Arsenal station on the Piccadilly line is a short walk from the ground and is routinely queue-managed after full houses. Holloway Road, also on the Piccadilly line, operates under crowd-control restrictions on match days and is commonly used as an exit-only or entry-restricted station depending on the fixture. Drayton Park does not run evening or weekend services, which removes an option exactly when you would want it. Finsbury Park and Highbury and Islington are the reliable alternatives, and both are a genuine walk.
For traffic, the practical effect is that the streets immediately around the ground become unusable for a period after the final whistle. Stewarding and temporary closures keep the pedestrian routes clear, which is the right decision for safety and the wrong place to be waiting for a car.
The four ways an unbooked exit goes wrong
Surge on a tight radius
Sixty thousand requests concentrated into a few streets is an unusually sharp demand spike. Multipliers here can be steep even though the crowd is smaller than at Wembley, because the area is so much smaller.
A pin inside the cordon
Dropping a pin outside the gate you left produces a car that cannot legally or physically get there. The trip stalls, then cancels, then you start again at a higher price.
Exit-only station confusion
Passengers who assume they can enter at the nearest station sometimes find they cannot, and end up walking to Finsbury Park anyway, twenty-five minutes later than if they had planned to.
European night timings
