Where Do Taxis Pick Up at Wembley Stadium?
Not on Olympic Way. On event days the streets closest to the stadium are the streets your driver cannot reach. Here is how pickup actually works, and why walking is faster.
The short answer
On a non-event day, a taxi can drop you and collect you close to the stadium concourse without difficulty. On an event day that changes completely. Transport for London and Brent Council put pedestrian management and rolling road closures in place around Wembley Stadium, and the area closest to the ground becomes a walking zone rather than a driving one.
So the honest answer to where taxis pick up at Wembley Stadium is: on the nearest road that is still open to traffic, agreed with your driver in advance. For Rushxo bookings that point is confirmed before the event rather than negotiated in a crowd afterwards, which is the entire difference between a five-minute wait and a ninety-minute one.
Why the obvious spots do not work
Olympic Way
The main pedestrian artery from Wembley Park station to the stadium. Closed to general traffic on event days and dense with people for an hour after the final whistle.
Engineers Way and South Way
Both sit inside the managed zone on big fixtures. Even where a vehicle can enter, it may not be able to leave until stewards release the flow.
Directly outside the turnstiles
Stewarding keeps these areas clear for crowd safety. A car stopping there will be moved on before you reach it.
Wembley Park station forecourt
Already handling crowd-control queues for the Underground. It is the worst possible place to try to meet a car.
How Rushxo sets your meeting point
You give us the venue and the finish time
Wembley Stadium is HA9 0WS and OVO Arena Wembley is HA9 0AA. We also want the billed finish time, because the closures lift in stages rather than all at once.
We pick a road outside the active cordon
Typically a side road or a stretch of a through-route north, east or south of the stadium that is still flowing while the pedestrian zone clears. Wembley has a lot of these; the crowd does not use them.
You get the meeting point in writing
Before the event, not during it. Screenshot it. If you are with a group, share it, because splitting up in a 90,000-person crowd is how pickups fail.
Driver details arrive before pickup
Name, vehicle, colour and registration. Share them with someone at home as a matter of routine.
You leave a few minutes early and walk
Three minutes before the last song, or as the fourth official raises the board. Walk against the crowd flow toward the meeting point.
If plans change, we move the point
Stewards occasionally shift closures on the night. Call or WhatsApp and we relocate the meeting point rather than leaving you guessing.
Arriving and leaving are two different problems
People assume that if a car dropped them near the ground, a car can collect them from the same place. On event days that is rarely true.
| Leg | Traffic direction | Closures | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arriving, 2-3 hrs before | Inbound and heavy | Partial | Drivers can usually get reasonably close; build in 30-45 min of buffer |
| Arriving, under 1 hr before | Very heavy | Extensive | Expect a drop further out and a walk in; leave earlier |
| Leaving, 0-20 min after | Pedestrian peak | Maximum | No workable vehicle access; this is when apps surge hardest |
| Leaving, 20-40 min after | Easing | Lifting in stages | The Rushxo window: cordon-edge pickup while crowds still queue |
| Leaving, 60+ min after | Normal | Mostly lifted | Access improves, but you have lost an hour of your evening |
The principle worth remembering
At Wembley, proximity and speed are opposites. The closer your pickup point is to the stadium, the longer you will wait for it. Every minute you spend walking away from the crowd buys you several minutes of driving time, because you reach a road where traffic is actually moving.
Rushxo is a TfL licensed private hire operator, licence number 11588, insured to £10 million with enhanced-DBS checked drivers. Every booking is pre-arranged, which is a legal requirement for private hire in London and also the reason a meeting point can be agreed before you ever leave home.
