Joining your partner or family in the UK

After months of forms and waiting, the visa is through and you are moving to be with your family. Make the last part simple: a driver waiting at arrivals and a direct ride to your new home, however much luggage you bring.

Family visas in brief

A UK family visa lets you live in the UK with a partner, spouse, fiancé, child, parent or relative who is settled here. The rules depend on your relationship and you usually pay the immigration health surcharge. For current requirements, see GOV.UK: Family visas.

Before you fly

  • Check your eVisa and link the passport you will travel with (see eVisas on GOV.UK).
  • Travel on or after your visa start date.
  • Bring your sponsor’s UK address and phone number in your hand luggage.
  • If you are bringing a pet, it must meet UK rules and arrive by an approved route. See GOV.UK: bring a pet to Great Britain.

Should your partner drive to the airport?

They can, but airport parking, drop-off charges and a long wait if the flight is late add up. With a pre-booked car, your driver tracks the flight and meets you in arrivals. Your partner can book it for you and be waiting at home when you arrive.

Getting from the airport to your new address

Your first journey in the UK is usually your hardest one: a long flight, a new country and everything you own in two or three large cases. Trains and the Underground are cheap, but with heavy luggage, changes and stairs they are hard work, and a black-cab fare to outside London can run high. A pre-booked private car takes you from the arrivals hall straight to your front door.

  • Flight tracked: we watch your flight and your driver is there when you actually land, early or late, with no extra charge for delays.
  • 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, so passport control and baggage reclaim are not a race.
  • Meet & greet: your driver waits in arrivals holding a name board and helps with your bags.
  • Driver details before you travel, so you know who is meeting you.
  • Fixed price in pounds, agreed when you book. No meter and no surge pricing.
  • Room for luggage: choose an MPV (up to 6 passengers), a 9-seater (up to 8) or a 16-seat minibus for a family or group. Tell us how many cases you are bringing.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup, useful if your visa decision or start date moves.

We cover Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City and Southampton, and drive to addresses anywhere in England, Scotland and Wales, not just London.

Children arriving too?

Tell us the children’s ages when you book. Families should have enough seats and luggage space for everyone, so an MPV or 9-seater is usually best for a family of four or more with cases.

Your first weeks

  • Register with a GP and, for children, find a school place through your local council.
  • Apply for a National Insurance number if you plan to work.
  • Open a bank account and add yourself to household bills.

Visa rules change. Always check GOV.UK before you travel. Rushxo is a transport company, not an immigration adviser.

Questions

Can my partner book the car for me?

Yes. Anyone can book on your behalf. Add your flight number and phone number so the driver can reach you.

What if my flight is delayed?

We track your flight. Your driver comes for the actual landing time, with 60 minutes of free waiting after you land.

We have lots of luggage and two children. Which car?

An MPV (up to 6 passengers) or a 9-seater (up to 8) gives room for people and large cases. Tell us your bag count when you book.

Can I bring my dog or cat?

Pets must meet UK entry rules and arrive by an approved route. Check GOV.UK first, then tell us about the pet when you book so we can confirm.

Do you go outside London?

Yes. We drive from all London airports to addresses across England, Scotland and Wales.
