Family, Funeral and Airport Transfers Across the UK

Published 26 July 2026 · Last reviewed 26 July 2026

RushXO provides pre-booked private hire for the journeys families actually need — airport runs with everyone and everything, funerals and gatherings across several days and venues, church and event travel at hours when nothing else runs, and celebrations that need more than one car. Booked in advance, at a fixed fare where applicable, with the details confirmed before anyone sets off.

Most of what goes wrong with these journeys is practical rather than complicated: the vehicle is too small for the cases, the return leg was never booked, or the day involved three venues and got arranged as three separate problems. Tell us the whole shape of it and we'll quote it as one plan.

Flying with a lot of luggage? Start with how we size a vehicle — it's the thing most bookings get wrong. Arranging a funeral? This section is written for that, and you can call us instead of filling in anything.

Airports

Airport Transfers With the Whole Family and All the Luggage

Here is the booking that goes wrong more than any other: four people flying long-haul, six or seven large cases between them, and a saloon turns up because the form only asked how many passengers there were.

So we ask for both, and we size the vehicle to whichever number is the problem — which, on a long-haul run, is nearly always the luggage rather than the seats.

What to tell us

  • Passengers and cases, as two separate numbers. "Four of us" and "four of us with seven big suitcases" are different bookings and need different vehicles.
  • The big ones specifically. Large checked cases, not cabin bags. If something is oversized, overweight or an unusual shape — a barrel, a crate, sports equipment, a musical instrument — say so, because it changes the vehicle rather than just the boot.
  • Whether anyone is coming to see you off. If six people are travelling to the airport and four are flying, that's a bigger vehicle or a second one. It's a completely normal booking and it's much cheaper arranged in advance than discovered on the doorstep.
  • The flight number and terminal. Where flight monitoring is available, the transfer follows your actual landing time. Eligible airport bookings include complimentary waiting time of up to 60 minutes, subject to our booking terms.
  • The time you need to be there. Long-haul check-in opens and closes earlier than short-haul, and a heavy bag drop takes longer. Give us the check-in time rather than a pickup time and we'll work backwards.

How we size it

As a rough guide, a saloon takes a family's worth of people but only a couple of large cases; an estate adds one more; an MPV seats six but the boot shrinks as the seats fill; an 8-seater is usually the right answer for a group travelling long-haul together. Where the load is genuinely large, two vehicles frequently work out better than one plus a roof box's worth of hope.

We'd rather send the right vehicle than the cheapest one. If what you've described won't fit, we'll tell you at quote stage and price the alternative, rather than turning up and leaving someone's suitcase on the pavement.

Content team. Replace the capacity descriptions above with RushXO's real fleet figures, measured with actual large cases rather than manufacturer boot litres. This is the central promise of the page and it fails visibly and immediately if the numbers are optimistic. Add the figures as a small table once measured.

Check your airline's baggage allowance before you travel — it's the other half of the same problem, and it's worth knowing before you're at the desk. Terminal and baggage information is on the Heathrow and Gatwick sites. For terminal detail and timings, our dedicated pages are better than anything we'd repeat here: London airport transfers, Heathrow, Gatwick, and journey times from each London airport.

Tell us the people and the cases, and we'll tell you what fits.

Funerals

Funerals and Family Gatherings

Funeral transport is usually arranged fast, by someone who is dealing with a great deal else, and it is frequently bigger than a single afternoon. There may be a gathering beforehand, a service, a burial, and a repast afterwards — sometimes across more than one day, often at more than one venue, and often with relatives arriving from other countries in the same week.

You can send us all of it at once and let us work it out. One call, one plan, one contact.

What we cover

  • Airport collections for relatives flying in, across whichever days they arrive
  • Guest transport between venues — from a gathering to the service, from the service to the burial, from there to the repast
  • Family vehicles, including executive options where they're wanted
  • Multiple vehicles departing together, so a group arrives together rather than in a straggle over half an hour
  • Elderly and less mobile guests — tell us who, and we'll plan the vehicle and the drop-off point around them instead of around the schedule
  • Return journeys, including the late one after a repast, booked at the same time as everything else
  • Onward travel for anyone continuing to another city, or back to an airport at the end of the week

How to arrange it with the least effort

Call us on "020 8888 9988" or message WhatsApp rather than filling in a form. Give us the dates, the venues and roughly how many people, and we'll come back with a single quote and a schedule. You don't need to have worked out how many vehicles it takes — that's our job.

If you're working with a funeral director, they can deal with us directly and you don't need to be in the middle of it. Just tell us who they are.

Two practical things worth knowing: venues around a service or a burial often have limited parking and timed access, so we plan drop-off points against that rather than the address alone — and the leg most often forgotten is the one home after the repast, which is also the hardest to arrange on the night. Book it with the rest.

Content team. Confirm the real short-notice multi-vehicle position before publishing — how many vehicles at what notice, and whether there is a coordinator who can own a booking like this end to end. This section promises a level of handling that a standard booking queue can't deliver. If it can't be met, cut the promise rather than softening the words. Also confirm the cancellation position for multi-vehicle bookings arranged at short notice, since plans change more here than anywhere else on the site.

Celebrations

Weddings, Anniversaries and Family Celebrations

Large family celebrations tend to share a shape: guests arriving from several countries across a week, more than one venue, sometimes more than one day, and a lot of people who need to be in the same place at the same time.

The same approach applies — send the whole picture rather than the first journey. Dates, venues, rough guest numbers, which hotels people are in, and the arrival flights you already know about. We'll quote it as one plan, coordinate the departures so people arrive together, and flag anything that looks tight before you've committed to it.

  • Guest arrivals across the preceding days, coordinated rather than booked piecemeal
  • Hotel-to-venue transfers with several vehicles leaving together
  • Family and principals' vehicles, executive where the occasion calls for it
  • Second and third venues on the same day, with the gaps between them priced properly
  • Late returns, booked in advance rather than negotiated at the end of the night

See wedding transfers for the standard service and group and 8-seater transfers for the vehicle range.

Late and early

Church, Service and Convention Travel

Some regular journeys sit in the hours public transport doesn't cover. A service that finishes at eleven on a Sunday night, a midweek evening meeting in a part of town with thin bus links, a convention that runs across a weekend, or a vigil that ends at four or five in the morning — at which point there is no bus, no train, and on-demand pricing is at its worst.

Those are ordinary pre-booked journeys for us, and pre-booking is the whole point: the fare is agreed beforehand, the car is arranged rather than hoped for, and nobody is standing outside a building at five in the morning trying to get one.

  • Book the return with the outbound. Especially for anything finishing late — that's the leg that disappears first.
  • A regular journey can be booked as a block. If it's the same trip every week, tell us and we'll arrange them together rather than one at a time.
  • Give us the building and the entrance, not just the street. Large venues often have several, and on a busy day they're a long way apart.
  • Say if the finish time might move. Services and conventions run over. Tell us at booking and we'll explain what flexibility applies. [CONTENT TEAM: state the actual waiting and amendment policy here.]
  • Group vehicles where several people are heading the same way — usually cheaper split between you than separate cars.

Content team. Confirm genuine availability at 04:00–06:00, at what notice and in which areas, and scope this section to it. A page that promises a five o'clock pickup and can't supply one fails a passenger in the worst possible circumstances.

Events

Events, Conventions and Carnival

Large events share a logistical shape: everyone arrives in the same window, the roads around the venue are the busiest in the city that day, and the journey home happens late when demand peaks. Carnival is the extreme version — closures across a wide area for a whole weekend, drop-off points a long way from where you actually want to be, and on-demand pricing at its highest.

  • Book early — availability tightens well before the date, and returns go first
  • Check published road closures for the event and share anything relevant in your booking notes
  • Agree a meeting point away from the busiest frontage; it is almost always faster than being taken as close as possible
  • If a group is splitting up during the day, book the returns separately rather than assuming everyone leaves together
  • Conventions and multi-day programmes — airport arrivals for visiting speakers, hotel-to-venue transfers across the programme, quoted as one itinerary

See event transfers for larger bookings, and hotel transfers for the accommodation legs.

Our standard

What We Commit To

Most transport pages stop at "professional and respectful", which is easy to write and impossible to check. Here is the version you can actually hold us to.

  • We don't decline a booking because of where it's going. A pre-booked journey to any address we cover is a journey we do. Not a postcode we'd rather avoid, not an area a driver would prefer not to end up in, not a job that quietly gets cancelled twenty minutes before pickup. If that happens on a RushXO booking it's a failure by us, and it's dealt with under our driver terms.
  • The fare is the fare. Agreed at booking, where fixed pricing applies — not adjusted for the destination, the hour or the day.
  • Drivers don't comment on passengers. Not on appearance, not on name, not on where someone's going or where they're from. No personal questions to fill a silence, no politics, no religion — including if a passenger raises it first.
  • If we get it wrong, tell us. Report it with your booking reference by phone, WhatsApp or email — you can report on someone else's behalf. We'll look at the booking record, speak to the driver, and tell you what we've done. [CONTENT TEAM: insert the acknowledgement and outcome timescales once operations have agreed figures they can meet.]

None of that is a favour and none of it is remarkable. It's the baseline, and we publish it because a standard nobody can see isn't a standard.

Ops and legal sign-off, not content sign-off. The first bullet is the most valuable sentence on this page and the most exposed. It commits the business to accepting bookings to any covered address and to acting on drivers who don't. Confirm with whoever owns the driver contracts that it is enforceable, and with operations that it is true. If it isn't yet, make it true before publishing this — do not soften it into vagueness, because a vague version of this specific commitment is worse than no commitment at all.

Groups

Group and Multi-Generational Travel

Groups spanning three generations rarely travel light, rarely travel at the same pace, and rarely all arrive on the same flight.

  • Count the luggage, not just the people. Eight seats and eight large cases don't fit in the same vehicle — give us both numbers and we'll size it properly.
  • Say who needs the easiest access. If someone would struggle with a high step or a long walk from the drop-off, tell us at booking rather than at the kerb.
  • Coordinate split arrivals. Where a family lands across two or three flights, we'll advise whether one vehicle waiting or separate transfers works out better once we see the times.
  • Nominate one contact. A single number for driver updates saves five people ringing at once from a busy arrivals hall.
  • Book returns with the outbound, especially around holidays and event weekends when late availability disappears first.
  • Child seats: tell us the ages and how many when you book so we can confirm what can be arranged. [CONTENT TEAM: state the actual child seat policy.]

See group and 8-seater transfers, or UK-wide private hire for longer journeys between cities.

Accessibility

Accessibility and Travel Requirements

Requirements vary and so do vehicles, so the honest answer is that what we can arrange depends on your specific need, your location and your date. Tell us before booking rather than hoping on the day.

  • Step-free or easier access into and out of the vehicle
  • A folding wheelchair, walking frame or other mobility aid travelling with you
  • Extra time at pickup and drop-off, so nobody is rushed
  • Assistance with bags, or to the door
  • A carer, companion or family member travelling in the same vehicle
  • A specific drop-off point relative to a particular entrance
  • A preference about the driver, if you have one — ask and we'll tell you honestly whether it can be arranged for your journey, date and location [CONTENT TEAM: confirm whether driver-gender requests can be accommodated, and how reliably. Answer it either way.]

Content team — highest-risk section on the page. Publish no claim about wheelchair-accessible vehicles unless RushXO genuinely operates them and can say where and when. If they aren't offered, say so plainly and signpost a provider who does. An ambiguous claim that fails an elderly relative on the morning of a funeral is the worst version of this failure. Replace this box with an accurate statement either way.

Call "020 8888 9988" or message WhatsApp before booking and we'll tell you honestly what we can arrange. See also assisted and door-to-door travel.

Your information

Privacy and Discretion

  • We ask for what the journey needs. Addresses, times, passenger and luggage numbers, a contact number. Not the reason for the trip.
  • Your driver gets the operational minimum — the booking name, the addresses, the time and any notes you've added as instructions. Nothing else.
  • No categorising. Bookings aren't tagged or grouped by destination, area, community or anything else about the passenger, and nothing carries between bookings unless you ask us to save a preference.
  • Retention. Booking records are held for [X] as required for accounting and licensing, then deleted. Detail in our privacy policy.
  • Pickup points. If you'd rather be collected from somewhere other than the front door, put it in the notes. No reason needed.
Why pre-book

Why Pre-Booking Makes the Difference

  • The vehicle is sized before it arrives. Cases counted at quote stage rather than assessed on the doorstep.
  • Fixed pricing where applicable. Agreed at booking, no surge pricing, no hidden costs — including late at night and on event weekends, which is exactly when on-demand pricing spikes.
  • The whole plan in one place. Several days, several venues and several vehicles quoted together rather than assembled leg by leg.
  • Coordinated departures, so a group arrives together.
  • The return exists. Booked with the outbound, which is the only reliable way to have a car at midnight or five in the morning.
  • Flight monitoring where available, so an airport collection follows the actual landing time.
  • A contact number that reaches a person before, during and after the journey.

Insert here — indicative "from" fares and measured luggage capacities. Both blocked on operations rather than on writing, and both matter more on this page than on any other in the series: the capacity figures are the page's central promise, and a multi-vehicle funeral or airport booking is a significant sum where silence on price loses enquiries before they start. Journey times live in the shared module linked from the airports section — don't duplicate them here.

Journey types

Example Journeys

Examples of journey types — not fixed routes, scheduled services or dedicated RushXO routes. Everything is quoted individually against its own date, time and addresses.

  • Home → Heathrow or Gatwick, long-haul, with a full load of checked luggage
  • Home → airport with a send-off party larger than the travelling party
  • Airport → home for relatives arriving for a funeral or a celebration
  • Gathering → service → burial → repast, as one booked day across multiple vehicles
  • Hotel → venue and back, for guests staying nearby
  • Church or convention venue → home, late at night or early in the morning
  • Event venue → home, on a weekend with road closures
  • London → another UK city in one leg, with the luggage

Booking

How to Book

  1. Tell us whether it's one journey or a day

A single airport run and a funeral across two venues are quoted differently. If it's the second, say so first and send the whole shape rather than the first leg.

  2. Give us people and cases, separately

Both numbers, every time. Mention anything oversized, overweight or an unusual shape, and anyone travelling to the airport who isn't flying.

  3. Give us every address, with the building and entrance

Not just the street. For venues and large buildings it's the detail that decides whether the drop-off works on a busy day.

  4. Tell us the times, including any deadline

A check-in time, a service start, a time you need to be somewhere by. That's more useful than a pickup time — we'll work backwards from it.

  5. Add flight details where relevant

Flight number and terminal, so the transfer follows the actual arrival where flight monitoring is available.

  6. Book the return now, not later

Particularly for anything late at night or early in the morning. It's the leg that disappears first.

  7. Mention access and vehicle requirements

Mobility aids, child seats, extra time, a companion travelling with you, or anyone who needs the closest possible drop-off.

  8. Confirm the quote

One quote for the whole plan where it's a multi-vehicle booking. Where fixed pricing applies, the quoted fare is the fare you pay.

Content team: verify every step against the live booking flow; remove rather than reword anything the system doesn't support. Step 2 is the important one — the form currently has no luggage field at all, which makes the central promise of this page unbookable. See §17.

13 — Questions

FAQs

I've got four people and seven big suitcases. What do I book?

Tell us both numbers and let us size it. Seven large checked cases is beyond a saloon or an estate, so it's an 8-seater or two vehicles depending on the route and the date. We'll price the options at quote stage rather than turning up and discovering the problem on your doorstep.

Can extra people come to the airport who aren't flying?

Yes, and it's a completely normal booking — just tell us the total number travelling to the airport, not only the number flying. Six people going and four flying means a bigger vehicle or a second one, and it's far cheaper arranged in advance than sorted out on the day.

Can you carry oversized or unusual luggage?

Usually, but tell us what it is when you book. Barrels, crates, sports equipment, instruments and anything overweight change the vehicle rather than just the boot, and some things need two people to load. Describe it roughly — dimensions if you have them — and we'll confirm what we can take.

Can you arrange transport for a funeral?

Yes, including across several days and venues. Call us or message on WhatsApp rather than filling in a form — give us the dates, the venues and roughly how many people, and we'll come back with one quote and a schedule. You don't need to have worked out how many vehicles it takes. If you're working with a funeral director, they can deal with us directly.

How much notice do you need for a funeral booking?

As much as you have, and we'd rather hear from you early with an incomplete picture than late with a complete one. [CONTENT TEAM: replace with the actual short-notice multi-vehicle position — how many vehicles at what notice — and the cancellation terms for bookings arranged at short notice.]

Can I book a car for four or five in the morning?

These are pre-booked journeys like any other, with the fare agreed in advance rather than set by demand at the time. Book it with the outbound journey rather than on the night. [CONTENT TEAM: confirm genuine availability at those hours, at what notice and in which areas, and replace this answer with the accurate position.]

Will a driver refuse to take me to my area?

Not on a RushXO booking. A pre-booked journey to any address we cover is a journey we do — it isn't declined, and it isn't quietly cancelled shortly before pickup. If that happens, report it with your booking reference and we'll deal with it under our driver terms and tell you what we've done.

Does the fare change depending on where I'm going or what time it is?

No. Where fixed pricing applies, the fare is agreed when you book and that's what you pay — not adjusted for the destination, the hour or the day. Longer journeys cost more because they're longer, which is the only thing that should change a price.

Can several vehicles leave together?

Yes, and for a service, a wedding or a large gathering it's usually what you want — otherwise guests arrive over a span of half an hour. Tell us the pickup points and the time everyone needs to be there and we'll coordinate the departures.

Can I book the same journey every week?

Yes. If it's a regular trip — a weekly service, a standing commitment — tell us and we'll arrange them as a block rather than one at a time. It's less admin for you and it protects you against availability tightening.

Is RushXO a Black-owned company?

No. RushXO is an independent private hire company with no community ownership, endorsement or affiliation. We've set out on this page exactly what we do commit to, so you can judge it on that rather than on who owns it.

Can I book on behalf of someone else?

Yes. Give us the passenger's name and contact number as well as your own — the driver contacts them directly and you receive the confirmation. This is common for relatives arriving from overseas and for anyone arranging travel for elderly family members.

Can I travel with mobility equipment or with a companion?

Tell us your specific requirement before booking — step-free access, space for a mobility aid, extra time, a companion travelling with you — and we'll confirm honestly what we can arrange for your journey, date and location. [CONTENT TEAM: state plainly whether wheelchair-accessible vehicles are offered.]

How far in advance should I book?

For anything with more than one vehicle, as soon as the dates are fixed. For long-haul airport runs, as soon as you have the flight — that's also when you'll know the luggage. For late-night and early-morning journeys, at least the day before, and book the return at the same time. There's no cost to asking us to check a date.

Tell us the people, the cases and the whole day.

A long-haul airport run with everything and everyone, a funeral across two venues, a celebration with guests arriving all week, or a car at five in the morning. Send the details and we'll quote it as one plan — and tell you honestly if anything won't fit.
