Cruise transfer · Western Docks · Berth 106
One pre-booked car from your SE1 doorstep to the gangway side of Berth 106. The fare is agreed while you're still calm — never decided by a meter, a surge app, or a five-ship Saturday.
01 · The road itself
Southwark sits on the right side of the river for a cruise escape. From Borough, Bankside, Bermondsey, Elephant & Castle or London Bridge, the car threads onto the A3 corridor within minutes — no Thames crossing, no bridge lottery — and from there it's one continuous motorway ribbon south.
Past Wandsworth and Wimbledon, the driver commits on the day between the M3 line via Winchester or the A3–M27 line via Guildford, whichever the live traffic favours. Both funnel into the M27 westbound, exit at Junction 3 onto the M271, and drop to the dockside A33.
02 · Know your terminal
Southampton runs five cruise terminals across two dock estates, and mixing them up is the most common self-inflicted disaster of embarkation day. Cruise lines are not glued to terminals: P&O, Princess and Cunard all use Mayflower regularly, none of them exclusively. The berth number printed on your e-ticket outranks the terminal name in your memory — send it to us at booking and the destination is locked correctly from the start.
Buses stop in the city centre; Southampton Central station is a mile and a half away on foot — a walk nobody attempts twice with cruise cases. A door-to-door car is the only method that finishes the job at the terminal entrance.
Pre-booked private vehicles drop and collect immediately outside the terminal building, steps from the porters' luggage point — no shuttle, no car-park trek.
Named after the 1620 sailing from this coastline, built in 1960, refitted repeatedly since. Inside: seating, toilets and a small café for the wait between check-in and boarding.
03 · The embarkation clock
Cruise timing is not "when does the ship sail" — it's "when do the gangways close," which happens earlier. Give us the ship's name and sailing time, and your pickup time comes back already engineered around all four of these:
All-aboard cut-off. Typically 60–90 minutes before the published sailing. Miss it and the ship departs without sentiment.
Boarding-window discipline. Terminals increasingly enforce assigned arrival windows — turn up far ahead of yours and you may be held outside the building. Precision beats earliness.
Porter hand-off. Mayflower's porters generally begin accepting cases mid-morning: a well-timed arrival lets you surrender the heavy bags at the kerb and walk in with only what the cabin needs on day one.
Road reality. A summer-Saturday departure shares the M3/M27 with every cruise passenger, New Forest tourist and coast-bound family in southern England. Our quotes are built on what those roads do at that hour, plus a held margin for the M27's concertina slowdowns between Junctions 5 and 3.
04 · The tariff board
Per car, always — split it across a group and the per-head cost beats rail, coach and ride-apps, with the luggage in a boot instead of on your knees.
| Vehicle | Seats | Best for | Fixed fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon | 4 | Couple, two large cases + hand luggage | £221 |
| Executive | 3 | Quiet cabin, client pickups, unhurried arrival | £254 |
| MPV | 6 | Formal-wear garment bags, buggies, a third case | £261 |
| 8-Seater | 7 | Whole family + full cruise luggage in one car | £329 |
| 9-Seater | 8 | Groups sailing together — cheaper than two cars | £344 |
Returns booked together are 1.8× the single — a built-in 10% round-trip saving. Child seats fitted free with ages at booking. No night surcharge at any hour; late inner-London pickups earn a discount instead.
05 · Cruise cases & the way home
Cruise cases are not airport cases. A fortnight at sea with formal nights means bigger luggage per person than any flight — plus garment bags, plus the duty-free coming home. Our sizing rule for this route:
Two passengers, two large cases and hand luggage — comfortable, no compromise.
Add garment bags, a buggy or a third case and the MPV earns its premium instantly. Four passengers cruising is almost never a saloon — the case maths decides before the humans do.
Six to eight sailing together: one large vehicle beats two small ones on price, and everybody's luggage travels with everybody's people.
Disembarkation is where transport usually falls apart. Several thousand passengers exit one building across a two-to-three-hour window, and every ride-app driver in Hampshire knows it — surge pricing on a Southampton morning is as predictable as the tide.
We track the vessel's actual arrival into the Solent, not the brochure time. Tell us if you're self-assist (carrying your own bags — first off, often minutes after customs clearance) or in a porter deck group (exiting later by group number), and the car positions accordingly, name displayed at the rank outside arrivals. Your fare home was fixed before your cruise even began — quoted in calm, weeks earlier, immune to a five-ship Saturday.
06 · Quick answers
Dock Gate 10 is the standard signed approach for Mayflower; Dock Gate 20 via Western Avenue is the congestion-day alternative. Your driver decides on live conditions — you don't need to.
Then your ship is at a different terminal. Forwarding us the berth number takes ten seconds and prevents the worst morning of your holiday: 106 = Mayflower, 102 = Horizon, 101 = City, 46 = Ocean, 38/39 = QEII.
Yes — private pre-booked vehicles drop and collect immediately outside the entrance, steps from the porters' luggage point.
Yes, and for early-boarding ships it's often the smartest structure. Ask on WhatsApp or by phone and we'll price both legs together.
The A3 corridor is the built-in alternative and overnight quotes already assume the possibility. The fare does not change either way — diversions are our risk, not a line on your bill.

07 · Lock the fare
The Southwark-to-Berth-106 leg is the one part of the voyage the cruise line doesn't control. Lock it down hardest: one car, one agreed number, one driver who knows which dock gate to use when half of London sails on the same tide.
