How Brent gets to the airport: fares, routes and timings

Brent sits in north-west London between the North Circular, the A5 Edgware Road and the M1, which gives it unusually good access to both Heathrow and Luton. It is home to Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena, the Kilburn High Road, and neighbourhoods from Queens Park and Kensal Rise to Neasden, Harlesden and Kingsbury.

Every Brent postcode is inner London in the booking engine, so there is no central surcharge, and the borough's position on the North Circular keeps most airport runs out of central London.

Priced for a pickup at Wembley, Wembley HA9 0WS, UK.

Standard fares, whole vehicle, one way; the reverse journey costs the same. Returns are 1.9× the single. The engine adds 20% for Friday journeys, Saturday and Sunday pickups before noon, Monday–Thursday trips into London 07:00–10:00 and out of London 16:00–19:00, and a seasonal supplement from 17 December to 1 January. Why two Brent addresses can price differently

Brent postcodes count as inner London in the booking engine. That means no central surcharge on any fare here, and the Congestion Charge allowance only applies on the St Pancras run, where the station end is central, so the price is mileage plus the airport drop-off charge. A pickup a few streets inside a central postcode would cost more – these are priced from a Wembley HA9 address.

Brent to London's five airports – route guides

Five airports, five very different drives from Brent. What to expect on each:

Brent to Heathrow Airport

From most of Brent the car joins the North Circular at Neasden or Stonebridge, heads to Hanger Lane and takes the A40 west before dropping south to Heathrow. Terminal 5 has its own approach, so say which terminal when you book.

  • Road miles: 13
  • Usual time: 25–40 min
  • Usual route: North Circular to Hanger Lane, the A40 west and the A312 to the M4
  • Public transport alternative: Piccadilly line from Alperton or Sudbury Town, changing at Acton Town for Heathrow.

Brent to Gatwick Airport

Gatwick is reached by heading west to the M25 and anticlockwise round to the M23. At night the route through central London via the A3 or A23 can be shorter.

  • Road miles: 36.8
  • Usual time: 60–90 min
  • Usual route: North Circular and the M4 to the M25, then round to the M23
  • Public transport alternative: Overground or Bakerloo to Clapham Junction or Victoria, then Southern or the Gatwick Express.

Brent to Luton Airport

Luton is easy from Brent: the M1 starts at Staples Corner on the borough's edge. Kingsbury and Neasden are the quickest starting points.

  • Road miles: 29.2
  • Usual time: 35–50 min
  • Usual route: Staples Corner and the M1 north to junction 10
  • Public transport alternative: Thameslink from Cricklewood or West Hampstead Thameslink to Luton Airport Parkway.

Brent to Stansted Airport

Stansted means the full length of the North Circular east before joining the M11. Allow extra time on weekday evenings.

  • Road miles: 41.8
  • Usual time: 55–75 min
  • Usual route: North Circular east to the M11, then junction 8
  • Public transport alternative: Jubilee or Metropolitan line to central London, then Liverpool Street for the Stansted Express.

Brent to London City Airport

London City is on the other side of London. Early-morning flights mean clear roads; at peak times allow more time.

  • Road miles: 19.7
  • Usual time: 45–65 min
  • Usual route: A40 Westway and Marylebone Road through the City, then the A13
  • Public transport alternative: Jubilee line from Wembley Park or Kilburn to Canning Town, then the DLR.

Brent to England's five international stations

Five stations in England carry "International" in their name. St Pancras is the Eurostar terminal; Stratford, Ebbsfleet and Ashford sit on the HS1 high-speed line; Birmingham International serves Birmingham Airport and the NEC. Only St Pancras currently has Eurostar departures.

  • Road miles: 9.2
  • Usual time: 25–40 min
  • Usual route: A5 Edgware Road or the A40, then Marylebone and Euston Roads
  • By train instead: Metropolitan line from Wembley Park to King's Cross St Pancras.

Brent to Stratford International

Stratford International is reached along the North Circular and the A12 – useful for Westfield and the London Stadium.

  • Road miles: 15.6
  • Usual time: 40–55 min
  • Usual route: North Circular east, then the A12 to Stratford
  • By train instead: Jubilee line direct from Wembley Park, Neasden or Kilburn to Stratford.

Brent to Ebbsfleet International

Ebbsfleet is a long run: either through London and the Blackwall Tunnel to the A2, or round the M25 via Dartford.

  • Road miles: 35.8
  • Usual time: 60–80 min
  • Usual route: Through central London and the Blackwall Tunnel to the A2, or the M25 clockwise
  • By train instead: Metropolitan line to King's Cross St Pancras, then HS1 to Ebbsfleet.

Brent to Ashford International

Ashford is a motorway run round the M25 and down the M20 – a good alternative to the train with lots of luggage.

  • Road miles: 76
  • Usual time: 1 h 30 – 2 h
  • Usual route: M25 clockwise via the Dartford Crossing and the M20
  • By train instead: Metropolitan line to St Pancras, then Southeastern high-speed.
