Birmingham to Twickenham Stadium: Match-Day Cars and Minibuses
A Birmingham to Twickenham Stadium taxi takes you from the Midlands to south-west London without crossing the city centre: down the M40, round the M25 and in on the M4 or M3, a trip of 113 miles that takes about 2 hr 25 min on quiet roads. The stadium, now branded Allianz Stadium Twickenham, holds over 80,000 people, so on match days the last mile matters as much as the motorway. A car or minibus booked both ways covers the part trains handle worst, which is getting home.
The rail alternative, honestly
By train you would travel from New Street or Moor Street into London, cross to Waterloo, then take a South Western Railway service to Twickenham. After a big match the station runs a marshalled queue, and it can take a long while to get on a train back to Waterloo before crossing London again for the last services to Birmingham. For a pair travelling light to an early kick-off it can work. For a group, an evening kick-off or anyone bringing children, the car is far simpler.
Getting close to the ground
The stadium sits beside the A316 Chertsey Road, with its main address on Whitton Road, and on match days the streets around it are shut to general traffic or tightly controlled. Your driver will set you down as close as the closures allow, usually a short walk away, and confirm the spot by message so you can find it again later. The area fills hours before kick-off as supporters gather in the pubs of Twickenham, St Margarets and Richmond, so many groups ask to be dropped in one of those for lunch and make their own way to the stadium from there.
After the final whistle
Plan the pickup for about an hour after full-time. By then the crowd has started to thin, the queues at the station are shorter, and there has been time for a drink. Choose a meeting point outside the closed roads; the driver will message you when parked. On a Saturday evening the M25 and M40 are usually moving well, so you are back in Birmingham late in the evening rather than after midnight.
Picking the vehicle for your group
| Group | Vehicle | One way from New Street |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 people | Saloon | £233 |
| Family or small group with bags | MPV | £250 |
| Up to 8 people | 9-seater minibus | £283 |
| Larger club or company group | 16-seater minibus | Quote on request |
Plenty of Midlands groups set off from their own rugby club rather than the city centre. Any address can be the pickup, and a clubhouse car park is far easier for a minibus to load in than a terraced street with cars parked on both sides. If people are joining from different towns, agree one meeting point and give it as the pickup, so the driver is not working through a list of doorsteps on the morning of the match.

Six Nations weekends fall in February and March, with further internationals in the autumn. Kick-offs are mostly on weekend afternoons, so an outbound pickup before noon carries the 20% weekend-morning supplement, as does any Friday travel. Book both legs together for 5% off; the homeward trip is also on the Twickenham Stadium to Birmingham page. If your next big day out is a cup final or a stadium gig instead, the Birmingham to Wembley Stadium taxi page has the details, and our events transport page lists other venues.
