How Islington gets to the airport: fares, routes and timings

Islington runs north from Clerkenwell and Angel through Upper Street, Highbury and Holloway to Archway and the edge of Highgate. It borders King's Cross, so the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras is minutes away, and the A1, A10 and City Road connect it quickly to the City, the A12 and the north.

The borough divides for pricing. Angel, Barnsbury, Pentonville and Clerkenwell carry N1 or EC1 postcodes, which the booking engine treats as central London; Highbury, Holloway and Archway (N5, N7, N19) are inner London and cost less.

Why two Islington addresses can price differently

N1 and EC1 addresses are inside Rushxo's central zone, so fares from Angel, Barnsbury and Clerkenwell include the Congestion Charge allowance and the £20 central surcharge. Highbury, Holloway, Tufnell Park and Archway (N5, N7, N19) do not, which usually saves £20–£40 on the same airport. Both are in the fare table.

Airport and station pickups back to Islington

Every route here costs the same in reverse, so the airport to Islington is the same price as Islington to the airport. Book with your flight or train number and the pickup follows the real arrival time; the driver meets you in arrivals with a name board, and there is no night surcharge for late landings.

Islington airport transfer questions

How much is a taxi from Islington to Heathrow?
From N5, N7, N19 it is £85 in a saloon; from N1 Angel & Barnsbury it is £107, because those postcodes are in the central surcharge zone. Heathrow back to Islington costs the same.
Which airport is cheapest from Islington by taxi?
In order of saloon fare: Heathrow £85, London City £85, Luton £92, Gatwick £94, Stansted £99. Prices include the airport drop-off charge.
How long does it take to get from Islington to Gatwick?
About 34.5 road miles, usually 70–95 min by through the City and over London Bridge, then the A23 and M23. The fare is fixed whatever the traffic.
Can the driver meet me off the Eurostar?
Yes. Give the train number and the driver follows its arrival, meets you on the St Pancras arrivals concourse and brings you to Islington for £75 in a saloon.
Is a return cheaper than two singles?
Yes – a return is 1.9 times the single. Islington to Heathrow and back in a saloon is £162.
Are there night or weekend surcharges?
No night surcharge. The engine adds 20% on Fridays, Saturday and Sunday mornings before noon, and weekday peaks (into London 07:00–10:00, out of London 16:00–19:00), plus a seasonal supplement from 17 December to 1 January. You see it before paying.
Will the driver wait if my flight is late?
Flights are tracked; the pickup moves with the real landing time at no extra cost.
Why is Angel dearer than Holloway?
Angel and Barnsbury are in the N1 district, inside the central surcharge zone; Holloway and Highbury (N7, N5) are not. Mileage is similar, so the zone explains the difference.
Is it worth a car to St Pancras from Islington?
With one small bag, the Tube is fine. With heavy luggage, children or a very early Eurostar, a fixed-fare car is quicker and simpler.
