Strand Palace Hotel airport transfers run from 372 Strand, WC2R 0JJ, to every London airport at a fixed fare per car. A saloon to Gatwick is £105 and to Luton £114; Heathrow and London City are in the table below. The Congestion Charge for driving in central London is included, and so is the airport's own drop-off or parking charge.

Being collected on the Strand

The Strand is one of central London's busiest through-roads, full of buses and with restrictions on where vehicles may stop, so the car cannot always wait right outside the entrance. Your driver will pull in as close as the rules allow and message you on arrival. If you are checking out with a lot of luggage, ask the concierge to have the bags by the door a few minutes before pickup, and add any preferred meeting point to your booking notes.

Gatwick and Luton: the two longest runs

To Gatwick

Gatwick is about 29 miles away. The usual route crosses the river and runs down the A23 through Brixton, Streatham and Croydon, picking up the M23 south of Coulsdon; the slow part is south London, not the motorway. Allow around 1 hr 5 min when the roads are clear, and a good deal more in the late-afternoon rush. Gatwick carries a lot of holiday traffic with large cases, so families often choose an MPV at £120. Tell us whether your flight uses the North or the South Terminal when you book. Details of this route are on our page for the Strand Palace to Gatwick taxi.

To Luton

Luton lies north of London off the M1, about 34 miles from the hotel. Drivers head up through Camden and along the A41 or Finchley Road to reach the M1, then leave at junction 10 for the airport. Most Luton flights are short-haul with easyJet, Wizz Air and Ryanair, so a saloon covers most couples and small families with cabin bags; see the Strand Palace to Luton Airport taxi page for that route in detail.

Heathrow and London City

Heathrow is a drive west along the Embankment and out on the A4 and M4, typically around 40 min to Terminal 5 when the roads are quiet. London City Airport is the nearest to the hotel at about 8 miles, reached through the City and out past Limehouse to the Royal Docks. It mainly serves domestic and European routes such as Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Dublin, so it suits guests travelling on business with hand luggage. For Heathrow from elsewhere in town, see our London to Heathrow taxi fares.

Train or car from this hotel?

The hotel is well placed for public transport. Charing Cross and Embankment are a short walk away, Covent Garden and Temple are close, and Thameslink trains from Blackfriars and City Thameslink run direct to Gatwick and to Luton Airport Parkway, where a shuttle runs up to the terminal. For a solo traveller with a backpack, that is hard to argue with. The car earns its fare when there are three or four of you, when the luggage is heavy, or when the flight leaves before the Tube opens.

Strand Palace transfer questions

How much is a taxi from the Strand Palace Hotel to Gatwick?
The saloon fare to Gatwick is £105, and an MPV is £120, fixed per car with the Congestion Charge and Gatwick's drop-off fee already in the price. Booking the return trip at the same time knocks 5% off both legs.
Which airport is closest to the Strand Palace Hotel?
London City, about 8 miles east, is the closest, followed by Heathrow, then Gatwick and Luton. Closest is not always quickest: a weekday afternoon through the City and Docklands can be slow, and the airport you need depends on your airline anyway.
Can I be collected from the hotel at 4am?
Yes. Pickups run around the clock, and an early car is often the most practical way to make a 06:00 departure from Gatwick or Luton when the Tube is closed. The Strand is quiet at that hour, so the driver can usually stop close to the door.
Can you bring me from the airport to the Strand Palace?
Yes. Give your flight number when booking; the driver tracks the flight, meets you after customs holding a sign with your name, and brings you to the hotel entrance. Fares from the airport are the same as those shown above.
