Get a fixed quoteWindsor is one of the easiest day trips from London and one of the first stops for visitors landing at Heathrow, which is only about 8 miles away. The town is compact, but getting there with children, luggage or a tight schedule is far easier by car than by train, and a private transfer drops you exactly where you need to be: the castle, a hotel, Legoland's entrance or a wedding venue in the countryside.
Windsor taxi fares
- Heathrow to Windsor – from £85 in a saloon, fixed price.
- Central London to Windsor – from £95 in a saloon, depending on your pickup address.
- Wait-and-return and day hire – the driver waits while you visit and brings you back. Quoted on request.
Every fare is agreed before travel. Estates, MPVs and people carriers are available for families and groups.
Route and journey times
From Heathrow the drive is short: around 20 to 30 minutes via the M25 and M4 or local roads. From central London the route follows the A4 and M4 west to Junction 6, then the A332 into Windsor. The 25-mile trip usually takes 50 to 75 minutes, longer in the weekday rush hour and on summer weekends when Windsor's town centre is busy.
Popular Windsor destinations
- Windsor Castle – the castle approach is pedestrianised, so drivers set down in the town centre a short walk from the visitor entrance. Allow extra time on days with the Changing of the Guard or state events.
- Legoland Windsor Resort – about 2 miles outside the town on the Winkfield Road. We drop at the resort entrance or the on-site hotels, and you can book a return pickup for closing time.
- Eton – Eton College and the high street are across the bridge from Windsor, with set-down on the Eton side.
- Ascot Racecourse – about 6 miles away. Royal Ascot week in June brings heavy traffic and road restrictions, so book early.
- Windsor Great Park and the Savill Garden – good for walks and gardens, with little public transport.
- Hotels and wedding venues – Windsor and the surrounding Berkshire countryside host many weddings; we can transfer guests between hotels, the ceremony and the reception.
Heathrow arrivals and Windsor stopovers
With Heathrow so close, many travellers stay in Windsor on their first or last night in the UK. Give us your flight number and terminal and your driver will meet you in arrivals. For departures, Windsor to Heathrow is quick, but allow time for the M25 and terminal drop-off traffic, and tell us your flight time so we can suggest a pickup time.
Families and groups
Legoland trips usually mean a full car: children, buggies, bags and sometimes car seats. List every child seat you need when you book, along with the children's ages, and we will send a suitable vehicle. For larger family groups or school parties, a people carrier keeps everyone together.
Windsor by taxi or train?
Trains run to Windsor & Eton Central (via Slough) and Windsor & Eton Riverside (from Waterloo), and are good value for one or two people travelling light. A taxi wins when you are coming from Heathrow, travelling with children or luggage, heading to Legoland or Ascot rather than the town centre, or want to combine Windsor with other stops in one day.
