Victorious: a festival with a town attached
Almost every large festival puts you in a field, miles from anything, dependent on whatever is inside the fence. Victorious takes place on Southsea Common with the seafront on one side and an actual town on the other, complete with pubs, chip shops, hotels and pavements.
Directly across the road. It sounds mundane until you have spent a weekend at a field festival paying eleven pounds for something in a paper tray. Here there is a proper high street a few minutes' walk from the arena.

A Victorious weekend
It works as a day trip, unusually for a festival of this size
Two hours each way from most of Kent means a single day at Victorious is genuinely practical, even with a late finish. That puts it in a very small category: most festivals of this scale are either camping or a long way away. If your group wants one big festival day a summer without a tent, this is a strong candidate.
Or stay, because Southsea has beds
There is no camping on the common, and there does not need to be, because Southsea is a seaside town with a very large supply of hotels and guest houses within walking distance of the arena. For a two or three day ticket that is a far more comfortable arrangement than driving back and forth, and August bank holiday rates book up early.
The seafront setting is genuinely different
Wind off the Solent, proper surfaces underfoot and the sea on one side of the site. It means less mud than a field festival in a wet year and considerably more wind in any year, so a layer for the evening earns its place even in August.
We know the road well
The run down to Portsmouth is one we make regularly for ferry port transfers, so the M3 and A3 hold no surprises. On the bank holiday weekend the southbound routes are busy, and we plan the departure around that rather than around the mileage.
