How City of London gets to the airport: fares, routes and timings

The City of London – the Square Mile – is London's financial district and its own local authority, separate from the 32 boroughs. It runs from Temple and Fleet Street in the west past St Paul's, Bank and the Barbican to Liverpool Street, Aldgate and the Tower. Not to be confused with London City Airport, which is about eight miles east on the Royal Docks.

Every City postcode is central London in the booking engine, so fares include the Congestion Charge allowance and the £20 central surcharge. In return, the City is one of the best-placed starting points in London: London City Airport, St Pancras and Stratford are all close, and the Elizabeth line, Thameslink and the Stansted Express all leave from here.

Priced for a pickup at City of London, London EC2V 7HH, UK.

Standard fares, whole vehicle, one way; the reverse journey costs the same. Returns are 1.9× the single. The engine adds 20% for Friday journeys, Saturday and Sunday pickups before noon, Monday–Thursday trips into London 07:00–10:00 and out of London 16:00–19:00, and a seasonal supplement from 17 December to 1 January. Tariff 2026-09-21h-csz.

Why two City of London addresses can price differently

All EC1–EC4 addresses are inside the Congestion Charge zone and Rushxo's central surcharge zone. Fares from the City therefore include an £18 Congestion Charge allowance and a £20 central surcharge, and on a return the surcharge is charged on both legs. The allowance covers the charge whether or not your journey falls in charging hours, so there is nothing extra to pay on the day.
