A route between two experiments in city-making
Howard's second draft
After Letchworth proved the idea, Welwyn Garden City refined it — Louis de Soissons' neo-Georgian streets, generous greens, and the Parkway often called one of the world's great urban vistas. A town built on the belief that where you live should be beautiful.
The Shredded Wheat silos
The gleaming white cereal factory beside the line fed Britain's breakfast for decades and remains the town's most recognisable industrial landmark — a listed silhouette every AL7 resident navigates by.
Aldgate, the gate itself
E1 takes its name literally: the "old gate" in the Roman wall stood here until 1761, funnelling every eastbound traveller out of Londinium. Your drop-off sits on two thousand years of arrivals and departures.
Where the City meets the East End
Aldgate is London's sharpest join: insurance towers on one pavement, Petticoat Lane's Sunday stalls on the next, Whitechapel Gallery and the beigel shops a stroll beyond. Business drop or brunch drop, same postcode.
The train, given its due
WGC's direct Moorgate services make a fine ordinary commute — we'd never pretend otherwise. This page exists for every journey the timetable can't serve, listed honestly in the table below.
All of AL7 and its neighbours
Panshanger, Hall Grove, Peartree and Handside, plus Hatfield, Digswell and old Welwyn village next door — one operator, one pricing logic, the postcode adjusting the quote once in writing.
When the car beats the rails — and when it doesn't
| The situation | Take the train | Take Rushxo |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary 9am commute, no luggage | Direct Moorgate service does this well | — |
| Desk by 6am — dealing room, surgery list, site open | First trains arrive too late | 05:00 collection, City by six |
| Event kit, exhibition stands, cases | Barriers, gaps and stairs all disagree | Loaded once at the door, unloaded at the lobby |
| Late finish after the last departure | The timetable has gone home | We collect at any hour, same fare as noon |
| Strike day or engineering weekend | Replacement-bus roulette | The road doesn't strike |
| Three or four colleagues together | Four peak singles add up fast | One fixed vehicle fare, divided |
Saloon for one to four, Executive Mercedes/BMW for client-facing mornings, People Carrier, 8-Seater and 9-Seater for teams and kit — each at its own single written figure covering the A1(M), the North Circular's mood and the City's last mile alike.
