The fare board

Every SE postcode, priced before you ask

Read the last column. Between midnight and six the fare goes down, not up — that is the entire point.

Fares are per vehicle, not per person, and the journey is priced the same in either direction. Tolls, congestion charge, ULEZ and airport car parking are already inside the number; on departures, Gatwick’s own drop-off charge is the one extra, added at cost and shown on your quote. Pickups between 00:00 and 06:00 take £11.55 off. Peak periods — Friday 16:00–23:59 and Saturday to Sunday 10:00–23:59 — add 10%. The two never combine: if your pickup falls between midnight and 6am you get the discount and no uplift. Whichever applies is shown on screen before you pay, never afterwards. Travelling as four or fewer? A saloon on the same route starts at £130.

Capacities above are passengers, excluding the driver. Choose by luggage, not just by headcount: the 8-seater takes seven people with seven cases, while a party of eight, or seven people with oversized bags, needs the 9-seater. If you are unsure, send the numbers on WhatsApp and we will tell you which one actually fits.

Why the number is agreed, not calculated

Three things that move the price everywhere else

App platforms recalculate the fare at the moment you tap, using demand you cannot see. Rushxo prices the route from a published table and shows you the total before you commit.

01 · DEMAND

A full arrivals hall

Three widebodies land within twenty minutes and every app in the terminal multiplies. Your fare was set the day you booked, so nothing happens to it.

02 · THE CLOCK

Landing at 03:40

Everywhere else, midnight to six is when night rates, unsocial-hours uplifts and minimum fares bite hardest. Rushxo takes £11.55 off that window instead, and the weekend peak uplift never applies inside it. Roughly a quarter of the airport work we do falls inside it.

03 · A LATE FLIGHT

Ninety minutes in the air

We track the flight number and move the pickup to the new landing time ourselves. No rebooking, no waiting-time charge for the delay, no change to the fare.

  2. Clear the hallA text gives you the driver's name, the vehicle and its registration before you reach passport control.
  3. Meet at arrivalsThe driver waits inside with a name board and helps with the cases. Sixty minutes of free waiting from touchdown.

The route

Gatwick to South East London by minibus

Gatwick sits roughly 28 to 38 miles from the South East London postcodes, depending on whether you are heading for Crystal Palace or for Thamesmead. The M23 to the M25 and up through the Dartford corridor, or the A23 straight up through Croydon and Streatham, both work — the driver picks on the day based on what the traffic is doing. Journey time runs from about 55 minutes on a clear early morning to a little over 90 in a Friday evening peak. The fare does not change either way, because you agreed it at the point of booking.

Why an 8-seater rather than two cars

A group of six adults with six suitcases will not fit in a saloon and rarely fits comfortably in an estate. Splitting into two vehicles means two fares, two drivers and two arrival times, and at an airport it usually means one car waiting at the rank while the other is still circling. A single minibus — a Mercedes Vito, VW Transporter or equivalent — takes the whole party, the luggage and the pushchair in one movement. Size it by luggage as well as heads: the 8-seater carries seven passengers with a case each, and the 9-seater takes a full party of eight.

Night and early-morning arrivals

A significant share of Gatwick's South East London traffic moves between midnight and six in the morning: the late easyJet inbound, the 04:00 departure that needs a 02:30 pickup, the cruise connection. This is exactly the window where metered and app-based pricing is least predictable, and it is the window most operators charge extra for. Rushxo takes £11.55 off it instead, and never adds the weekend peak uplift on top. The driver is confirmed the day before rather than found at the last minute, which is the part that actually matters at half past two in the morning.

Travelling with children

Child seats and boosters are fitted free and must be requested when booking so the right stages are on board — infant carrier, forward-facing seat or booster cushion. Tell us the ages and we will bring what matches. This is not an extra and never appears on the quote.

Cruise, station and hotel connections

The same 8-seater covers Gatwick to the Southampton and Dover cruise terminals, to Greenwich and North Greenwich for the river and the arena, and to the Kings Cross, St Pancras, Euston and Victoria termini. Those journeys are priced on the same fixed basis — send the postcodes and we will quote them together as one booking.

Questions

Before you book

How much is an 8-seater minibus from Gatwick to South East London?

An 8-seater starts at £155 for the SE19, SE20, SE25, SE26 and SE27 postcodes and rises to £185 for SE2, SE18 and SE28. A 9-seater runs £161 to £192, and an MPV carrying up to six £143 to £169. All capacities are passengers, excluding the driver. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and the journey costs the same in either direction. Enter your postcode above for the exact figure.

Does the fare go up for a 3am pickup?

It goes down. Pickups between midnight and 6am have £11.55 deducted automatically — there is no night rate and no unsocial-hours uplift. Peak periods, meaning Friday 16:00–23:59 and Saturday to Sunday 10:00–23:59, do add 10%, but the two are never applied together: a 3am pickup on a Saturday still gets the discount and no uplift. Whichever applies is shown on screen before you pay rather than appearing on the final bill.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Give us the flight number when booking and we track it. If the aircraft lands late the pickup time moves automatically and the fare stays as quoted. Waiting is free for the first 60 minutes after touchdown, which covers immigration and baggage reclaim on almost every arrival.

Where does the driver meet me at Gatwick?

Inside the arrivals hall of your terminal, holding a name board. You will receive the driver's name, mobile number, vehicle and registration by text before you land, so you can call directly if you need to.

Which vehicle do I need for eight people?

The 9-seater. Our 8-seater is rated for seven passengers with a case each; a full party of eight takes the 9-seater, which is £6 to £7 more on this route. If you are carrying skis, golf clubs, a bike box or anything oversized, tell us the details when booking and we will confirm the right vehicle rather than discovering the problem at the kerb.

Are child seats available and do they cost extra?

They are free. Request them when booking and give us the children's ages so we bring the correct infant carriers, forward-facing seats or booster cushions.

What do I pay upfront, and can I cancel?

You pay nothing to get the quote. To hold the booking we take a 30% deposit and you settle the balance on the day. Cancel more than 24 hours before pickup and the deposit is refunded in full; inside 24 hours the deposit is retained and nothing further is charged.

How do I pay?

Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or bank transfer online, or card with the driver on the day. Payments are processed through Stripe and PayPal over an encrypted connection and card details are never stored on our servers.

Can I book the return leg at the same time?

Yes, and we would recommend it — the return is quoted at the same fixed rate and booking both together means one confirmation and one driver briefed on the whole trip.
