east midlands airport transfer fixed-price taxi booking with Rushxo

East Midlands Airport belongs to no city. It sits at Castle Donington, in open country between Nottingham, Derby and Leicester, roughly equidistant from all three — and with no railway station of its own. That is not a criticism; it is the reason the airport exists. It is also the reason a fixed-fare car from your door to the terminal door is the direct option, not the luxury one.

Most airports are named after the city they serve. East Midlands is named after a region, because it could not honestly claim any one city — and that tells you everything you need to know about getting there. There is no Nottingham airport line. There is no Derby shuttle. There is no station in the terminal. There is a single, compact passenger building at Castle Donington, sitting in a field roughly equidistant from three cities that all use it and none of which own it.

Which makes the transfer decision simple, if not free: you drive and park, you take a bus, or you book a car. RushXO runs EMA on one fixed taxi fare for the vehicle, not per person, agreed before you travel, with the drop-off charge, the short-stay parking your driver uses to meet you and any tolls already inside it. The geography

Three Cities, No Rail Link, One Airport

EMA was built to serve all three and reach none of them by train. Here is the honest distance from each.

~13miles

Nottingham

The biggest of the three and the one most people assume the airport belongs to. It does not. There is no rail line from Nottingham to the terminal — only road.

By train: not possible without a bus or taxi at the end
~13miles

Derby

Almost exactly the same distance, in the opposite direction. Derby has as good a claim to EMA as Nottingham does, which is to say a road one.

By train: not possible without a bus or taxi at the end
~20miles

Leicester

A little further out, and the third city in the airport's name. Same story: the M1 or the A6, and no train that reaches the terminal.

By train: not possible without a bus or taxi at the end

What about East Midlands Parkway?

It is a real station and its name is genuinely misleading. East Midlands Parkway is not at the airport. It is several miles away, and from it you still need a bus or a taxi to finish the journey — which is two legs, a wait, and your suitcases going up and down a platform.

If you are one person with a cabin bag and time to spare, it works. For anyone with hold luggage, a family, a group, or a flight at an hour the buses do not cover, it is the long way round to the same place. A booked car does it in one.

Indicative saloon fares to and from EMA, fixed at booking. The price is for the vehicle, not per person, and includes the drop-off charge and any tolls.

Indicative saloon fares, both directions. Executive, MPV and 8–9 seat vehicles are priced above these. Journey times are typical off-peak; the M1 around Junctions 23 to 25 in peak runs considerably longer. Fares last reviewed June 2026.

How the Arrival Works

Compact terminal, simple arrival. Here is exactly what happens.

1

We watch the flight

Your flight number is loaded at booking and tracked from departure. EMA's schedule is heavily charter and low-cost, and those flights slip — a delay simply moves your pickup. Nothing to tell us, nothing to pay.

2

Driver waits inside

Short-stay car park, then into the arrivals hall with your name on a board. One building, one hall — nowhere to get it wrong. The parking cost is ours.

3

60 free minutes

The clock starts at touchdown. It earns its keep at EMA on the late charter arrival — the one that lands at half midnight when there is no bus, no train and no way home except the car you booked.

4

No Parkway, no bus

You walk from arrivals to the car and that is the last leg. No several-mile hop to a station with a confusing name, no waiting for a connection with cases at midnight.

5

Charges handled

The airport drop-off fee and any toll on your route are inside the quote, along with the parking your driver used to come and find you. Nothing to settle at a barrier.

6

Fixed fare, paid your way

Pay online at booking or by card in the car. The number does not move — not for the M1, not for a three-hour delay, not for an 03:30 pickup.

Who books us

Who We Run to East Midlands

EMA's passenger side is overwhelmingly holidays. That shapes who we carry and what they are carrying.

🏖 The summer charter run

Two weeks in Turkey, Spain or Greece, and a boot full of suitcases to match. This is EMA's bread and butter and ours. One MPV, one fixed fare, free child seats fitted before we set off.

Charter flightsReal luggageFree child seats

🌅 The 06:00 departure

Holiday flights leave early. Check-in at 04:00 means leaving Nottingham at 03:15, and there is no train, no useful bus and no station at the airport anyway. Our dispatch runs at the same fixed fare as a midday job.

24/7 dispatchNo night premiumDriver waiting

🕑 The midnight landing

Charter returns land late, and EMA at 00:40 is a compact terminal in a field with nothing running. A driver already inside with your name on a board is not a nice touch here. It is the plan.

🏭 All three cities

Nottingham, Derby, Leicester. None of them has a rail link to EMA and all of them use it. Twenty to forty-five minutes, fixed fare, door to door, and no argument about whose airport it is.

🏎 Donington Park & the venues

The circuit is next door, and Download and the race weekends put a lot of people on the same roads at the same time. A pre-booked fixed fare does not surge when a festival empties.

EMA is a charter airport and people pack like it. A family of four going away for a fortnight is not a saloon job, whatever the cheapest quote says — four large cases do not fit in a boot that holds two. Timing & roads

When to Leave for East Midlands Airport

Two hours before departure and it is usually enough, because the terminal is compact and moves quickly. We still plan on that basis, because EMA's schedule sends several holiday flights out on the same hour and the security queue builds sharply when that wave arrives. In July and August we add a further half hour rather than trusting the timetable.

The M1, Junctions 23 to 25

Everything to EMA arrives on the M1, and the stretch between Junction 23A (the airport turn) and Junction 25 is where the region's traffic concentrates. It is slow in the morning peak and on Friday afternoons, and there is no elegant alternative — the A6 and the A453 both feed the same roundabouts. Your driver watches it live and leaves earlier rather than driving harder.

The lorries

EMA is one of the country's biggest freight hubs, and the roads around it carry a great deal of HGV traffic to and from the distribution parks. It is not a problem, but it is a real feature of the approach and it is why the last two miles can take longer than the map suggests.

Donington weekends

Donington Park is next door. On a race weekend or during Download, the roads around Castle Donington and the M1 junction behave accordingly, and everyone tries to leave at once on the Sunday. If you are flying that weekend, tell us — we will build the time in rather than discovering it in a queue.

About RushXO East Midlands Transfers

One fixed taxi fare agreed at booking, a licensed and enhanced-DBS-checked driver whose name and vehicle you have before the day, and a clean recent-model car. EMA is an honest airport to serve: there is no rail link to argue about, no terminal confusion, and no pretence that public transport is a good option when it plainly is not. What matters here is sizing the vehicle properly for a charter holiday's worth of luggage, and being awake at three in the morning when the first wave of holiday flights checks in.

Child seats are free on request. Accessible and step-free vehicles can be arranged in advance subject to availability. Returns are set on the same fixed-fare basis with the inbound flight tracked automatically — which matters at an airport where the return leg is usually a charter that lands considerably later than the timetable promised.

About RushXO

RushXO Ltd is a Dartford-based private hire operator licensed by Transport for London, registered at Companies House under number 16464640 and with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZC112187. Every driver holds a current Private Hire Driver licence, which requires an enhanced DBS check, a medical and topographical testing. Our entire model rests on one promise: the fixed fare quoted at booking is the fare you pay, every time. Learn more at www.rushxo.com, or browse the full airport transfer hub.

Frequently asked

East Midlands Airport Taxi — Your Questions

Is there a train station at East Midlands Airport?
No. East Midlands Airport has no railway station. It sits at Castle Donington, in open country between Nottingham, Derby and Leicester, and belongs to none of them. East Midlands Parkway is the nearest station and it is still several miles away, requiring a bus or taxi to finish the journey. A booked car goes straight to the terminal door and skips that entirely.
Which city is East Midlands Airport actually near?
None of them, exactly, and that is the honest answer. It is roughly 12 to 15 miles from Nottingham, a similar distance from Derby, and around 20 miles from Leicester. It was built to serve all three and sits in a field between them. That geography is precisely why the car is the sensible option — there is no single city rail link because there is no single city.
How much is a taxi to East Midlands Airport?
Fares start from £30 in a saloon and are quoted as one fixed price for the whole vehicle, not per person. Nottingham, Derby and Loughborough are typically £34 to £48; Leicester and Burton are priced on distance; Sheffield, Birmingham and Lincoln are longer regional runs. The drop-off charge and any tolls are included.
Does East Midlands Airport have more than one terminal?
No — a single passenger terminal, one arrivals hall, one set of departures. It is compact and moves people through quickly, which is one of its genuine strengths. Your driver comes inside with a name board and there is no ambiguity about where to stand.
Why is East Midlands Airport so busy with cargo?
Because it is one of the UK's biggest freight hubs. Major parcel and postal operators run overnight networks through EMA, and the airport is busiest with cargo when the passenger terminal is asleep. It has no practical effect on your transfer, but it explains why the airport feels bigger than its passenger numbers suggest and why the roads around it carry more HGVs than you might expect.
Is the East Midlands drop-off charge included?
Yes. East Midlands charges vehicles that use the terminal drop-off zone, and that fee is inside your quoted fare, as is the short-stay parking your driver uses to meet you and any tolls on the route. EMA is far from any ULEZ or clean-air charging zone, so there is no charge of that kind at the airport end. Nothing is added on the day.
How early should I arrive at East Midlands Airport?
Two hours before departure is the standard advice and it is usually enough, because the terminal is compact and processes quickly. EMA's schedule is heavily weighted towards holiday charter and low-cost routes, which means departures cluster on the same hours and the security queue builds sharply when that wave arrives — particularly in the summer. We plan on the two-hour basis and add margin in July and August.
Where does the driver meet me at East Midlands arrivals?
One terminal, one arrivals hall. Your driver parks in the short stay and comes inside with a name board. Because the building is compact there is no ambiguity about where to stand and no long walk to the car. The parking cost is included in your fixed fare.
Do you cover Nottingham, Derby and Leicester?
All three, constantly — they are the airport's whole reason for existing. Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Loughborough, Long Eaton, Castle Donington, Burton, Ashby and the whole surrounding area feed into EMA, and none of them has a direct rail link to it. Every run is fixed-fare and door-to-door.
How long do you wait if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight number from takeoff, so a delay moves the pickup automatically at no cost. After landing you get 60 minutes of free waiting time. It matters at EMA because a late-night charter arrival lands when there is no useful public transport at all — a driver already inside with your name on a board is not a convenience, it is the only plan.
Do you provide child seats for East Midlands transfers?
Yes, free of charge. Tell us the number and ages of your children when you book and the right infant seat, child seat or booster is fitted before your driver sets off. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before pickup.

Ready to Book Your East Midlands Taxi?

No station at the airport, and Parkway is not it. A booked car goes straight to the terminal door — one fixed fare with the drop-off charge inside it, and a driver in arrivals at half midnight when nothing else is running.
