Wembley Stadium to Birmingham Taxi After a Final, Play-off or Concert
A taxi from Wembley Stadium to Birmingham is about 115 miles to New Street and takes around 2 hr 15 min on quiet roads, so even a late finish gets you home the same night. A saloon is £238 for the car rather than per seat, and a 9-seater for up to eight supporters is £287. Midlands clubs reach Wembley often enough, for cup finals, semi-finals and play-off finals, that this is a route plenty of fans plan in advance.
Leaving Wembley when 90,000 people do the same
After a full-house event, Wembley Park station runs a queuing system back along Olympic Way, and it can be a long time before you reach a Jubilee or Metropolitan line platform. Wembley Central and Wembley Stadium station are alternatives, but they are crowded too. Traffic is restricted in the streets immediately around the stadium, so no driver can wait at the foot of the steps. Choose a meeting point ten or fifteen minutes' walk away, such as a hotel or restaurant you can name exactly, and add it to your booking so the driver knows where to look.
The rail alternative means reaching Euston first, either on the Lioness line from Wembley Central or on the Metropolitan line to Euston Square, then catching an Avanti train to New Street. On an ordinary day that is a smooth trip. After a final, the platform queues at Wembley and the crowds on the Euston concourse can easily cost an hour, and you still need a lift from New Street at the other end.
M40 or M1?
Two motorways run towards Birmingham from this corner of north-west London, and both start close to the stadium. The M1 begins at Staples Corner, a short way east along the North Circular, and meets the M6 at Junction 19 near Rugby; the M6 then passes Coventry and the NEC on its way into the city. The M40 is reached along the A40 from Hanger Lane, or via the M25, and ends at the M42 south of Birmingham. For New Street, Edgbaston and the southern suburbs the M40 is usually the better line, while Villa Park, Erdington and Sutton Coldfield sit closer to the M6 at Spaghetti Junction. The driver checks for closures before setting off.
Fixed fares to New Street, Villa Park and the airport
Every fare is per vehicle and fixed when you book. Wembley events mostly fall on Saturdays and Sundays, and afternoon or evening pickups on those days carry no supplement. Friday concerts do attract the 20% Friday rate, and so would a weekday departure between 4pm and 7pm.
