Newham to the airports and Eurostar, fixed and fully priced

Newham is the only London borough with an airport and an international station inside its boundary: London City Airport sits on the Royal Docks and Stratford International is on the edge of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Around them are Stratford, West Ham, Plaistow, Forest Gate, Manor Park, East Ham, Canning Town, Custom House and Beckton.

The A12, A13 and A406 North Circular all cross the borough, and the M11 starts just to the north, so Stansted is quick as well. Heathrow and Gatwick are the long runs. All Newham postcodes are inner London in the booking engine.

What changes the fare in Newham

Newham postcodes count as inner London in the booking engine. That means no central surcharge on any fare here, and the Congestion Charge allowance only applies on the St Pancras run, where the station end is central, so the price is mileage plus the airport drop-off charge. A pickup a few streets inside a central postcode would cost more – these are priced from a Stratford E15 address.

From Newham, the order of the airports by drive time is not always what the map suggests. Route by route:

  • Road miles: 28.7
  • Usual time: 60–85 min
  • Usual route: A13 or A12 into London and out along the A40 or M4, or the North Circular west
  • Public transport alternative: Elizabeth line from Stratford or Custom House towards Heathrow – some trains need a change at Paddington or Ealing Broadway.

Newham to Gatwick Airport

Gatwick is reached south under the river and round the M25, or across the Dartford Crossing from the A13.

  • Road miles: 35.4
  • Usual time: 60–80 min
  • Usual route: Blackwall or Silvertown tunnel and the A2 to the M25, then clockwise to the M23
  • Public transport alternative: Jubilee line from Stratford or West Ham to London Bridge, then Thameslink direct to Gatwick.

Newham to Luton Airport

Luton is a run round the North Circular and up the M1.

  • Road miles: 39

  • Usual route: A406 North Circular west to the M1
  • Public transport alternative: Elizabeth line to Farringdon, then Thameslink direct to Luton Airport Parkway.

  • Usual time: 40–55 min
  • Usual route: A12 or A406 to the M11
  • Public transport alternative: Train from Stratford to Tottenham Hale, then the Stansted Express.

  • Usual time: 8–15 min
  • Usual route: A13 or the A112 to Hartmann Road
  • Public transport alternative: DLR from Stratford International or Canning Town direct to London City Airport.
