Heathrow terminal
British AirwaysNew York JFK and Newark, Boston, Chicago, Washington Dulles, Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles and moreTerminal 5 (a few flights use T3)

JetBlueNew York JFK (twice daily) and BostonTerminal 2
Alaska AirlinesSeattle (daily since May 2026)Terminal 3

Most overnight flights from the East Coast touch down between about 06:30 and 10:00. Daytime departures from New York, Newark and Boston land in the evening, and Alaska's Seattle flight arrives mid-afternoon. We follow the actual landing time, so a tailwind that gets you in early, or a weather hold that makes you late, changes nothing on your booking.

Before you land: ETA, passport control and eGates

  • You need a UK ETA. US citizens visiting the UK need an Electronic Travel Authorisation linked to their passport, and since 25 February 2026 airlines refuse boarding without one.
  • £20, valid for two years. The fee rose to £20 on 8 April 2026. An ETA covers visits of up to six months at a time for two years, or until your passport expires. Apply on the official UK ETA app or at GOV.UK; most decisions arrive within minutes, but allow three working days. Every traveller needs their own, including babies.
  • eGates from age 8. US passport holders aged 8 and over can use the Heathrow eGates (8 to 17-year-olds go through with an adult), which is usually quicker than the staffed desks.
  • Connecting only? If you change planes at Heathrow without going through UK passport control, you don't currently need an ETA.

Allow for the walk and the queue, not just the flight. British Airways estimates about 40 minutes from the aircraft to the Terminal 5 arrivals hall, and a long eGate queue or a slow bag can add more. Your 60 minutes of free waiting start at touchdown, and at Heathrow our arrivals promise applies: your driver is in the arrivals hall within 60 minutes of touchdown, or the ride is free.

How your S-Class meet and greet works

  1. Book with your flight number. We track the flight from departure, so an early or late landing moves the pickup automatically at no cost.
  2. The evening before, a WhatsApp message gives you your driver's name and TfL badge number. The car model and number plate follow before pickup.
  3. After customs, your driver is waiting inside the arrivals hall, in front of the exit doors, holding a board with your name. Never at the taxi rank, never in a car park.
  4. Your driver takes the cases to the car in the terminal short-stay car park, a couple of minutes' walk away. Parking and Heathrow's charges are already in your fare.
  5. Door to door into London: usually 45 to 85 minutes to Mayfair and the West End, and 60 to 100 minutes to the City, depending on the traffic.

Choosing your car: S-Class, E-Class or V-Class

After a red-eye, the car matters. Count your cases before you choose: transatlantic tickets often include one or two large checked bags each, and two people with four big cases will not fit comfortably in a saloon.

Mercedes S-Class

The flagship chauffeur car: generous rear legroom, a near-silent cabin and a suited driver. Up to 3 passengers and 2 large cases, which suits a couple or an executive heading straight to a meeting. From £245 to Mayfair.

Executive E-Class

Mercedes E-Class or BMW 5 Series for 1 to 3 passengers and 2 large cases. The business-travel standard, quiet and discreet, for a lot less than the S-Class. From £135 to Mayfair.

Mercedes V-Class

The nearest thing to an American SUV car service: 7 seats and room for 6 cases, ideal for families and groups with two checked bags each. From £165 to Mayfair.

Travelling with more luggage, or as a group of eight? An 8-passenger minibus takes 8 cases, and our vehicle size guide shows what fits where.

Guide fares per car, one way, for an off-peak weekday, checked against the Rushxo booking engine on 30 September 2026. They include the airport charge, parking, the Congestion Charge and the Central London surcharge where they apply. Weekday peaks, Fridays, weekend mornings and 17 December to 1 January cost more. Your exact fixed price for your address and time appears in the quote box before you pay; a return booked together is 5% off.

Every fare is per car, not per person, and includes Heathrow's charges, parking while your driver waits, and London's road charges. Most US flights land in the morning, and on Monday to Thursday journeys into London between 07:00 and 10:00 carry a peak supplement; your quote shows it before you pay, and the price then stays fixed whatever the traffic does.

Winter 2026–27: flying into London from the US

  • The clocks. UK clocks go back on Sunday 25 October 2026 and US clocks are due to change a week later, on Sunday 1 November. For that week London is 4 hours ahead of New York instead of 5, so double-check any meeting you set from home.
  • Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving is Thursday 26 November. If you're flying in for the long weekend or over Christmas, book early: S-Class and V-Class cars go first.
  • What's on. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland runs from Thursday 19 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027 (closed on Christmas Day), and Christmas at Kew opens on selected evenings from 13 November. The New Year's Eve fireworks on the Thames are ticket-only; 2026 tickets had not been released when we checked.
  • Seasonal pricing. Journeys from 17 to 23 December carry a Christmas-week supplement, and 24 to 26 December, 31 December and 1 January a holiday supplement. Both appear in the quote before you book.
  • Fog and storms. Winter weather can hold flights at either end. Because we track the actual landing time, your pickup simply moves with the flight.

Tips for American travellers in London

  • "Car service" in London means a pre-booked private hire car, licensed by Transport for London. Rushxo is the licensed operator (TfL licence 11588), not a booking agent, so the company you book with is the company whose driver turns up.
  • No tip is expected. The fare is all-inclusive. If your driver goes above and beyond, a small tip is appreciated but never assumed.
  • Pay in pounds, your way. Pay online by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or secure the car with a 30% deposit and settle the balance 6 hours before travel. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.
  • Save the numbers before you fly. If your phone plan doesn't include roaming, save your driver's number and our WhatsApp (+44 7466 237870) at home; Heathrow has free Wi-Fi.
  • Children. Tell us the ages when you book and we fit the right seats. Without a suitable seat, UK rules only allow children to travel in the rear of a licensed car (under-3s without a belt, 3 and over with an adult belt), so it's worth asking.
  • Train or car? Travelling alone with a carry-on and staying by Paddington? The Heathrow Express takes about 15 minutes. With family, luggage or a hotel away from the line, a car is door to door.

Frequently asked questions

How much is an S-Class from Heathrow to central London?
Our guide fare from Terminal 5 to Mayfair is £245 one way, per car and all-inclusive, for an off-peak weekday. An executive E-Class is £135 and a V-Class £165. Your exact fixed price appears in the quote box before you pay.
Where will my driver meet me at Heathrow?
Inside the arrivals hall of your terminal, in front of the doors you come through after customs, holding a name board: Terminal 5 for British Airways, Terminal 3 for American, Virgin Atlantic, Delta and Alaska, and Terminal 2 for United and JetBlue.
What happens if my flight from the US is delayed?
We track it from take-off and time the pickup to the actual landing, at no extra cost. You then have 60 minutes of free waiting from touchdown, and at Heathrow your driver is in the arrivals hall within 60 minutes of touchdown or the ride is free.
Do US citizens need an ETA to visit London?
Yes. You need a UK ETA before you fly. It costs £20, lasts two years or until your passport expires, and you apply on the UK ETA app or at GOV.UK. Airlines check it before boarding.
Should I tip my driver?
No tip is expected. Your fixed fare already covers the driver, parking and all airport and road charges.
Can I pay in US dollars?
Fares are charged in pounds sterling. You can pay online by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or secure the car with a 30% deposit and pay the balance 6 hours before travel.
Can you take us back to Heathrow for the flight home?
Yes. Book both journeys together and the return is 5% off. See our London to Heathrow car service for US flights.
