Charges checked against Luton’s official pages on 6 September 2026. Airports change these fees, usually in January or March — the sources are listed at the end so you can re-check before you travel.
Quick answer
Drop-off cost: £7 for up to 10 minutes in the Drop Off and Pick Up Zone in front of the terminal, then £1 per minute. Maximum stay 30 minutes.
How to pay: Cashless and barrier-free: cameras read your plate and you pay online only, by midnight the following day. Unpaid or overstayed: £95 charge, £55 if paid within 14 days.
Free option: Long Stay car park: free for up to 2 hours, then £7 for up to 3 hours. Free bus every 20 minutes, about 10 minutes to the terminal, 24 hours a day. Sat nav LU2 9NW.
Pick-up: Same zone, same rates (£7 for 10 minutes). Terminal Car Park 1, a 4-minute walk: £15 up to 30 minutes, £21.50 up to 60 minutes, £30.50 for 1–3 hours. Blue Badge holders get 30 minutes free there.
Booked transfer: With a Rushxo fixed fare the driver takes you to the terminal door and the charge is dealt with — nothing to pay at the airport.
Luton’s drop-off layout has changed several times since the October 2023 car-park fire, which is why so much advice online is out of date. In 2026 there is a single Drop Off and Pick Up Zone directly outside the terminal, a free Long Stay alternative with a bus, and Terminal Car Park 1 next to the building for pick-ups. This page gives the current Luton Airport drop-off charge, the online-only payment rule and its deadline, the penalty, the free option and what it costs to collect someone.
The Drop Off and Pick Up Zone sits in front of the terminal entrance and is open 24 hours a day to cars and minibuses. It is cashless and has no barrier: number-plate cameras time your visit and you pay afterwards. The tariff is:
| Time in the Drop Off Zone | Charge (2026) |
|---|---|
| Up to 10 minutes | £7 |
| Each additional minute | £1 per minute (e.g. 15 minutes = £12, 20 minutes = £17) |
| Maximum stay | 30 minutes |
| Over 30 minutes or unpaid | £95 enforcement charge, reduced to £55 if paid within 14 days |
Ten minutes is enough to unload and say goodbye at the kerb. It is not enough to walk into the terminal, so if you want to help someone to the check-in desks or the assistance point, park in Terminal Car Park 1 instead.
Luton is the strictest of the London airports on payment: it is online only. There is no phone line and no machine in the zone.
Go to the payment link on London Luton Airport’s official drop-off page, enter your registration and pay by card. Do it the same day — the deadline is midnight the following day.
The charge is metered by the minute after 10 minutes, so check the clock as you pull in. The cameras are the record; there is no ticket to dispute later.
The enforcement charge goes to the registered keeper, so hire companies will re-bill you with an admin fee if you miss the deadline. Pay it yourself online first.
If you do not pay by the deadline, or you stay longer than 30 minutes, a £95 enforcement charge is issued, reduced to £55 if paid within 14 days. That makes a forgotten £7 the most expensive lapse of any London airport after Gatwick and Stansted’s £100 notices.
Yes. The Long Stay car park is free for up to 2 hours for drop-offs and pick-ups, and then £7 for up to 3 hours. A free shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, taking about 10 minutes to the terminal (it leaves the terminal from Bus Bay B on the way back). The sat-nav postcode is LU2 9NW, there are no height restrictions, and Blue Badge spaces are near bus stop 7.
Budget 25–35 minutes from parking to the departures hall, allowing for the bus wait. Because so many Luton departures are early in the morning, the 24-hour bus makes this workable for early flights — but for a passenger with heavy luggage or a pushchair, or when the flight is close, £7 at the door is usually the better call.
The Mid Term car park is about a 10-minute walk from the terminal and can also be used for drop-offs at its normal tariff; it does not offer a free period.
You have three choices for collecting a passenger:
Luton arrivals are usually quick, but a late inbound aircraft turns a £7 pick-up into a £30 one in Terminal Car Park 1. A pre-booked Rushxo pick-up is flight-tracked and fixed-price, so delays cost you nothing, and meet and greet puts the driver inside arrivals with a name board.
| Option | Cost | Where you end up | Time limit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drop Off & Pick Up Zone | £7 up to 10 min; £1/min after | Terminal door | 30 min max (£95 beyond) | Quick kerbside drop-off with luggage |
| Long Stay (free) | Free up to 2 hrs; £7 for up to 3 hrs | Free bus every 20 min, about 10 min | 2 hrs free | Avoiding the fee when time allows |
| Terminal Car Park 1 | £15 up to 30 min; £21.50 to 60 min; £30.50 for 1–3 hrs | 4-minute walk via footbridge | Pay per band | Pick-ups, assisted drop-offs, Blue Badge (30 min free) |
| Rushxo fixed-fare transfer | Fare fixed when you book — the drop-off charge is handled by your driver, nothing to pay at the airport | Terminal door | No time pressure — driver waits for you on pick-ups (flight-tracked) | Door-to-door, early flights, luggage, groups |
Yes. Taxis, minicabs and private-hire cars use the same Drop Off and Pick Up Zone and pay the same £7, and many add it to the fare, sometimes without saying so until the end of the journey.
With Rushxo the fare quoted at booking is the fare you pay: your driver takes you to the terminal door and handles the charge. Yes. Taxis and private-hire vehicles pay the same £7 to use the zone and most pass it on. Rushxo fares are fixed at booking and the driver handles the charge, so there is nothing extra to pay.
