Southend's first departures leave around 06:00 and the last arrivals land late in the evening, when the train to Liverpool Street is hourly or has stopped. A pre-booked car with the fare fixed the night before covers both ends: no night supplement, a driver waiting in arrivals for the late landing, and a pickup time set from your flight for the early one.

Early and late fares

The same fixed fares apply at 04:00 as at 14:00. Weekend journeys carry the standard 10% shown in the quote.

The first flights

The early departures to the Spanish and Balearic holiday airports leave from about 06:00, and the first trains from Liverpool Street do not fit them. Book the car the evening before with the flight number and we set the pickup: about 04:00 from central London, 04:45 from Romford and 05:00 from Chelmsford, on empty roads. Southend asks passengers to arrive two hours before departure; at that hour the terminal is quiet and the walk from the forecourt to security is a minute.

The last arrivals

Late arrivals from the Mediterranean land between 22:00 and midnight, when the train is hourly and the last services to London have gone by around 23:30. A pre-booked driver tracks the flight, waits in arrivals with a name board and has the car in the short-stay a minute away; a delayed landing does not change the fare. The A127 and A13 are empty at that hour, so the run to the City takes under an hour. See Southend meet and greet for how the pickup works and 24 hour taxi London for the overnight service across all airports.

What time is the last train from Southend Airport to London?
The last Greater Anglia services to Liverpool Street leave around 23:30 and are hourly late in the evening; a pre-booked car covers arrivals after that.
Will the driver wait if my late flight is delayed?

Flying to Europe? EES questions answered

My flight home might land late because of EES queues. What happens to my transfer?

Give your flight number when you book, so the driver can follow the actual landing time rather than the scheduled one.

How early should I get to a European airport for my flight home?

ABTA advises arriving at least two hours before departure, because the EES exit check can add time at busy airports.

Do children have to register for EES?

Yes, every non-EU traveller gets a record, babies included. Children under 12 are photographed but not fingerprinted.

Do I need ETIAS as well?

Not yet. ETIAS, the EU's separate online travel authorisation, has not launched, so there is nothing to apply for. The EU will announce a start date months in advance; until then, avoid websites that charge for it.

EES is the EU's digital border check for non-EU travellers, fully in use since April 2026. It is not a visa. Checked September 2026; rules can change, so see the EU Travel to Europe site before you travel.
