London for muslim travellers: halal food, prayer and eid: a practical guide with 2026 prices
From the people who meet you in arrivals. Prices checked October 2026.
Prayer in London
London has over 400 mosques. London Central Mosque (Regent’s Park), East London Mosque (Whitechapel, with a women’s section and the Maryam Centre), Al Manaar (Notting Hill) and Baitul Futuh (Morden, one of Europe’s largest) welcome visitors. Multi-faith prayer rooms are landside and airside at all London airports; Harrods, Westfield and major hospitals have prayer rooms too. Prayer times are around 5:30/13:00/16:00/19:30/21:00 in autumn – check a local app.
Halal food, by area
Edgware Road (Lebanese, Egyptian, Iraqi), Whitechapel and Brick Lane (Bangladeshi and Pakistani grills), Green Street E7, Tooting, Southall and Ilford. Halal fine dining: Benares, Gymkhana (ask), Kebab Queen, Burger & Lobster’s halal branches, Nando’s (most central branches are halal – check the sign). Most supermarkets stock halal meat; look for HMC or HFA certification where it matters to you.
Eid, Ramadan and family logistics
Eid in the Square (Trafalgar Square) is the public celebration; during Ramadan the East London Mosque and Edgware Road restaurants run iftar from sunset. Alcohol-free hotels are rare, but most hotels will remove the minibar on request; apartments in Edgware Road and Bayswater are popular with families. Ladies’ cars and drivers who speak Arabic, Urdu, Bengali or Somali are available on request; we never charge extra for prayer stops on long journeys.
