What actually happens on 31 December
Central London closes large areas to traffic for the fireworks, from late afternoon. The Tube runs free but at capacity. And between 00:15 and 02:00, several hundred thousand people simultaneously want a car.
Ride-hail surge on New Year’s Eve is not 2x. It is routinely 3x to 5x, and even then cars are scarce. Black cabs are almost all pre-booked or already carrying.
Our fare is agreed when you book. It does not multiply because it is midnight on the thirty-first. Book in November and pay November’s price.
The road closures matter
Large parts of the Embankment, Westminster and the South Bank are closed to vehicles from the afternoon. We will agree a pickup point outside the closure zone before the night — a walk of ten minutes that saves you an hour of standing in a crowd with no signal.
Book by early December
- New Year’s Eve sells out. We are not being dramatic; the vehicles are finite.
- Groups: an 8-seater or 16-seater is dramatically cheaper per head than surging singles.
- Going out of London? Kent, Essex, Surrey and the Home Counties are our core routes and there is no night surcharge.
